To be honest 807 pokemon is daunting for any newcomer. Obviously people are going to be turned off hearing that.

Should probably note that very rarely are you able to actually obtain all Pokemon at the start of a generation. For example, I recently had to have someone trade me a Glameow with its Hidden Ability (Keen Eye) because I need a Defiant Purugly for a Battle Spot Special team I'm making. As it turns out, Glameow is not even obtainable in gen 7, and the only gen 6 games where Glameow is catchable are on mirage isalnds in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which don't even spawn every day!

This is probably why Gen 7 doesn't have a National Pokedex. Gamefreak's solution is more hiding obscure Pokemon away rather than deleting them. This way, they aren't required for completion, but fans of them (or in my case, needing it for a team lol) don't get burned either. I think this is a happy balance that seems to work!

I'm open to a lot of different ways the Pokémon series could go, but cutting literally any Pokémon is unacceptable. That is the single thing that the series should never ever do under any circumstances. There's definitely some Pokémon I don't care for, but guess what? There are plenty of people who love them. Cutting Pokémon goes against the entire spirit of the series.

The whole "we're scraping the bottom of the barrel for new Pokemon ideas" argument is so tired. What makes "prankster fairy who steals people keys and then imitates a keyring" any worse of a design than "ball"?

Get rid of some pokemon? No thanks. I dont see the arguement behind the idea that there are too many pokemon. I feel like this is a positive aspect of the franchise. More pokemon means more choices. Whats bad about that?

Mainly people who didn't grow up on them and still think that every game must cater specifically to them have this opinion. As such, I tend to ignore it. Getting rid of pokemon is the one thing that would get me to quit playing this series permanently.

I could see the argument in Game Freak slowing down or stopping creating new Pokemon, but I really don't think eliminating them is a good move.

Nostalgia makes it worse.

Yea it seems like a weird thing for Emily to say though. Outright getting rid of pokemon is just a terrible idea.

This is pretty much all I'm hoping for as far as enhancing the 3ds assets. Give the Pokemon models a bit more detail with the new textures and we're solid.

I don't understand what the issue is with kind of rebooting the series for a new generation of children and people from the 90's who stopped playing. Gen 8 will still come, i don't understand the frustration and hate.
2 years (or less than 3) would be the shortest amount of time that a whole new batch of Pokemon (not counting the few new USUM entries here) was introduced. With how many there currently are, I'm glad at the thought that they'd slow this down a bit.

that's exactly why they dont put all 807 in the games. if anything, I think they should make a supplementary game that does allow you to obtain the rest. I get the feeling Pokemon GO might be that, but that's a little to active for some people, in that, the need to go places for the sake of pokemon (and not the reasons people play pokemon go)

It's already been brought up in this thread (or maybe it was the other one), but Voltorb and Electrode are Pokemon's version of Mimics in RPG's. Treasure chests that are actually traps, hence there function in the power plant, where they appear as items in the overworld that attack you when interacted with. Pokemon like Amoongus for example would be considered scraping the bottom of the barrel because it's just a re-tread of the same design trope used for voltorb years prior.

It's the same trope, but also a completely different design, and it even makes more sense. Mushrooms with patterns resembling a pokeball.

It's a non-serious Sunday morning post on a wordpress blog where I'm just rambling about the eShop, PSN flash sales, Pokemon, and Thundercats. I tend to write goofy stuff during the weekend.

No, I don't want to kill your favorite Pokemon. Honestly, I was surprised it was even posted here, lol.

I'm sorry Emily, but I'm gonna have to disagree on the killing off some Pokémon part. Every Pokémon is someone's favorite. What is Game Freak gonna tell little Timmy when his favorite Pokémon is removed from the game entirely?

I want to meet the children who are huge Mr. Mime fans. They must be very interesting kids! ;-)

So show of hands. How many people believe that the current rumors are false and that the next game is not Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee?

Personally I'm still doubting the current rumors because I still find it more likely that the next game will come out in 2019.
I'm convinced the name is real and it is related to Yellow. But the Pokémon series is no strange to legitimate leaks being mixed with fakes, so I'm still wondering if this a remake or a sequel.

Both are fine by me.

I feel like every generation need its "cool" Pokemon and, for lack of better word, "crappier" Pokemon. Both of them need to exist, and an "all cool" Pokemon -- a very subjective list to begin with -- will only make cool Pokemon lamer.

There is an argument for rotating or retiring some of the Pokemon, though. 800 individual designs is a lot to handle for any developer.

Honestly I expect to see a lot more regional variants instead of completely new mons in the future, but I don't think they will ever kill off any Pokemon.

I remember back in 1st grade when red and blue came out, a kid collected every single mr mime piece of merch possible, english and japanese.

Okay not really, but I'm sure there is someone out there like that.

I agree 100%. If Gamefreak start axing pokemon I'll drop the series. I'm not going to stick around just to be paranoid that some of my favorites might get deleted for no real reason other than "lol cause".

Also holy shit people are STILL complaining about Klefki?

The Pokemon games always keep the majority of Pokemon for postgame in a seprrate Pokedex, so I don't really see the benefit in removing any.

I don't really see how Amoongus is more logical, in fact it doesn't make any sense at all naturally. It realistically wouldn't draw any person near it, unlike Voltorb which is a pokeball right down to it's shape and coloration. In what context would a wild pokemon evolve to have a pokeball pattern? Why would a pokeball pattern attract prey? Even it's pokedex entry points out how ineffective and illogical it is:

"They show off their Poké Ball caps to lure prey, but very few Pokémon are fooled by this"

Voltorb's Pokedex entries imply that the species existence is unnatural, and came into existence after the invention of the Pokeball:

"Voltorb was first sighted at a company that manufactures Poké Balls. The link between that sighting and the fact that this Pokémon looks very similar to a Poké Ball remains a mystery"

Voltorb is also the size of a basketball so the logical argument doesnt fit there either...

Looking beyond that detail, do the other changes look bad?
I think what he's going for was removal of the drawn lines. the only reason those are there was because they didnt model that detail. the crease in the eyelids, etc. but that doesn't come out well unless you can adequately draw that kind of depth

Give Leafeon its eye outline & eye detail back from the 3DS, the current face in the Revised version looks weird.

thats not going to fix anything. the mouth just looks like a clay slice, and the leaf veins were removed.
someone just upped the polycount which deformed its face shape and removed all of the textures.

oh and added a 3d bevel to the ears for whatever reason which looks like cardboard

I have to assume yoshi dude is just taking the piss

(Taken From Reddit)

This is why it's so eyeroll inducing to hear people complain about there being too much Pokemon to remember in a game. Asides from XY, which was a celebration of all pokemon so had the largest collection of them, Pokemon has always curated its game to not overwhelm players with all the pokemon. You are never required to remember all 800+ Pokemon.
