Houston's rotation is ridiculous. If they start hitting like they did last year, they're going to be tough to beat the rest of the way.

i pray to the baseball gods every day that they start showing some semblance of how they hit last year. They'd be pretty unstoppable, and the bullpen is better this year as well.

good series win. But who the fuck made the schedule? The astros were on a road trip, came home for a 3 game "home stand" then when on a 3 game road trip, only to come right back and face the indians at home and 7 times in like 10 games or something like that. Don't they have software to figure this shit out?

If they do, that software isn't very good. April games should've been scheduled in warm weather cities or domes as much as possible. There have been so many rainouts and games played in 30 degree weather this year.

Where's that guy that said Jose could still be productive in 2018?

This hasn't aged well.

Still put up better batting average than Grichuk who replaced him in Toronto.

Not really shocking that the Jays home attendance is cratering. The team is boring, all of their best players have been on the DL for large chunks of the season, and the rest of the team has been terrible. The team is stuck with a bunch of bad contracts through the end of next season as well.

And I still believe that Bautista can still produce, he just needs more at bats.

I guess its possible that he needs more at bats but I saw nothing to indicate that he was anything but done. He can't catch up to the fastball anymore without going all out for it. Makes him susceptible to off speed. He'll run into a few HRs but not enough to make him a above average hitter.

With teams carrying more pitchers and teams having shorter benches because of it, versatility is key. Bautista can play 3B, 1B and OF so he has that going for him, he doesn't do it well though. And with higher and higher fastball velocities, if you can't catch up to the heat then eh, you might be done.

Lots of veteran's careers are being cut short because of lack of defense versatility and unable to hit the heater, don't think Bautista will be any different. (and its not because of some conspiracy to not sign veterans like the player's union thinks, the game is a young man's game now.)

I think, begrudgingly, that this is accurate. I guess I just have too much love for his past to clearly see him now.

No he can't, and he doesn't. This is the 3rd straight year of mega-decline for him, and his batspeed isn't good enough to keep up with decent major league pitching. He has to cheat like crazy on good fastballs and its pretty apparent when you watch him play. Sure, he can still hit a mistake off speed pitch into the seats but that's easy mode. He's not Ryan Howard bad but he's not far off.

Yankees optioned Clint Frazier back down to AAA pretty soon after calling him back up. Probably because Hicks is playing so well and their outfield is pretty stacked right now.

Been reading this book where the author interviews old ballplayers. One laments how soft today's players are, how much technology has hurt the game, complaining about how everyone swinging for the fences is awful and how kids dont even like baseball anymore.

This particular interview is with Sam Crawford, who played for Detroit in the 1910's in an interview done in like the 60s.

Book's called The Glory of Their Times. Good stuff.
