I understand why the don't just raise the cap and keep creating exceptions to get around the cap but it's really getting ridiculous.

Yes, it makes sense why they'd have this rule, but the way the allocations and cap are structured is absurdly complicated at this point.

Since the premier league is over I guess I might pop in here more. What teams do y'all support here anyways?

I live in Canada at the moment by the way. How are those teams doing? Lol

I support Detroit City FC, who livestream all their home games via Fox Sports Detroit and Facebook Live: https://www.detcityfc.com/news_article/show/906647

We're very close to Canada :) DCFC plays in the NPSL, 4th tier (depending on who you ask) but we outdraw a hell of a lot of pro sides. Josh Gatt, a former USMNT player, is with us this summer! We actually have a friendly against FC St. Pauli tomorrow (also free to watch online!)

Pretty cool for a Division 5 club.

So excited it's finally tomorrow.

Also, I was at our Open Cup match at FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, and this damn near moved me to tears:

How do you y'all feel about relegation for mls? Or too soon?

It will likely never be what it is in other leagues. It might exist in the lower divisions at some point, but the most you will ever see at the top is basically going to be based on market size and longterm financial survivability as the barrier to entry with the promise that you will stay at the top as long as the financial metrics are there. You will never see teams relegated because that will mean death to the club and people are not willing to invest with that at stake.

There is a small but vocal amount of people for Pro/Rel in the country, but it amounts to nothing much other than tinfoil hat or "I WANT THING, GIVE ME THING, MLS IS SHIT BECAUSE YOU DONT GIVE ME THING" type arguments

How do you y'all feel about relegation for mls? Or too soon?

the only way it ever happens involving MLS as it currently exists is if it actually forms its own "D2" in competition with USL, which is probably a 10-to-15 year timeframe if it ever were to happen at all

the issues being that the US has too many large TV markets, too far apart, for one league to be enough to touch all of them. but Garber often disparages small markets/USL in general (see recent national TV deal comments.) the best possible scenario to help USL, MLS, and these markets would be to fold USL into the SUM scheme (much the same way it would help the NWSL out immensely to do so) but they've shown no indication in wanting to share any amount of that pie with the women's league or lower leagues.

pro/rel without MLS is a lot more likely but would eventually require a Div 1 league to compete with MLS, which is a much bigger ask than anyone can accomplish right now. NISA was trying to do it but Peter Wilt just left his baby to work on bringing on a new USL side, and NISA is dealing with a severe chicken/egg scenario where they had a lot of folks that wanted to see a different team jump in first.

in the end, I don't particularly care if pro/rel ever happens here; I just want a situation where my club can continue to grow and exist.

Donnie Garber was just asked this question while touring the Pinnacle, Sporting Kansas City's new soccer training center:

Is promotion/relegation viable in MLS?

Garber: "Just because there is promotion/relegation in other leagues that were founded on different principles doesn't mean that it would make sense in Major League Soccer. We have a vibrant No. 2 league in the USL. We have (Sporting KC principal owner) Cliff (Illig) and his partners that have just put $60 million of capital, along with the public, into this building. If all of a sudden they're playing in a different division that doesn't have national revenues — because the USL doesn't have that — how does that make any sense? There's no economic rationality to promotion/relegation whatsoever in the era that we're in today."

The formatting on this forum is fucking TRASH. No matter how many times I delete the [ /Quote ] bracket after the 'Question:' in the above post, the site keeps adding one there on its own. Even though there is no secondary open [ Quote ] for the next quoted text.

You are killing me on the inside, ERA.

View is a very good podcast (very recommended) , but they also let people blog on their website from time to time. This was the big RBNY meme from this last week:

Also, the Atlanta fan blog at SB Nation is very good. Gotta give them a shout out for their primer for the next game. It's sad when a fan blog is better than an actual paid news source (The Athletic).

EDIT: KAKU SAYS PUSSETTO IS COMING TO RBNY!! DEFCON 1!! HAPPENING BUNKER TIME!!

TFC making it harder than it needed to be. If Gio was playing this game would have been done in the first half. Telfer was fantastic.

Robles got ruled out of the ATL game due to a knock he picked up against the Rapids. Super lame.

I thought youtube got the rights to all their home games
I think you need to be a YouTube tv subscriber. Anyway, respect to the traveling LAFC fans. They've totally filled out their section. Meanwhile I'm sitting high up in the TA tired as hell and hoping this mocha kicks in.

How does Portland not score there? My god, Adi. Nine times out of ten he has that one.

This is a good game, Savaresi has been doing good things with this squad.

EDIT: I spoke WAY too soon.

Yo, this ref sucks. Timbers players are getting cleaned out left and right and nothing. Meanwhile LAFC players are diving like they're on a swim team and getting calls all over the place.

Apparently Adams is heading to Leipzig soon. Thank god Casseres is coming along way faster than we thought he would.

Though with Adams going, I feel like that might lend more credence to Jesse making the jump too. It'd make sense that he would at least want one familiar face with him over there.
