I wonder if "exciting things" means a side-project à la HBS' Dark souls game that bombed terribly, a new game developer that he's making music for, or simply another Battletech project (which we of course know is going to happen).

or simply another Battletech project (which we of course know is going to happen).

From the timing, I'd guess that it is Battletech-related. HBS likely wanted to wait to see how the game sold within the first few weeks of release before committing to working on an expansion, and maybe more specifically, to sign Jon up to provide additional music or a brand new soundtrack. Pure speculation, of course.

I love the game but getting some dreadful load times in the mech bay, really hurts ones desire to play.

I say that as someone with over 100 hours and not finished the story.

So, thanks to Amazon UK I bought it sooner than expected. Do you guys think it's worth playing now or wait for more patches?

Finished after almost 80 hours, Behemoth and Medusa made it all the way to the last mission. The game got pretty easy towards the end, I still think Liberation Smithon is the hardest mission, having two Highlanders, a King Crab and a Stalker does cause a bit of a mess.

Noob here (but not due to the recent amazon deal), how do the missions work do new ones keep popping up over and over or can you actually finish them and move on to the next system? I did a lot of contracts but I'm still low on the money side so I went ahead with the main mission "Capturing the Argo".

I think contracts are pretty much infinite. They're procedurally generated and based on the planet you're on, so once the galaxy map gets big enough you'll never be able to exhaust them.

Priority missions are where the story's at, are generally (though not always) much more challenging, and they'll also open up the game a bit. Tackle them once you feel you're in a good spot.

The main thing to keep in mind is, "is this mission worth the cost?" Like if you'll take heavy damage, or worse, completing the objectives, it may be time to consider a withdrawl. A good faith withdrawl (completing one objective before leaving) will even give you a bit of cash for your trouble. Generally, losing a MechWarrior is not worth some cbills, nor is totalling a 'Mech to get the job done.

Yeah that's what I thought. How long is the campaign (only priority missions)?

Ran into a soft lock. Trying to move to the next Priority Mission, but the game refuses to move the timeline forward once I start traveling to the system. It will roll forward a few days, but as soon as I get my financial report (or a random popup event - I've tried several times now) the timeline will just sit and not move forward.

The game client also won't quit without crashing once it gets stuck in this mode, and I have to kill it from Task Manager.

Anyone else run into this? Is there a fix or workaround?

Ugh, I think my saves got borked by the game update undoing some mods I made and don't remember where they were located. Gonna have to scrap this campaign.

On the plus side, I can try something different out.

You can't just do priority missions. The game gates priority missions behind doing side contracts.

At a minimum, you could probably finish in 30 hours, I think.
I believe there are about 15(?) priority missions, but you also have to do random contracts between some of them for them to unlock.

Yeah thanks guys. Any word on how well it sold? I played the shadowrun games not too lang ago and loved them (except for Returns), so it would be cool to see some new content and improvements.

There will be steady improvements and quality of life changes over the next few months, and almost certainly expansions, etc. in the not-distant future.

Models for mechs manufactured beyond the Clan invasion are already built by PGI, which takes a lot of work off of their plate. HBS just has to work on everything else.

I expect (or hope) a Fourth Succession War based story is next. The huge cash cow in the room is obviously Clans, but that is a huge can of worms to which they are not going to rush recklessly, anytime soon.

Not sure if someone has answered this yet, but Battletech's update won't download even though it says that it's a 900~ish MB download. When I hover over it, however, it says I need 12.6 GB? What's going on here?

Bashing my head and figuring stuff out by brute force has been really fun. I had one mission where I had to prevent a convoy from escaping. I had my scout running up and stomping the tanks, while two of my mechs were holding their own against four mechs. I had my sniper swapping between both sides. My two attackers were too far back to jump in on the convoy chase, my scouts legs broke from chasing down the tanks and the last one nearly escaped before my sniper overheated to take it out just barely.

So much fun. I know if I keep playing and I "get it", it'll be easier, as it is with all things. But currently, the missions I take and the risks I go for in completing them feel so weighty. The devs have done a fantastic job. I get pangs of anxiety when I'm readying my team from drop. I love it.

I may have fallen down a Battletech hole today since the missus is out of town and did 6 straight hours of just running contracts. This game is great, especially as someone who used to play the old games and the tabletop ones.

Now, just hoping they do a Fourth Succession War expansion. I'd love to be involved in the raid on the Kathil shipyards (for either side, lol).

Useful tip: Holly SRMs have an unlisted +Acc buff, that you only see during missions. The SRM6++ I have are like a +6 to hit bonus on top of the +4 DMG, shit is nuts.

GOG? Can't help you there, sorry.

I finally lost Dekker. I pulled a 2.5 skull battle contract and I was experimenting with full armor melee focused Centurion/Dragon, long range low armor 2x LRM15 Trebuchet, and Dekker in the Shadow Hawk with a mix of close/medium range. For some reason every single mech on this contract had a blood debt with Dekker and bee-lined for him regardless.

Other than him, the rest of the mission went well and the experiment worked. The melee Mechs kept the pressure on the enemies while the Trebuchet kept knocking them down.

Try 2xLRM20 Stripped-down Trebs. It's insane. Like, between heavy and assault level hitting power on meds

Best you can do on a C1 is two LRM20s anyway. At a lower intiative.
Initiative can be worked around.

There come tough fights where even your LRM mech needs to participate in the armor sharing. I don't believe in leaving them in the back in pristine or drastically under armored condition.

On Steam, actually...
Oh ok well that's strange. Is it in the downloads list?

If you've already tried restarting Steam, trying right clicking on the game an doing the 'verifying integrity of game files', maybe that will force the update.

Then dump the Treb as soon as you get a Catapult C1.

It took me ages to finally get a Catapult C1, had plenty of the other type with dual PPC though. As is the way, 3 or so missions after get the C1, I managed to get the 2 pieces I needed of a Stalker so the Catapult went straight into storage! As much as I enjoyed LRM20s from over the horizon, having my Trebuchet become a target magnet forced me to adapt to more close range heavier armored SRM spammers with one LRM. It achieved the same purpose in knocking mechs down for salvage plus a volley of dual SRM6+++ is a sight to behold.

I cleared out enough room and it seems like it's checking all of the game files for some reason.

This may be a silly question but do you have 12.6 GB available? Even though Steam may only need to download a small amount of new data, Steam often needs to unpack files before the new data can be properly applied to the game.

(and if you're that low on space, you may want to clear out even more space since it's probably negatively affecting your drive's performance)

Just tried this out. Having to strip all armor out is reeeeally scary so I dunno I have the metal for it! When an enemy mech fired a shot at it I closed my eyes in fear.
The one I use basically has one arm completely stripped and a bit of armor in the front elsewhere, but no back armor. It can actually take a few hits, believe it or not.

Yeah, I ended up clearing out the space for it. Still don't know why it needed 12.6GB to unpack all at once though...

Just finished.

The game, planning and atmosphere is great. I sank about 80hrs doing side missions and despite some were BS (reinforcements activating on the second turn) I was engaged.

The bad is the terrible story, lady kamea can go to hell for all I care, bad optimization even though I was using a 1080ti, bad voice acting.

I hope they make an expansion and improve on those bad spots

Honestly rendering is not the problem. It's data and Unity. Which means CPU. It can be butter smooth and then stall like crazy on my 970. Second to last story map just had huge stalls everywhere, like it needed 8GB just to load and the CPU needed another 2GHz to breathe.

Absolutely still enjoying it though. Every time you get that next 10 ton up mech it feels like your strategy is totally revitalized. Had flashbacks to the original Mechwarrior when I ran into that Battlemaster.

Mind telling me what kind of framerates you see at 1080p or 1440p? I need a frame of reference for my GTX 1070.

The centurion is better. You get a special version in the story that has 3 missile racks and will take 50 LRMs (just). I think the regular one has 2 racks and more spare tonnage than the trebuchet.

Then forget about the catapult. It only has 2 missile racks. You want the missile variant of the jagermech. It has 4 missile racks and can do 60 or 70 LRMs depending on how insanely low you have the armour.

I'm annoyed that even a lot of heavy/assault mechs have so little spare tonnage that full frontal armour and medium lasers/srms becomes the standard loadout. The banshee is ridiculous. 95 tons and not enough spare tonnage to fit medium lasers and machine guns in all the hardpoints. I'm not even maxing the armour except on the front of the torso.

I think the low tech level hurts the variety. In MWO my mechs would have way more varied loadouts since XL engines, endosteel, DHS,etc free up plenty of tonnage for more interesting weapons.

I find four hours is reallll easy to do with this game, reminds me of Armored Core with the customization fun.
