The iPhone X looks the best. Smallest overall bezels. I thought the notch was dumb at first, but if you think about it, Apple put extra screen where other manufacturers just quit and left it a bezel. Apple made the notch so they could elegantly put in the phone signal on one side and time on the other side.

I'm digging the notch now.
I can't tell if you are serious half the time. The notch is clumsy looking, and they just threw the icons there without putting a ton of thought into it. They should have blackened out the top of the screen around the notch to hide it away, kind of like how they use black backgrounds on the Apple Watch to make the large bezel unnoticeable to consumers. It would have been a much more elegant solution. Regardless, even with the notch, I think the iPhone X is the best looking phone this year, at least from the front.

Basically, you're saying the "horns" next to the notch should just be bezel. That's dumb. Give me that extra screen for time and battery.

I'm surprised Android users, out of everyone else, don't prefer the notch. It's a far better idea than bezel-ing out what could otherwise be screen.

No, what I meant is they should keep the status icons there and just put them on a consistenly black background to hide the notch. For instance, if you open an app you still see the icons up there but the background at the top stays black to hide the notch instead of shifting white/black depending on the app.

Turns out there was a LineageOS 15.0 version out for my old Xperia Z3, so I can have my LDAC connection to my MDR-1000Xs without having to buy a new device. So yay for that.

Went to try and take a photo of my daughter early, needed to get the camera up and ready asap. Unfortunately, despite updating the firmware, the Honor 9 seems be awful at loading the camera app to the point where it was a good 10 seconds before the black screen showed the actual camera app. By that time it was too late and the moment gone.

Never had a phone with such a slow camera app and it's infuriating. I think I need to move this on now but it's tricky finding a decent phone with a good camera at £300 price range.

I've had a Pixel which was a superb camera but it had crap Bluetooth and kept losing the connection to my watch.

Any other phones with a good camera at that price?

Does Ldac work/included in lineage os?

Xperia X compact? Has a dedicated shutter button you can use to directly launch the camera

I really hope that Google learns a valuable lesson from this dumpster fire and actually tries to release products for consumers in the future which are actually tested for consumer use. The problem with Google, as with all companies who rose to prominence during the "_____ as a Service" era is that the phone is not the product being sold. You and your data are the product and the phone is the mechanism used to sell you. As long as this mentality prevails in places like Google, they will never understand releasing consumer products.

they should bring back hardware navigation buttons on Android and notch out four feet around them

the notch works with ios because their notification system is absolute dumpster trash so they don't need to display anything other than time and system stuff. android doesn't work that way

http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/11/11/pixel-2-xl-touchscreens-unresponsive-near-edges-fix-coming/

Has anyone bothered to collect a list of every single reported issue with this phone? It has to top the charts. It has so many different issues that it's shameful. Phones have issues at launch, no doubt. But the Pixel 2 is absolutely leading the pack.
Hmmm ran the same test and it seems fine for me. AP mentioned it could be due to edge rejection so I'm curious how Samsung phones behave there?

At least pixel phone work in the cold unlike iPhone x lol.

Just tested it on my S8+. If you scroll kn the very edge, it doesn't scroll. If you scroll from elsewhere on the screen and move out to the edge, it will scroll in the same place where it wouldn't if you started there.

Essential + iPhone X = best in the game for bezel design.

Shout out to Samsung for Kickstarting this, they're gonna kill it with the S9 next year.

GSMarena razer review is out.

https://m.gsmarena.com/razer_phone-review-1683p3.php

Maxes out at 223 nits... Is a bummer.

Many trade offs for that smoothness.

And battery is disappointing.

But dang GSMarena had a good time with the qc4+.

Charging the Razer Phone, however, is impressively fast thanks to the Quick Charge 4+ technology. We managed to get our review unit from 0% all the way up to 70% in just half an hour. And this is a 4,00mAh battery we are talking about.

Hope 2018 phones all support it. Seems like most games can't hit 60fps even the ones they partnered with and ship with the phone lol.

Camera isn't great as expected. Speakers are top tier. Usbc output for audio is OK.

Seems like a solid first attempt regardless. I'm just disappointed with the on screen battery life

I think AP actually had a list yesterday.

Somehow my fingerprint issue sorted itself out. I'm now really happy with the 2 XL. But definitely worried about image retention/burn in. I'll just bank on Google support swapping me out a new one if it happens.

Should you get the Pixel 2 XL? via Android Authority

The reality is that, while we can spend all day looking at these issues in isolation, that just isn't realistic – they do not live in a vacuum. You have to take the sum of the parts and wonder whether they are enough to dissuade you from picking up the Pixel 2 XL.

That is why, while most of the aforementioned issues are not a big deal when taken separately, they should make you pause and think when considered collectively. Even then, though, I am inclined to say they should not stop you from purchasing the Pixel 2 XL.

Google responded to these reports by not only extended the regular warranty to two years, but also allowed for two free warranty claims under the Pixel phones' Preferred Care plans. The company has also solved some of these issues through software, so it's clear that it wants to remain on top of these issues.

This in no way gives Google a free pass. We should not be seeing these issues, particularly those that pertain to the display, on a phone that runs at least $850 unlocked. No phone is free of problems, but the Pixel 2 XL's problems have understandably caused some folks to bide their time. If Google is serious about the smartphone game, it needs to do better.

Even so, between the return period, the extended warranty, and software updates that can remedy some issues, I feel confident in recommending you keep your Pixel 2 XL.

Welp that's a pass. OP5T it is then. I might just pass on that too if the blue shift doesn't affect the Pixel 2 XL I have coming in.

So it turns out that most Android games are kinda shit and have a hard framerate cap in their engines. This defeats the purpose of being able to go to 120 hz, unlike on PC games where most engines allow you to uncap the framerate. Razer is going to have a hard time with Android then, because while the hardware seems reasonably solid, Android gaming just lets them down. I guess I shouldn't be surprised the screen is very power hungry too, there's a reason why most other companies work so hard to optimize power draw from the screen. Going to 120 hz is a huge tradeoff in screen brightness and battery life and Android games just can't seem to provide any benefits to outweigh the drawbacks.

Razer tried to make a hardcore gaming device for a platform where gaming is strictly casual. It's just not a good business idea.

A Pixel 2 XL is not a bad phone to get, because file a warranty claim after a year or two and they will definitely have to send you the Pixel 3 XL instead.

I actually thought about this, buy it and suffer with it for a year and then get a free upgrade to Pixel 3 XL next year by filing a claim on whatever defect your device has. Didn't they do that when Nexus 6P were dying and give people free Pixels?

Still not really worth it. I use my phone every day. I need it to work properly.

Yeah they gave people with Nexus phones Pixel XLs. It seems to be a screen lottery now so if it's not that blue I can probably take it for a year. They probably won't have LG doing their next phone again atleast.

I mean, they gave free Pixels because the 6P committed suicide. There's no precedent for that. It literally offed itself. I've never seen a phone do that ever before. Some have issues that appear over time, like the Nexus 5 and its power button eventually detaching. But the 6P? Who the heck knows why it decided to just die on us.

Sad about the Razr. The screen is dimmer than David Pierce.

Pixel 2 xl sucks in many ways, but I'm keeping it cuz... What else is there?

That's why I'm looking at note 8.its just those 2 phones for 2017 atm.

OP5t camera is probably still ass.
Maybe I should import a mate 10 nonpro?

bro we've all tried but once people in this thread wants to hate something they'll never let it go.

Doesn't bother me, but at least someone looking for advice coming into this thread can have a ray of sunshine between all the bullshit.

And the pixel 2 doesn't? Every person I know who has one (XL) is happy with the phone. I'll take that over people reading into overblown issues.

Sucks that being in Australia I'm already overpaying for the device and have to wait a month for my XL 2 to arrive. 10 more days!

I really hope they've learned their lesson and stop working with LG. Out of the major manufactures, they're one of the worse.

It's nuts the amount of issues this phone has, with most of the problems being centered around the display.

All the Pixel XL 2 is showing me is that LG is a company I'll never buy a phone from.

presumably the pixel 2 will be their first REAL in-house pixel considering the deal with the 2 thousand engineers from HTC or whatever. I don't expect they'll work with LG again. Pixel 3 will say a lot about how seriously google is taking the hardware game because they're going to have to deliver not only a high quality product, but a leapfrog product over their current ones to compete with the likes of iPhone X and whatever the S9/Note 9 will be, etc...

Simply not fucking up seems like a lot to ask these days, and the sad part it is that's not even enough. That's just where our bar is. I still think the pixel 2 is the best android phone out there though, just from the software/camera experience alone.

edit: I realize I probably said this exact same thing last year.

My bigger worry is screen supply. As long as Google launches alongside the iPhone, they'll have to compete for Samsung screens now that Apple uses AMOLED.

No matter if the next Pixel goes full "in house", they'll need to get the display from someone else. Would be nice if there was tougher competition in the OLED space.
