Stuff like Brasso works because it's conductive and does do a good job of removing gunk on the connectors. The problem is that it's high on solids and leaves a residue which can eventually interfere with the connection and it's also an abrasive, so long term use may deteriorate the plating on the pins. If you ever do use Brasso, you should still use isopropyl alcohol to remove the residue afterward.

There you go, you've seen someone say not to use alcohol now.

The metal polish debate will last forever because you have people on one side saying not to do it, and people on the other side doing it with success. People against it are literally arguing against results. That isn't to say the people against it are wrong, but it's a hard uphill battle to convince people to stop doing the thing that is working for them.
Well, that warning isn't necessarily on the Super NES games. Although, if we're going by label logic, you can't safely clean a SNES game without using the OFFICIAL Super Nintendo Cleaning kit. /shrugs

Yeah, I wasn't being serious with that as a real argument against it or anything. Wasn't the stuff in the official cleaning kits just alcohol, despite that warning?

When those brasso tips first became popular, I used them on my favorite games..... Guh. Later I learned how it wasn't good and... Well there's no use crying over spilt milk I guess. Beh.

Oh, I get what you're saying. I was kinda taking a jab at the warning sticker, etc., and Nintendo recommended using the alcohol with the cleaning kit.

There's no debate. Brasso is a polish, polish removes the surface layer, you're literally destroying your catridge using it. Keep using it enough and you're going to wear away too much contact and you'll have a dead game. It's literally made to strip layers off things. If people can't get a cart working with a white eraser, and isopropyl alcohol then go to Deoxit, which is a product made to improve the contacts on electronics without stripping away any of the contact.

Just because something worked doesn't mean its the right thing to do. There are products out there for this without resorting to something that in time could destroy your cartridge.

I get that. And it's worth spreading the word. But, like I said, you're never gonna convince everyone, because it does work. You have to convince people not to believe their eyes.

I am not getting any video output but I am hearing the audio from startup.

I am running it on a Sony WEGA.

I just thought of something. It might be trying to output to 1080p and my TV doesn't support that.

added in 4.4:

- Holding reset on powerup will force 480p mode. This should fix the issue people were having with non-detection of EDID leading to blank screens. Once booted, you can attempt to change modes to a higher one (i.e. 720p).

Maybe that will help?

I've used isopropyl alcohol + pink eraser. The rare situation that doesn't work, magic eraser with some isopropyl alcohol. Neither of my methods have shown any negative affects to the plethora of carts I've cleaned over the years.
For my neo geo carts I do this (pink eraser and contact cleaner) plus a coating of deoxit, hasn't failed me yet.

So what TV is this if it can't do 480p but has HDMI?

Edit: Or your TV can only do 480p? I'd think that would be old component video stuff.

My TV goes up to 1080i.

I think what was happening was that I did not save the settings on the Super NT.

Next time, I will hold reset on power up to force it to 480p. Then, I will switch it to 720p and then save settings.

That sounds like what Imhad to do for my PC monitor. The 480p is jus a one time only thing so you,can select a resolution.

Every WEGA I've seen is like that: 480p, 720p, and 1080i.
If you are experiencing that, it is likely what you said, not saving your changes (which I wish we could have the option to have it that way or not).
FYI, Super NT OT. :) https://www.resetera.com/threads/super-nt-|ot|-a-true-1080p-fpga-super-nintendo-galore.28923/

Today I've played a big Super Genjin 2 and have noticed that scrolling is not smooth in this game. I have no such issues with other titles. I guess the game does not run at 60hz?

I presume your TV and SNT are set and saved to 60Hz. ;)
IIRC, it wasn't a very smooth scrolling game to begin with but I'll try to find my cart for it and see.

Which part isn't looking proper for you? I just played it on my PVM crt via original SNES and on a lcd monitor via SNT, and it looks fine for me.

I have a 1chip Super Famicom, an SD2SNES and an OSSC.
I basically just bought the OSSC to play SFC games, but I've since bought an AES and am waiting for the NeoSDPro to come out.
I also had to buy an oldish 1200p PC monitor so I could get 5x out of the OSSC, because my TV won't do anything above 2x generic.

So, my question is this: should I sell all this shit (apart from the SD2SNES) and get a Super NT? Is the video quality good enough? I really like sharp pixels and scanlines, so I'd definitely be running it at 720p to use those. Any opinions? I've skimmed a chunk of this thread but I haven't really seen that many good screenshots of scanlines.

For the record, I'm half considering selling my Neo Geo anyway because the SD Pro might be too expensive for me. I also want to save some space because I live in a tiny apartment, and having SNES games on my TV along with everything else would streamline things.
Any help? Links to comparisons or pics? I've watched a couple of videos but full res screenshots would be better..

Edit: Oh, also any opinions on latency, especially with that 8bitdo controller? I'm pretty interested in a wireless solution.

Some SNES games don't have smooth scrolling even on original hardware. Even Super Mario World, for example, has shitty, choppy scrolling. Was always like that.

The video quality is great. This is a direct capture playing Super Mario Bros. on the Super NT, 1080p@60fps. No scanlines on this one.

I can't really compare it to the original paired with OSSC though. I play my original SNES on CRT's. Nothing HD can replace that for me lol.

I wouldn't outright sell anything just yet; unless it's the way to fund the Super NT of course.

Just FYI that these are back for pre order again!

The black one is available for immediate delivery whereas the SFC and SNES colours don't seem to have a date. The transparent has been discontinued! (Kinda regretting not getting it...)

With the new jailbreaking allowing roms, dumping of games and saves and more, the Super NT is dope as shit.

Hope that means they plan to commit to a fairly sizable run so people will be able to get whichever they like for a good amount of time considering the whole missing out remorse on the nt mini. You know the moment one shell sells out the thread is going to be flooded with "AW MAN! I just heard about this, how is my favorite not available!!"

edit: just noticed the transparent has been discontinued. Enjoy your limited edition to anyone who picked that one up, I guess!

Grabbed one as a gift for a friend, but too bad it won't be available until September. Still, this is probably the last chance ever for these.

Super tempted by the Nt. The thing is I already have a RGB Modded SNES + Framemeister combo. Is this thing still worth it at all given my existing setup or am I just being tempted by shiny new things?

Edit: I should say it'd probably replace my current set-up if I got it since I already just the framemeister to hook up to an HDTV, I'm not one of the PVM folks when it comes to RGB.

Same boat as you but I bit the bullet on one now. I'm not a fan of how the NT is not 100% accurate with colors but I bought one with the chance they break it wide open like the NT mini.

I'm in. I really wanted one before, not missing what might be my last chance. Went for the classic grey and purple.

Have the indicated that they won't make any more? I continue to hold out hope that an NT Mini run will be made in the future, but hearing this gives me fear that I'll have to go the eBay route.

It's nicer and more convenient than hooking up the SFC to the Framemeister, so it effectively replaced that setup for me. Still using the FM for other systems, though. But it's nice to just switch it on and have it instantly working with no hassle at all.
Rarely even hook it up to the BVM now, it's just so convenient.

Anyone who has put in an order today what are the first two digits of your order number for those of us curious to do rudimentary sales tracking?

I ditched my Framemeister setup for one. So much better. Just less of a hassle and no black screen on resolution changes.

Nothing. I expect if they happen, they will just appear out of nowhere one day.

Far as I know, they still haven't redone scanlines like they said they would. Things have gone pretty quiet on updates, it seems.

Kevtris has been really busy and suffered some illness recently. Updates are forthcoming, no timetable.

Half considering sticking my Nt Mini on eBay. It's been sitting in the box since I got my Super Nt, as I've always been more of a SNES guy.

I sold mine for a crazy high price to an old collector I know. Would like to buy another if they make them available again (or not, if the custom cores come to the Super NT, which feels likely), but I had a bad tax year and the money offered was just way too high.

Do they charge when they deliver or as soon as you place the order? Thinking of getting the super famicom design that ships in September but if they charge now then I will wait nearer the time they have stock.
