It's cold enough today that I'm getting that unresponsive issue. When I pulled it out of my pocket it was ok since it was warm against my leg but as I had it out it wasn't registering touches as much. I had to press the screen a little harder. Weird that they'll be able to fix it in a software update. I wonder what's causing the issue.

I don't understand why someone would come in here specifically to trash the thing the OT is about

Because it's the internet and some people like to stir the pot. Clearly a drive by post with not a ton of evidence to warrant their stance. I just ignore it. I love both Android and iOS. They both have so many cool features to offer. It's a great time to be alive!

Gotta say FaceID has been far better than I expected, and it's only Gen 1. Much better than the first iteration of TouchID.

Only complaint is that FaceID doesn't really work while the phone is on a table and slightly off angle (when you're eating food for example and have the phone to the left or right of your dinner plate).

Hopefully they can improve the FaceID viewing angles a bit in future revisions.
Bets on if FaceID 2 gets wide angles and basically gets your face from any comfortable reaching distance.

I use TouchID v1 on my iPad Air 2 and jesus is it slow.

Why can't you force press your way to the Bluetooth settings from control center.

Spoiled too bad by android.

You can force press settings to go to Bluetooth and wifi though.

This whole ios 11 control center needs a rework. Still better than 10 which was awful.

I can't wait for Gen 2 or 3, it's going to be incredible. All they need to do is shave off half a second and no one can complain about it again. Sounds so easy on paper but I bet that is going to be an incredible feat to attempt considering all the magic those cameras are doing, really cool tech at play, needs every millisecond it can get!

Today is cold in northeast and my phone is having that screen issue. Eye don't see how this is going to be fixed through a software update ...

Eye used eye because eye can't stand that dumb glitch

So how are y'all feeling about the different approaches from app developers for x optimization?

Some stretch the top color up. Some just pretend the notch isn't there like with YouTube when you play a video in vertical or discord.

I think both look fine.

Yeah, it's a camera app in the vein of the ones mentioned.
You can mess around with it for free though.

Weird I couldn't search for it in the App Store but found it through google

Edit: this is very cool. Shame it's an iPhone only app though. Actually doesn't work properly on iPad Pro 10.5 (icons are cut off at the bottom). Would much prefer to to tweaks on a larger screen

Discord isn't updated for X UI as far as I know - Apple doesn't allow hiding the Notch with black iirc. Youtube is, which is why they fill it in with white if you are browsing menus

I just like any use of it tbh. The shape of the screen is really neat design wise

It really does need a complete rethink. You can't even get to settings through control centre, yet you can open a calculator? While I find the calculator convenient, it is a mish mash of clashing ideas and weird customisations.

11.1.1 fixed the autocorrect bug yesterday.

I'm surprised they can fix the screen in software too, but it sounds like it's an issue with how the OS detects temperature changes. Baffling that they wouldn't have tested the phone in the cold. Like I imagined they have a huge testing center at Apple HQ with a freeze zone, tropical zone, etc. They need to use some of those billions and build a walk-in freezer at least.

I'm having the weirdest boner for the white silicone case, especially matched with the space gray. I might just add it to the saddle brown leather.

Ideally I'd love to get a folio too, but I'm not ready to drop that much for a case to use once in a while.

Little late to this, but to clarify, they removed the very reliable and easy to use fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone for Face ID? I dont think Id use face ID so I guess its back to pattern code to unlock?

It's got a very positive reception by owners in this thread so I don't see why you wouldn't use it. I wouldn't go back to Touch ID and I wish my iPad had Face ID

Face ID works 10x better than Touch ID for me; has failed to recognize me once in a week out of hundreds of attempts, whereas Touch ID would fail at least once or twice every day (usually right after a shower.)

Face ID really is like not even having a passcode.

Sure, iOS 11 has issues but they're very quick to fix these bugs and I like knowing the second they release their updates every single iOS device gets it.

On the "other side" you wait 6-7 months and then if it has issues it's never fixed. I've seen it countless times.

This is one of the reasons why I jumped to iOS.
Back in my android days, if you didn't own a device with stock Android you'd have to wait for the manufacturer or worse, your carrier to update the OS with all their custom crap.

Not sure if that still happens to this day but I'm so invested on the iOS ecosystem by now I don't see myself goin back again.

It still happens. It took about 6-7 months for the previous Samsung devices to get the latest version of Android.

Google used to only do maybe 2 years of updates and now this year they say 3.

Got the Caudabe transparent case today. Feels nice and is slim. You can't even tell you've got a case on tbh!

I don't think it'll protect the phone much from drops but it should be good cover for scratches. I'm pleased with the purchase although I'll mostly use the case outside of the home.

Man, pulling from the bottom left corner to bring up the app switcher is a MASSIVE game changer, screw this sliding L nonsense.

Bottom left? You just lift from anywhere.
Quick pull up, stop and let go.

It says something with the new screen and the space age FaceID tech that the most impressively implemented new feature for me is the gestures. Removing the home button could have went very wrong but what's replaced it is better than what was there before.

Do you mind if I borrow this thread for a moment? But when can I expect to see the new iPads announced?
I am looking to upgrade my 9.7" 128GB one with a 10.5" 512GB variant.

Talking about iPads. Rumors are next year they'll have FaceID and no home button. I wonder how the home button gesture would work along side the iPad dock gesture

I had an apple silicone case for my 6 and it attracted lint and other particles like crazy. Switched to the leather case and it was a huge upgrade. Went with leather again for the X.

Have they improved the Silicone over the years or is it still the same? That white one looks nice, but I bet it gets grimey real quick.

so what ? its still cant keep enough to current life situtations.
Give me a break if a 1000$ phone cant give me 6 hour battery life in real life usage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H9pAn4Hl50&feature=youtu.be

Also iOS desperate needs of fast animations like Android.
Where did Apple hurt you?

No seriously?

And lol, 6 hours for real life situations (which the X is only 4 mins short of if we're using this bizarre requirement?) Who uses their phone for for 6 hours straight without stopping like in this video. It's not like your phone dies while you're out as soon as you hit 6 hours, this test is simply using it non-stop until it dies. Between activity and standby, your phone should surpass 10+ hours without issue in a normal "real life" situation.

But it's not like I expect any discussion from your drive-by posts, since you're most likely unequipped to provide any. Hey but prove me wrong!

I'm about to swap my Cosmos Blue for a White Silicone myself

I wish there was an option or accessibility feature that just unilaterally turned all UI sound into a haptic sensation. Like the little confirmations in Twitterrific, etc.

It's so badass every time you turn the flashlight on and it gives you that 3D Touch click. I think the more garish apps with UI sounds would be rad with the same thing.

I mean, who turns on sounds. C'Mon!

^ive always felt the silicone cases were more elegant than the leather ones.

I had YouTube running on my 10.5 for six straight hours and it died. But obviously that's to be expected with that use case

I mean you can 3D Touch on the Settings app icon and there's a link to the Bluetooth settings right there. Control Center in 11 has a lot of issues, not the least of which is that the design looks like programmer art, but it not having a deep link to BT settings seems a bit overblown.
