So I bought kingdom hearts and uhh... at the risk of sounding very rude, when does it get good? I'm at the Alice in wonderland world.

Guess it depends on what specifically you don't like. There's a lot of people who love KH2 and later games that don't think the first one holds up so you're not alone (even among KH fans) if you think 1 isn't very good. The world after Alice is considered one of the worst in the series by most, so it might get worse for you before it gets better.

That said I played replayed and platinumed KH1 earlier this year and I still think it's a good game. The battle system is fun once you've unlocked more abilities (guard, dodge roll, high jump, a bunch of different context specific attacks, etc) but it does take a while to get good. And everything from Hollow Bastion (one of the final worlds) to the end is still really great IMO.

EZA ERA Survey #19-20:

Out of 233 responses

142 -- [60.9%] -- prefer the Hall of Greats
37 -- [15.9%] -- prefer Amateur Gundam Construction
33 -- [14.2%] -- prefer Dumb/Fun Game Monday
19 -- [8.2%] -- have no preference
2 -- [0.9%] -- prefer the Weekly Hunts
0 -- [0.0%] -- prefer Blood Pact
0 -- [0.0%] -- prefer Eorzean Allies
0 -- [0.0%] -- prefer Spouse Quest

The Hall of Greats destroys the competition as favourite streamed series, it's not even remotely close. The popularity of the HoG makes me think they should capitalize on it more, the site idea was cool, as was the idea of putting up a framed collection of Greats or something along those lines, they could think about doing it six times per year (every two months) instead of four times: the number of gaming masterpieces to nominate isn't certainly low, and every year new great games come out; then again, the risk of diluting the series are there, but they could get back to four after a few years, when the heavy hitters are out of the way and things get eve more intersting. Both the Gundam streams and Dumb/Fun Game Monday (well, kinda, Kyle's still streaming in mostly the same format every week) are on hold due to Box Peek and people seem to crave for more of them: withdrawal syndrome? The Weekly Hunts result is a little underwhelming, but considering that Monster Hunter launched in January, I'd say we're on the tail end of the series, so it's understandable. Blood Pact, Eorzean Allies and Spouse Quest get no preferences: the first one is of course tied to a Patreon goal, so only few people can enjoy it to the fullest, by discussing the games with Blood, also it's more of a collection of random games than an actual structured series; the second one only appeals to a very restricted amount of people, and MMORPG aren't exactly the most watchable games; the third one has a very sporadic schedule and once again lacks structure, being just an Amanda plus Jones stream. The amount of people not interested in any of the series is rather low.

58 -- [24.9%] -- have no preference
20 -- [8.6%] -- prefer Retro Game Sessions
12 -- [5.2%] -- prefer Ben's Dojo
8 -- [3.4%] -- prefer Toy Box Tuesday

Boz v Woz has been Kyle's masterpiece: who would have ever thought that a Tetris stream could become such a complex and loved thing? I think that evolving week after week to become more and structured (the Buran, betting, training, soundtrack bot, the book, etc.), a clear goal to reach and Kyle's crazy bits elevated it to cult status. Maybe the Allies could create a stream where they compete to reach a common goal (Jones suggested this) or one of them could tackle speedrunning (Huber, Damiani?). A large portion of people (1/4) don't care for any of the retired series, so I guess the choice of retiring them made sense. Retro Game Sessions gets a surprising amount of votes, especially since it had a fairly short run; it's also particularly strange because very few showed a preference for the Allies atreaming old games in a previous graph. Perhaps the results highligh the demand for a retrogaming show: EZA is pretty future and news oriented when it comes to their shows.

Next time I'll post five graphs relative to group streams.

I looked up some stuff and I feel a lot better about the game now. It wasn't very clear that I had to equip abilities as I unlock them. Being able to dodge roll and see boss health bars makes a big difference. I'm playing Hercules now (not sure if that's what you meant to the next level) and its seems fine so far.

At the start of the second one. (Also, why would it sound rude? It's a video game)
(Though I do enjoy KH1. Also, keep a walkthrough up for Kingdom Hearts 1. Navigation is bad in it compared to the following games that are more intuitive.)

I meant Deep Jungle/Tarzan for the worst world, that's the other one you have unlocked at the moment. But I'm glad you're enjoying it more! I think locking integral skills like dodge roll, guard, and scan behind level ups and story progression was a bad decision, the combat is way too barebones at the beginning without them.

I don't like being the guy that comes into a room full of people talking about how good something is and saying "so this first game sucks right?" I am enjoying it more now that I learned that I need to equip abilities lol.

I picked the sword and the wand in the beginning, not sure what that really effects but it was weird having one attack combo for so long. I knew the combat would be way more basic than what was shown in KH3 but I wasn't expecting that level on basic.

Seeing Hubers wedding and getting to see the pictures really made me smile. The one where they had their first dance was beautiful.

I don't know man, just makes me happy.

The Witcher 3 came out on the 19th May 2015 and I got it one day later. I just realised that at exactly three years to the day I have just beaten its final DLC.

It was truly one of the great gaming experiences of my life and spending so much time with it has been an absolute pleasure. Really hope to see it in the Hall of Greats soon.

Congratulations, I had an similar experience this month when I finally beat the bloodborne dlc. I think this makes us rivals, right?

Don't worry about it. KH1 has some big flaws, like the sometimes confusing level design and bad objective design (where it doesn't tell you where to go, so you just have to run everywhere until you hit a cutscene), so it hasn't aged as well as other games in the series and most fans recognise it even if it's their favourite game in the series. It gets better as you get further into the game though.

Whatever you pick at the beginning determines your stats and what level you learn certain abilities (like if you'd picked the shield, you wouldn't unlock Scan until like level 15). I usually pick the shield as a strength but the sword is fine, while picking the wand as a weakness is a good move.

Ha, weird coincidence. I beat both Blood and Wine and The Old Hunters for the first time in March. :P

This year has had some amazing new releases but it's been fantastic for tackling my backlog.

I'm stuck at the Cerberus boss now. Decided to give it a break and watch friendcode.

In the beginning of the year I went back and got the platinum in bloodborne. I got tired of looking at that progress bar on the trophy screen showing less than 100% completion so I went back yet again and beat the doc. It was much easier now with my super high level charecter.

Yeah Cerberus can be tough. When you finish the other world (Tarzan) you get the Cure spell, which makes fights a lot easier. That's why I usually do Deep Jungle before Olympus, I forgot that's not actually the "right" order based on the suggested level.

I can get him to about 50% health pretty consistently. I'll probably hop over to Tarzan world then. Thanks for the help!

I don't want to be too combative, but there's a reason that a lot of very successful gaming channels also split up their videos. I didn't say that should be the only way to do things, just as an option at least – a 'best of both worlds'.

One of the benefits of being primarily funded by Patreon is not having scrounge for every view possible.

Woah, weird. That's one way to get around the power gap between the switch and the other systems. On the other hand, if your relying on an internet connection to play your probably not going to be playing away from home so what's the point?

Edit: Japan only, makes way more sense now I guess. They already have DQ10 doing similar stuff on 3ds over there, like somebody below me mentioned.

So:

So you are paying 20 bucks for a 180 day license? That is really bizarre.

I hope it doesn't take off too much. Sure this is stretching, but I would hate a future where we are not be able to just pay for games up front anymore and essentially revert to the old arcade model of pumping quarters into the machine. That would suck.

That's gotten increasingly common in Japan. There have been streaming versions of Dragon Quest 10 for 3DS and mobile, for example. Although I'm not aware of any single player games going that route yet. I wonder if Capcom is using the GeForce Now infrastructure? That would make some sense given the connection with nVidia for Switch.

I meant to mention this earlier in my kingdom hearts talk but: this game looks great runninng on ps4 pro in 4k. I can't believe how much they cleaned up an early ps2 game. The colors are great, the models are detailed. The environments are pretty empty but what is there looks pretty great to, except for things like books on tables that are just textures.

Yeah, honestly the look of the game on the Pro is one of the few reasons I kept playing. I loved the colorful vibes and the smooth 60FPS was top notch. Didn't play it in 4K though (before I got my TV). KH2 looks even better, by my estimation. I wish I cared more about the story or else I may have actually finished them, but I feel like I had my fun with each and was fine with moving on. I get the gist of the story, but I couldn't bring myself to get invested. Still excited for KH3, but it's not at the top of my must-play list.

Honestly though EZA should think of themselves as a YouTube channel funded by patreon rather than a patreon that puts out some videos on YouTube. I think the last few months have taught us that at least.

Not exactly related to Retro Game Sessions, but I feel that their GOG partnered group streams where they played (mostly) old PC games was sunset too early in my eyes. I'm in the camp that would like to see the group take on more PC and retro games outside of solo streams. I felt the game selections from those GOG streams showed promise with Huber recalling memories of playing Commandos and Double Dragon or Damiani manning the ship in FTL with Allies on the side. They were slightly smaller group streams, which I liked a great deal, but might have been more challenging with their schedules. Still, it's an idea for a stream/produced show that I'd like to see the group return to in some form.

Damiani playing FTL with chat was one of the best streams they've ever done! I loved the idea of a PC centric group stream per month, it appeased both those wanting more PC coverage and those wanting more retro\indie coverage, also those wanting more group streams; however most of the times they came unprepared and had tech difficulties.

Also they should try to do more streams with chat interactions, like FTL.

How do you think new Patrons primarily discover EZA?
The thing is, if it's in one part, you can watch it in as many parts as you want. If it's split into 3 parts, you can't watch it into one part.
I still think that if Blood adds timestamps to the Trailer Jones video, so you can easily choose which one you watch, everybody should be happy.

I know from experience that it's not always good to split up content. There was a channel which put out long daily videos which I used to watch almost daily.
After they split them up into parts there are plenty of days where I check what topics they cover and I watch nothing or maybe 1 of 4 videos.
When they did everything in 1 video, I used to watch everything even-though I wasn't interested in it as I left the video running. I have checked the views after they split them as I was curious and they had less views over 4 videos than they usually had over 1 longer video before.

It's not necessarily a good thing to split up your videos.

Trailer Jones works better as a single show where they discuss multiple trailers. Not sure why anyone would want it in multiple parts.
Agreed.

If I have a suggestion to make, it'd be to grade them and pick the best trailer out of the three (or however many there are in the trailer) at the end. Kinda like how Redelettermedia do their Best of The Worst videos. Unless they aren't interested in comparing trailers to one another, then nevermind. :P Or maybe do a themed Trailer Jones, like a throwback look at Metal Gear trailers of the past. I think this was suggested before.

Huh that's funny I'm also waiting on the next Nvidia GPUs lol (though I suspect EZA are gonna get the best card while I just want the cheapest one). Announce that shit already Nvidia.

Also, are we getting 4K videos from them now?
