Austin Walker described his experience with the game on today's podcast. He really likes it a lot but is conflicted about recommending it.
https://waypoint.vice.com/en_us/article/vbqda3/pre-e3-waypoint-radio-dreams-call-of-duty (SoD2 talk starts around 1:14:50)

One tidbit that I didn't know could happen: he started fighting an enclave of 3, after killing 2, the 3rd NPC surrendered.

Thanks for the link. I love Austin's discussions particularly when he's conflicted! Listening now.

Just impulse preordered it on Xbox....

The feelings from a dead unfun lonely birthday will now be taken out on zombies.

Seriously tho, not sure how I missed this coming until a day ago, game looks right up my ally.

been playing the W10 version, and with fov fixed, motion blur and depth of field disabled it's actually been fun.

but good god, the xbox version is an unplayable mess.

How do you fix fov?

And I'm playing the PC version on a 4K TV but the game doesn't give me a 4K option. 1440p is the highest it can go.

Does this game have HDR on PC?

man its rough at first but its ridiculously addictive to someone that like RPG's and zombie settings. up till 2 am (thought I had only played till midnight)

its funny too because it feels like you have to make hard decisions like in real life, eg I had someone being a jackass and picking fights and I already had overcrowding so I thought oh your gone buddy. check his skillset and his my only medic. its like...ugh have to keep this guy! new recruitable person was nice but I couldnt take her in due to overcrowding.

Played an hour of the Ultimate Edition on my One X Friday morning for a stream. The game crashed a number of times, had a hard lock and the audio completely destabilized out into echoey nonsense. I managed to get a refund as I wasn't a fan of the product not functioning for 60$ but I think I'll resub to games pass to see if the issues have been fixed when the regular version launches this evening. Hoping they have/will allow to turn off motion blur on console.

The game is 50$ for the ultimate and that's not my experience on the Xbox x no crashes and I probably have 15 hours played. Only bugs I have seen are cars stuck on geometry.

I really hope they add some options for xbox users to disable certain post process effects. I am personally fine with the motion blur (as an effect, not with the apparent stuttering it causes), but i hate the vignetting. They already have enough to make it claustrophobic and difficult to see at night, why have that as well?

I don't want to be negative though, I am still loving the game so far.

Not every country is the U.S, my friend (59.99 Canadian for the Ultimate edition) Good to hear about the crashes lessening, hoping this stays true for me as well.

So having played about 5 hours, 50% co-op and 50% single player, haven't had really any major glitches. Some minor things, some stutter here and there but nothing game breaking yet. No crashes either, guessing the day one patch helped a lot of the stuff the review complained about?

imo, if you liked the original state of decay, warts and all, you'll enjoy this game. a couple starting options in a couple of locations makes replay easier or multiple saves easy. people talking about refunds and poor graphics i'm not sure what you were looking for. ymmv buy i haven't had any crashes.

basically, get off my lawn.

Do you miss out on anything if you don't do the tutorial? I want to start over and try a new area.

Auuugh, everything is going so well, and then bam, you meet hostile survivors on the opposide side of the map that instantly take out your follower, struggle to take them out so they can't do that again, then get out of your car on the way back to finish off a feral, it wrecks you unlike any zombie before, and then suddenly your car is surrounded by 20 zombies and you have to trek 1,000 meters back to base and dammit now there's a juggernaut wading towards you wtf. My dude made it back, but just barely.

Never underestimate a feral's ability to ruin your day. I'd say the same for juggernauts but I'm too afraid of fighting them to even see.
Can you pre load it with game pass?
No, only with a full purchase.

Yup, the music is excellent. I really like how it will dynamically change based on the action on screen. Listening to the low thumping tune that plays when you're sneaking around in the middle of the night is a tense experience.

yes, completely agree. it's like a banjo/western/electric guitar/techno vibe that shouldn't work, on paper, but in action does.

Had this happen to me once and the moment I turned my back to the guys, he started attacking me again. Next NPC that tries to surrender is still getting a bullet in their head.

Had this happen twice now; once with a hostile faction where the last guy surrendered then almost killed one of my guys when my back turned, and then I went to talk down some thieves who stole medicine. My leader is a sheriff and wants to see the good in people. One community member said just smoke them, the other said to not do it at all. I go in with the settlement leader who was robbed and my go to bodyguard. I talk them down they say "ok sorry". I move back to my car and when i'm like 15 feet away the thieves just gut the settlement leader that was with me forcing me to kill everyone. I can't tell if both of these are bug related or if the settlement leader idled too close to their house or w/e but I certainly don't trust no one anymore.

I haven't been addicted to a game like this in quite some time. Really nice to be able to keep playing a game without my gaming ADHD kicking in, lol. However, I lost my main man Luke today ;(. All cuz I forgot you can use the radio to ask where supplies were. I had 0 ammo and I've cleared probly half my map and still couldn't find some. Even equipment and weapons sheds didn't have any. And if a place was showing Food/Ammo or Meds/Ammo, I would never get the Ammo, lol. So he threatened to leave, I asked him to give me more time, and I went back out and literally like 5 seconds before I find my ammo sack, he leaves my base. I was soooo pissed. He was the 2nd best character I had at the base, so it was a really big hit to take. He was also my Mechanic so I have to teach someone else that now, too. So many things this game throws at you, and sometimes it's overwhelming, but for the most part it's just a really fun and tense experience. I'm about to get back on and go kill an Enclave that threatened me right before I had to get off... They're gonna regret their words!

the design director at Undead Labs said... maybe??

Yeah, seemed like I couldn't just randomly ask people at 9 but I did pop a recruit as a mission reward. They had bad stats though and I had no extra beds at the time, so I declined.

I wish they would man outposts more or something. Still a lot to happen with bases

Lol, I attacked an enclave of 2 and after killing the first member the second one surrendered and (because my leader is a Warlord and I'm roleplaying) I killed him. It was in fact a good move since I was able to retrieve a 50.Cal bolt action rifle from their camp.

One of my favorite moments in the game in when coming across as Juggernaut not only does he have this gutteral roar, but the camera shakes ever so slightly to go along with the rumble triggers on the gamepad. Very subtle, but Undead Labs did that particular enemy type extremely well.

if you did the tutorial there's a room with some broken beds (not visually though, the room just looks messy) you need to repair on your first outpost

it just makes people sleep better i guess

Somewhere
Whoa. I had a quest to take one of my characters to a neighbor enclave. I let it sit for a bit, finally swapped to that character that had the quest. As we're rolling up on the house, I get a warning that we're outside the mission area.

Apparently I arrived RIGHT on time to see some rogue non-zombies roll up on the house, and it was a 5(enclave+me and buddy)v3 fight. None of my enclave friends died nor did me and my follower.

That was awesome, emergent stuff.

RIp Wilis, for some reason you felt the need to jump out of my car into the middle of a zombie horde and be devoured in a second. She was a good friend

Anyone else having an issue where the game won't start? Window opens and will briefly show the logo and then it just crashes. Drivers are up to date and everything.

You really can't get too attached to your survivors. Had one that I really liked - had boosted his stats up and taught him some new skills and...one bad mission. A little too casual about how close I was to some zombies, which turned into having to run for it, running into other humans that wound up not being friendly and a firefight that attracted WAY too many zombies. Got torn in half and he's gone forever :(

I feel like as long as you have a car you can GTFO from any situation. If you DON'T have a car... you're gonna have a bad time.

Planned to play this for an hour today. One hour turned into to 3. The only reason i stopped was because i have a very tired follower and couldn't figure out to get them to stop following.

I tried the game for ten minutes. It is SoD alright?

Loving the opening, it is a bit cliche but it worked.
