I am very much enjoying the new Will Haven album. They were my favourite band back in the day (El Diablo era). New one is really fantastic. Sludgey, groovy and atmospheric. Guest vocals from Yob's singer and Stephen Carpenter from Deftones drops by for some guest riffage on the last song.

Song of the Day

Nuclearhammer (ON) - Nuclearhammer

continuing from the black/death discussion. This album is extremely underrated if you ask me and it's an immediate rec when it comes to newer stuff. IIRC it was fully recorded on vintage analog gear and the result I feel is an unusually warm and dynamic sound. I fully expect a new LP from these guys to rip us all a new one in the next year or two. Bonus rec:

Bestial Raids (POL) - Descending the Thantifaxath

so fucking slept on. Have been a huge fan since RBT. Couldn't ask for much more from a war metal album. This band also has one of my favorite drummers in the scene.

That Nuclearhammer is pretty bad ass. I picked up Fallen Angel of Doom and Gods of War from Blasphemy and Scum.Collapse.Eradication from Revenge not too long ago. Blasphemy is pretty good and Revenge is ok I guess, maybe a bit too raw for me. Haven't spun the album I have very much though. I'd like to get Conquerors War.Cult.Supremecy at some point too but I gave it a listen and wasn't terribly impressed. I've heard good things about Teitanblood but haven't gotten there yet.

My copy of the new Uada just showed up! I'm digging it so far. I think some may call it a bit derivative of their first album, but I like the little riffs that nod back to the original album. Feels like a continuing tale if that makes sense. Their not doing anything drastically new which is fine by me... I love this formula. I think if you enjoyed the first, you'll like this one.

You could also listen to Truppensturm, i feel they are a bit forgotten:

2017 thrash List is coming along well, had to listen to over 100+ releases again and December was pretty strong for releases. Presently happy with the growing Chinese thrash scene, lots of good stuff pouring out.

As for 2018 thrash releases, would any of you be interested in a top ten releases so far this year?

Some strong releases this year so far from China & Chile that I have really enjoyed

Tumourboy (China) - Condemned to Extinction

CIANURO (Chile) - Resistencia

Nechbeyth (SGP) - Blood.Axis.Domination

if there's one more war metal band I have to get out there it's Nechbeyth from Singapore. Their first album came out of nowhere and is a wonderfully violent tribute to Black Witchery. The noise is very fucking real but this really is stylistically perfect. It looks like someone is reissuing all their demo/reh material so I will be on the lookout for that. ANECDOTE: I obtained my copy of their first CD by trading with them for a Deiphago shirt.

Genocidal Sodomy (THA) - Quintessence of Messiah Holocaust

this is actually a side project of Ecchymosis's drummer. Beefy and raw, like tartare, more close to the original Blasphemy sound than anything. New Standard Elite actually got copies of this but I slept on it.

Looks like Uada had a rythym section change or two for this new album and even after. I love the drum sound on this new one though. It sounds like it hits a bit harder be it different drummer, production or both.

The Land
Turisas had a good Bal-Sagoth thing going on the first album, then he took that into a more dramatic concept album but the material was still solid, but then who knows what the fuck he was thinking with the stuff after that.

Not sure if anyone here is anticipating the latest Light This City album Terminal Bloom, but the album is their best work they've done. It rivals 'Facing The Thousand' for me and is likely to be my album of the year. "Dormant Tide" is so so good. Melodic Death Metal fans should give the album a look when it's out this week.

So today has been pretty shitty.

One of my long-time friends and staff member at Metal Archives suddenly passed away yesterday at age 31. We received word from his mother by email (who later updated his Facebook page by using his laptop where he was still logged on). It was a complete shock and most of us at M-A are still reeling.

RIP Chris. :( Time to binge on Overkill (his favourite band) in his memory. \m/

Sorry to hear that news, RIP. I'm familiar with quite a few of his reviews on there, loved his honesty, and gave a good review to Mortal Sin - Absence of Faith, criminally underrated release.

So sorry to hear that, Morrigan. You folks do good work over there. I can only imagine the shock and pain right now. I'll blast some Overkill in his honour.

My condolences :( Far too young. RIP Chris.

Had no idea they were together again. Really liked their albums so I was pretty sad when they split up originally. I think I had tickets for a show with Arsis/Light This City/ Death Angel years ago. Both Arsis and LTC cancelled. Enjoyed the single, so I'm sure I'll enjoy the album. Thanks for pointing this out.

Hope you enjoy it! I think it's their best work so far. Very heavy and intense. They've matured but never let go of their roots, so if you liked their old stuff I think you'll like this a lot. It's available to listen to on Bandcamp right now if you're curious. Otherwise it's out Friday!

Sorry Morrigan, that's sad news.

A couple of big releases lately. Amorphis and At The Gates.

Amorphis is really good. Not anywhere near as good as Elegy, but I like it.

At The Gates was completely meh. The music was ok, but the vocals have to be some of the most bland and uninspired I've ever heard. What happened to the band who created Terminal Spirit Disease?

When you're listening to a lot of atmospheric black metal and also watching Bob Ross paintings and can't tell the thumbnails apart.

My youtube recs are doing me real proud right now <3

Also not going to be a popular opinion, but I'm enjoying the newest FFDP record. Haven't bought it yet, but I probably will sometime soon. They threw in some country vibes on a few songs, and them doing anything out of the box is nice given how basic Got Your Six was.

There was a time many years ago that The Metal Thread was dominated by power metal. It's been interesting to see how it's evolved over the years.

Getting hyped to see Slayer in a couple weeks, along with Behemoth, Testament, Lamb of God and Anthrax. What an insane lineup.

This is killer

Gateways-era Morbid worship

I don't understand their logo at all, makes them look like a black metal band I wouldn't check out but whatever floats their boat I guess

whoa.... my messages to the past vinyl shipped today with 3 day shipping even though it doesn't release until June 28, 2018 :o :o :o
I think someone messed up.

also saw behold... the arctopus last weekend and although mike didn't play, they were still really solid - as was defeated sanity. I was also able to snag one of the last 2 indricothere s/t albums. probably my favorite release by Colin.
