This guy is absolutely drenched in privilege and so many of his "jokes" are just windows into how deeply ingrained his racism is.
Of course, he'll tell us he's not racist. His spouse is a person of colour, apparently. He's a SWM, but slavery had nothing to do with him. Of course, it couldn't possibly be that he's tone deaf because of his privilege? Oh no!

Holy shit I'm loving this. Josh Denny is someone I'm very familiar with. He used to be a frequent guest on a podcast I used to listen to called Nobody Likes Onions. It's a fairly offensive comedy podcast, and he started showing up when the host moved to LA. Josh was really unapologetically racist and bigoted and whenever someone would call him out for it like the host, he'd get really defensive and shit.
One of his stand up comedy bits I remember is about how he thought it'd be funny if instead of Noah from the Bible putting animals on his boat, he filled it with slaves. And the punchline was something like "God would say 'I told you to fill it with two of every animal' and Noah would say ''Ohhh I thought you said a shit-ton of n*****s!". So yeah, this stuff isn't unfamiliar territory for him. I wish I kept some of the old episodes of that show, there was some horrible shit he said.
Also its not much, but he blocked me for no reason on Twitter years ago when he had a falling out with the podcast's host.

So I did some digging and found a gif I completely forgot about. So Josh's first TV appearance was on The Jeselnik Offensive on Comedy Central. Not as a comedian, he was a guest from the audience for a game show style bit. He asked people from the audience what different races smelled like stereotypically. Of course, Josh gets asked "what do black people smell like?" to which he responds immediately "cotton". This gif was Jeselnik's response and still fitting today.

I love how these guys think that just because you're a comedian means you can say whatever you want and get away with it.
i've listened to far too much jordan b peterson when i read that and his voice pops up in my mind. i need a brain enema or something
I spend a lot of time in my class trying to teach my students to realize these prejudices. I brought all new books to the curriculum that include protagonists of color or from traditionally marginalized groups. Last year I had a student challenge me when I was going over Islamaphobia and the irony that the vast majority of mass shootings in the US were committed by white males. I got a phone call (as did my principal) from the parents accusing me of being racist against white people. Absolutely baffling. (They also suggested I read more uplifting books like Anne Frank).
The best part is that I'm a 6', white, blonde hair blue eyed dude. It was insane. They saw my last name and assumed I was some "ethnic" person.
