I'ts disappointing TCL continues to leave CEC menu control out of their TVs. It would simplify input setups if you could just use the TV HDMI inputs for other media devices and route audio out through ARC without switching remotes. They even took out DTS passthrough, so the the input situation is actually a downgrade.

Bought one yesterday and am pretty happy with it. The HDR content I've seen on from the Roku apps all look great. It's my first UHD HDR TV so I don't really have a reference point except for 20K USD monitors I've used for color grading.

One problem is when I connect my PC to it and try to turn on HDR in Windows 10 it doesn't work and the screen goes black. im also stuck at 30hz. I've got a GTX 970, which says it's capable of HDR, and Dxdiag reads my monitor as HDR capable and UHD at 60hz.

I've tried all the ports, so maybe it's my HDMI cable? I thought all HDMI cables are supposed to support HDMI 2.0?

Got new premium hdmi cables and my Xbox One X still flickers when I use it with my 615. It's not going completely black and asking for a signal though and the Xbox is properly detecting all the 4K features and they're checked green now. Just the flickering from time to time. My Xbox sits on a shelf under my tv with an hdmi in wall plug and the tv shelf has a hdmi out that I connected to HDMI 3. Guess my this TV doesn't like my wall hdmi input/output in my TV nitch.

Edit: Actually the Xbox one isn't detecting none of the 4K stuff and everything is yellow like hdr when I turn it off or restart.

Think I may have fixed the flickering. Fingers crossed. I set the Xbox color depth to 12bit and it's all good so far. The Xbox one X defaults to 8bit.

I just noticed that when an HDR game kicks in the picture turns very yellowish on the Xbox. I just found an HDR setting and it defaults to Dark HDR. There's 3 options Bright HDR, Normal HDR, and Dark HDR. Why is it defaulting to dark HDR? And is it normal for the TV to go black when it switches HDR on?

Mine goes black for a second when switching to HDR (I wasn't sure if it was the TV or the receiver switching modes). The TV has two sets of settings per input. One for normal, one for HDR so you have have them saved separately. I use HDR bright because I think it looks best given the lighting situation in the room. When you adjust the settings on the HDR mode it will save them so you don't need to adjust them every time it switches to HDR, and it will not affect your non-HDR picture settings when it switches back.

Okay thanks. I set it to Normal, but I'll try bright later. Anyone have any calibrated settings yet?

Edit: never mind. Going to try rtings.com settings tomorrow

Just exchanged my Samsung NU7100 for the 55r615 today @ best buy. Got $54 returned to me.
Now I just have to wait until Sunday to unbox it and hope it's not defected, especially since it was the last one. Also didn't like how the employee loaded it on the cart but we'll see.

Sticking with my P series after reading that review. HDR and flicker are improved but that's about it with some things being downgraded from the P series. Plus that response time out of game mode is horrendous.

Fourth panel (2 Amazon, 2 BB). Think I actually got a good one this time. There's still some DSE, but the the banding seems pretty minimal. Don't see any dirt under the LCD, which is something all 3 previous panels had to varying degrees. Gonna keep it for a week and see if the dse dissipates with use, though part of me is very interested in vizio p reviews at this point.

Jeez 4 sets? I'm to calibrate and test mine tomorrow a lot. So far besides the flickering and signal lost with my X1X mine has been good. I haven't noticed any DSE or banding so far. I'm a Vizio fan and have them in every room of my house and this 615 replaced my old Vizio 4K. The only thing I don't like so far about this set is it's only 60hz. I'm curious about to see the reviews for the Vizio P series myself. But, unless I have issues I'm going to probably keep this set...

I thought it was interesting that the P series really hold up well against the 6. If Amazon still had the P in stock I might have bought one, as I have $350 in credit.

From 'quake area to big OH.
How many bits is the panel for color?

I feel like I see either more noise or more macro on youtube so far.

And some gray sweep test looked horrible. Like, a 5 year old Westinghouse looked better. So I'm confused by that impression. So far most looks great.

I've been noticing the occasional signal dropout on my PS4 pro, but only when I'm playing 4K content in the YouTube app thus far.

TBH, I haven't played any games in 4K yet.

Good God those rtings settings for white balance and color have just brought this TV to a new high for me.
Movie content in HDR/DV is beautiful but playing Xbox X Games with HDR dark, warm temperature and their settings are stunning in a dark room, backlit tv.
I was amazed at the subtle colors and details I had been missing.
Just spent some time walking through the flowers in Assassin's Creed Origins anf watching the sun rise on a powder blue building.
NBA 2K 18 has always been a good looking game but these settings make the court and players come alive in a way that I have never seen.
The additional brightness of HDR in the subtle highlights of this compared to the p605 has really pleased me.
Have been considering the Vizio p55 F1, but I think this gets just as bright and with the low lag this is to me the ultimate HDR, gaming TV for the price bar none.

The main thing I'm interested in is the new motion settings. Seems the same issues from the p series are still here (uniformity, dse, etc).

So, just a quick summary of areas where the P-series outperforms the 6-series, if even slightly, based on a comparison of the two Rtings reviews.

Contrast
Viewing angle
Reflections
Color gamut
Gradient
Response time
Input lag
Smart Features (really? Should be identical)
Ad free (Lol, they have the same ads)

Not a total slam-dunk upgrade. As such, I think I'll just stay happy with my P55", though a size upgrade sure would be nice.
Now I'm looking forward to their 5-series review, see how they performs as a PC monitor.

did you copy what they posted? I'm tempted to do it. What am I supposed to set HDR to light or dark? Their settings section is confusing because they talk about general use first then switch to HDR settings which threw me off.

RTings review stating that black levels and contrast is better on the P series. Definite brightness improvement on the 6 series though.

Didn't expect that.

Review verbiage aside, I can tell you that my own eyes show a definite improvement with this year's model compared to last year with my typical content of movies and games on my Xbox One X. The brightness increase for HDR is really a very big deal, seeing things in a whole different light now.

Their settings didn't work for me (most colors just ended up looking washed out), and they don't advise using their exact settings but calibrating per-panel.

Everything else they listed for settings was pretty much identical to what I was already using. I actually haven't enjoyed anything but DarkHDR settings. I feel like the colors are too vibrant and skin tones just don't look right. And Warm is a must. Normal and cool just look too blue, to my eyes.

yes I used their exact settings. I figured what the hell gave it a shot to see how it looked and even though I realized it is not the numbers that I probably need exactly for my panel there is a definite improvement in my eyes to the screen and the picture.

it has become a much less rough picture, a smoother cleaner image and I lost that extra warm red glow That was present in the warm temperature setting and the darks are now perfectly clear and not crushed but plenty dark. It went from A little dull 2 more vibrant on the dark HDR setting. I had been running with normal or bright HDR in a dark room for Xbox x games because I just didn't feel that dark HDR was bright enough. these new settings brought the TV to life on dark HDR which is the most accurate color setting on the HDR spectrum on this TV. I did have to increase the color (under normal settings) in most inputs by 3-5 points though, it was a little washed out for my liking with their settings but even with that increase overall image quality improved.

Freaking lovely in games and movies and tv now for me.

I ran with a P 605 most of the past year in the HDR brightness is well apparent in game Not as much in movies. Also now with these settings on this TV it compares favorably to movies on my 2017 Vizio M 65 which I had felt was A better movie picture then either the 605 or the 615

whats weird is i cant set my tv settings to "movie" in picture mode. only gives me "bright, normal, dark" all HDR. no movie option.

edit: i had to use the roku app to change it to movie. yea darker and movie is mind blown good.

Do the RTings expert settings need to be input on both HDR content and SDR? I just did it and noticed when I went back to SDR they weren't saved there. Switching back and forth between SDR and HDR content is really messing with the TV. The colors will be super washed out sometimes in HDR and in. SDR it is really dark with the colors off. Not sure what's going on, but I basically have to restart my Xbox to fix it. I have my SDR/HDR settings how I like them, but for some reason once I stop watching or playing something in HDR and go back to reg SDR they look to be changing even though the settings look the same.
