Question: Does bluegleam carry over or am I gonna have to find them all again to get the adept equipment in NG+?

You'll have to find it a second time, in order to afford the Adept equipment in NG+, most of which is worthwhile (I found some a couple of the Lodge weapons better than the Adept counterparts). You wouldn't be carrying much over anyhow, because most of the bluegleam you collect the first time will go toward the upgraded weapons and outfits, almost all of which are worth buying.

I began this after God of War and that spear is useless. It will take some time to get used to

It's no Leviathan Axe, that's for sure; but then, Horizon is not a melee combat game. Like Kuldar said, the spear is mostly for stealth takedowns and overrides.

I never found the spear, even upgraded, all that useful. I'd use it occasionally to whack enemies that were small or immobilized, but for general fighting, it was the last thing I thought of. Horizon's combat is mostly about fighting at range, using bow and arrow, traps, bombs, ropecaster, etc. -- all the tools on your weapon wheel. Getting into melee brawls and whacking enemies with a spear is the worst option in most cases.

With the skill to boost the stagger on the strong attack + the crit boost skill, the spear is quite useful actually. You can KO a lot of machines with it, not just Watchers. I still mostly used ranged attacks of course, but it was useful in a pinch.

Yeah, once upgraded, it's useful under some conditions, like whacking less powerful enemies and even giving an occasional smack to big machines, when you happen to be up close. It's just not a major or primary weapon, like a sword or axe would be in a typical RPG. I'm making the point because I think sometimes new players come in with a mindset that this is a standard RPG, where melee fighting plays a critical role. It really doesn't. The spear is useful occasionally, but I don't think it would be anyone's first choice for combat.

So, I picked up the Complete Edition to finally play the DLC but apparently my saves aren't compatible. I really don't have time to play the whole game again right now. How long does it take until it's possible to access the DLC? Is it viable to play it on a lower level than recommended?

Thank God that my saves from physical game worked for digital complete edition. I would go mad

Beat TFW. What an amazing expansion. The new enemies, while tough, are great fun, and the new outfits and weapons are dope. Visually, I think it looks better than the base game. The camera, animation, music, quest design...well, pretty much everything is a noticeable improvement over what is/was already a damn fine game.

Also, I applaud everyone who played this on Ultra Hard. I'm not even going to attempt that shit. Those Frost/Fireclaws are ridiculous. I'd be using up so many resources.

Anyway, back to the main campaign. I hope CYAN actually has more to say when I go back after completing it. The Hephaestus stuff was really interesting and I'm curious to see if it pops back up.

That stinks, that your old saves won't work. I assume you've searched the web for solutions?

I think the FW quest opens up around the time you start doing Meridian-based quests. Pretty early on.

On easy, maybe. The machines are tougher than the ones in the base game, so regardless of level, you'll at least need to have well-upgraded weapons and armor.

Thanks. Yeah, there's a program that can edit save files that would maybe work but it's quite expensive and I'm not willing to pay for it.

I think I'm going to wait for a DLC sale and will just keep the Complete Edition for my collection.

This triple Frost Claw fight on ultra hard is fucking bull shit. I can't even buy any of the new weapons because they're super expensive on ultra hard.

It definitely is, doesn't help that the frame rate tanks there as well unless you have Pro and play on performance mode. I think it did it through Rattler/Slingshot spam and hiding in the tittle burrows when my health was low.

All I can do is take out one. These things have too much fucking health and they're just too all over the damn place and they don't even really attack the other guy and he don't do shit. Who green lit this shit.

The expansion just isn't balanced properly for Ultra Hard. The base game is much more manageable on that mode, but it's stupid that it locks you into whatever difficulty you started with in Frozen Wilds. It's not the first game where hardest difficulty in a game was poorly balanced and just hard for the sake of it.

I crawled into a hole, let the old dude whittle down their health and popped out occasionally to finish the job when they forgot about me. That fight is not balanced for ultra hard at all. You cannot fight all of that shit straight up because they're too aggressive and tanky.

I've been playing the base game for a couple days now, and I'm really enjoying it. Any link to a list of newcomer tips? I know that in some games, there are mechanics that might fly over people's heads, or items that should be crafted or bought as soon as possible. Wondering what those would be, in Horizon's case.

Get the modification skill ASAP and Tripcaster is life, I love that weapon.

Oh God. Please tell me the rest of the Cauldrons are varied, because the first one kinda reminded me of Mass Effect Andromeda's Remnant Vaults, which got really repetitive after awhile.
Also, you really want to get Concentration+ and the Double/Triple Shot as soon as possible.
Yup, saw the triple shot was a thing, and had to get it.

Learn your elementals, it makes life much easier. I still see people on Twitch spamming 200 arrows needlessly.

This was totally me during the boss at the end of one of the Cauldrons a little while ago. lmao

How many elements are there? I've seen fire, explosive, and electric so far, and I guess you'd count the two arrow icons as well?

Main three are Fire, Freeze and Shock. Important thing about elemental damage in the game is that you need to fill the element gauge (circle bar around the element icon) completely before it does its thing, inflicting an elemental status to the enemy. Fire does damage over time (and has some other side effects, like triggering massive explosions), Freeze slows an enemy down and greatly increases the damage they take and Shock stuns and disables them for a while.

Have played a good bit in the past few days. So far, I wouldn't say I've had an epic machine battle yet, just a lot of stealth killing the grunts. Watchers, Striders, Scrappers, Grazers, etc. are alright, but they're super low tier enemies that are mostly just farmed for supplies, rather than taken as a challenge that you've got to plan an approach and strategy for. Even the bigger stuff, like Sawtooths and Bellowbacks, can either be overridden and then cheesed, or go down quickly with a trap or two. Hoping the game opens up more, and the truly boss-like machines start to come out. Playing on Hard btw.

Base game is pretty easy, I would turn it up to Very Hard or even Ultra hard.

I pick up this game every so often, still haven't beaten it...think I have 3 main quests left.

But, played a bunch last night and was kinda blown away that I ended up finding out there was several settlements I never discovered before with several side quests I'd totally missed. Ended up in a fight with a Stormbird in one of them on top of a mountain as the sun was rising. It was amazing how the fight felt as if it was totally designed to happen the way it did. Looked and felt amazing.

Also thought it was really cool that although these side quests were designed to mid-game (most were level 10-15) the dialog refelected where I was in the games story currently
with the characters referring to me as "anointed"
Nice detail.

So I just finished God of War and I decided to pick this game back up (last played shortly after release)! I am level 11 and I am SO lost. I really was hoping to not have to restart so I am trying to avoid that.

Any help with getting back into it? I noticed some of weapons had upgrades and I have been slinking around, but if I remember there is a lot of stealth to the game and watching where the machines move around?

Yeah, when you scan an enemy with the Focus it will show the enemy's path which can be useful for setting traps. It also shows weak points, highlighted in yellow, and any element that the machine may be weak or strong against. You can also find all this under the Notebook section of the pause menu. Hitting the weak points does a lot more damage than other areas and can dislodge or break those components, disabling some of their attack moves depending on the machine. Hitting a Blaze or Chillwater canister on machines with a fire or freeze arrow respectively causes a huge explosion that burns or freezes anything in the area.

Excellent breakdown of the elemental effects:

As much praise as HZD gets for it's combat, sometimes I feel it's still underappreciated. One of my favorite fights is with the Behemoths up by Maker's End. If they chase you into the forest it just looks incredible. They're smashing down these giant trees left and right, throwing rocks everywhere. Super intense.

Yeah, the Stormbird fights are something else. Thunder Jaw fights, too. I love 'em.
https://youtu.be/qluo0osqysY
Watching this reminds me that those freeze canisters underneath the Thunderjaw are pretty much a waste. Same for the Bellowbacks. They're just not worth going after when there's much easier ways to take the machine down. Especially once they get covered over with armor.

Am i the only one who didn't get the OP armour with the power cells? from what i've read it basically breaks the game and i don't see the point in doing that. Getting the new armour in the DLC was totally worth it with the freeze/fire protection and i imagine using that power armour stuff makes you less inclined to actually equip anything else.

Not the only one. That said, after the nerfs the Shield Weaver is actually decently balanced at the hardest difficulties; protects enough to save your skin once or twice, but you shouldn't be over-reliant and coast on it, that'll get you killed.

Finished yesterday.

What a great game. Spent many hours playing it. The last 6 or so story missions are some of the best exposition and revelations, man.
Elisabet Sobeck, the Faro plague, GAIA, Aloy's origins, Sylens and his involvement... God, that was some nice storytelling.
I'm sure this is a common sentiment, but did you guys also feel that the tribe side missions and all that felt comparatively poorer by a wide margin? There were definitely some characters in there I liked (Erend, Vanasha, Olin, Avad, etc.), but it was largely a missed opportunity to show tribal growing pains and the resulting moral and ethical quandaries, in my opinion. Many of the characters and storylines were a bit shallow for my liking. Go here and get me a Snapmaw heart, go rescue my daughter from some cultists, climb this wall and kill the machines... I felt very little motivation to do these, due to their lack of personality. I hope the sequel can improve, in this regard.

Combat-wise, was the Ropecaster's immobilization meant to be that overpowered? It felt like cheating, I feel like I made use of it too much. My strat was to tie down the big machines, and use things like Ravager guns or Thunderjaw disc launchers to wreck house.

I'm glad I still have The Frozen Wilds to go through. Kinda wish I did it prior to beating the game, though, since I'm positive its events take place before the ending.

There's so much more to say about this game. Really glad to have finally played it.

Interesting Aurc, I went through the whole game not Using the ropecaster whatsoever. Maybe I should give it a go

I guess what folks gravitate towards can really differ! I stopped using the Tripcaster past level 15 or so, finding it somewhat unnecessary to have to set traps at all. Instead, the Lodge Ropecaster became a staple of my loadout. Tying down a machine and lobbing bombs at it with the Blast Sling is just too effective.

Yeah, that's a fair criticism of the side quests.. Fortunately they already improved on that a little with Frozen Wilds. In fact it improves on the base game in almost every way. And don't worry about playing it last. It still works fine story-wise.

Ropecaster is pretty much the most effective weapon in the game. I don't even know how you would kill a Stormbird on the highest difficulty without on.

Ropecaster is extremely OP, combined with Sticky Bombs completely trivializes the game. Hence why I don't use either weapon :D Dealing with them birdos isn't all that hard, really: bait it into doing the dive bomb attack, triple freeze arrow to the freeze canisters, boom, triple fire arrows to the blaze canisters, boom, triple hardpoints to the face and it's done. Tearing off the shock gun makes it easier. And that's only using bows.

Vectron, official beverage of the Old Ones.

43151354492_db5a110d71_o.jpg

I'm still exploring and stumbled across this the other day in one of the ruins. It really stood out because outside of electronic displays, there is almost no legible written language anywhere in the world. I can think of only two other instances that I've ever come across.

At first I thought it was a Killzone reference, but it doesn't seem to be. There are a couple of old games named Vectron but I can't make any connection to Guerilla. So maybe It came from this:

https://vimeo.com/202443968 (I hope it's from this) lol
