I have nothing to do tomorrow night so maybe I'll go see it for the heck of it. I have a free ticket, and Hereditary doesn't come out until June 8th. It's nothing I feel like paying to watch, but it could be enjoyable even if it is milkage.

Movie was alright, almost fell asleep. Love all the characters. Surprisingly Daenerys wasn't that bad.

It's funny...when TLJ came out, I avoided media on it like the plague. Never saw the trailers or teasers or anything. I stood outside during the previews for Thor Ragnarok and asked my friend to text me when it was over. It was THAT serious. I was excited opening night to finally see it and I loved it for the most part (Finn still ain't shit).

Fast forward 6 months, I am asking for spoilers to Solo cause I have no interest & I ain't seeing in a theater.

Life comes at you fast.

Guessing that this is the scene George "Midichlorians" Lucas directed...

George didn't direct anything, he gave advice on one scene. Ron Howard said which one it was recently.

There's a scene where Han and Qi'ra are talking and she hands him her coat, and originally Han hangs it up but George said Han wouldn't do that. Ron doesn't say explicitly what he does but I would assume he just tosses it aside because Han is a slob and not a gentleman.

Well, the movie is a gigantic wank to the OT with zero identity of it's own, as I feared.

But at least now I can do this, i've been saving it for a long long time

Hey, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU who told me over and over that "The Cartoons Don't Count" and that "Lucasfilm is ignoring the prequels" for YEARS now
giphy.gif

Movie is worth my money just for that

Lucasfilm definitely isn't ignoring the prequels. In Rogue One they even brought back Bail Organa.

Somehow despite RO people were convinced that the prequels wouldn't be treated as canon, because JJ barely referenced them in TFA I guess. But that's always been nonsense - RO has Bail, Mothma, the turbo tank, Mustafar, Saw Gerrera from TCW, etc.

But for Solo
the value of this particular cameo is that it shoots down any claims that expanded canon doesn't matter. You could ignore Saw - he's so different from TCW that he's practically a new character and the audience won't be confused by him anyway. But for this? If you didn't see TCW or know what happened in it, you're out of luck.

I remember when the SW Leaks subreddit launched one of their rules was stuff from the cartoons wouldn't be allowed because they weren't canon. LOL

Can you remind me,
Who said to Han, "there's no such thing as luck" in the movie?

You know what I can't actually remember I think I may be getting it mixed up but...

In the war zone there is a soldier that says something about luck I somehow remember it as no such thing as luck but thinking back it might have been something different, like it's all luck and it made me think of him and obi-wans exchange. I'll see it again soon if I see the line I'll reply again but at the time it made me think it was a call back.

hands down the best of the bunch post original triology.

ties in perfectly, Solo is so much Solo, fantastic references, surprises like out of a star wars geek's wet dream, explores the characters perfectly, super likeable cast, great sets and the story in itself works. its just the best package I could have dreamed of
Also, getting paid for a forum posting, what more could you ask for, right?

At least put some effort into this stuff, geez.

What do you mean by blah? I admit I just got out of the theater when I wrote that, might be a bit blah, but i am happy to elaborate on it.
No I just mean that the movie being full of references and a fanboy wet dream doesn't get me excited in the slightest, disappointing if anything.

It's a movie about existing characters origins wedged inbetween other stories. It should be expected. If you can't get past that then don't see it, but I do think the movie holds up outside of that.

Good new characters, really incredible design, good action. Overall, pretty fun!

Watched the midnight release. Not as bad as I thought but I went in with little expectations.

Cinema was quiet compared to the last 3 films. Didn't feel any connection to the main characters apart from chewie.

Visually it was great.
Felt the film was better the 1st half.

I understand.

I think there is a lot in there to please fans of the original triology in that it captures a lot of what was fascinating and fun about Star Wars in the first place. What it gets right in that regard imho: Adventure and kind of a profoundly archaic storyline, design blends in with the OT incredibly well (from aliens to spaceships and sets it feels the most Star Wars since the original Star Wars imho), just badass characters including those unnamed Aliens that are just there without any need for explanation. BEST bar scenes ever.

Also I for one really enjoyed what they did with the existing characters. Han, Chewie and Lando worked really well for me. It adds and doesn't take away from them. Also acted very well imho. Shoot me but Young Han is better than Old Han at least.

There are also quite a few literal references which I thought were all executed well.
Stuff like Han shoots first, "I know", "I have a really good feeling about this" to name a few.
i don't feel any of that was cheap or awkward, which it could have easily been.

I have to paddle back on the surprises. There is at least one though and I absolutely loved it.
Especially speaking as someone who hasn't watched any of the cartoon stuff like I assume most of the viewers. To me the coolest villain ever was dead, plain and simple
Seems like not everyone is similarly enthusiastic about it.

All in all it was a really enjoyable film.

I'm planning on making a separate thread about "that character" and providing some history and context for those of you who haven't seen the shows, and to avoid clogging up this thread with discussion of a cameo.

Damn, I really, really liked the movie. Not sure yet how to rate it or where to place it in my overall SW ranking, but it ties in so nicely with the OT and all the references made me grin. Even THAT ONE SCENE is hysterical for me because I could not believe that they would do it. But they totally did. Absolutely unbelievable. That's how you subvert expectations correctly, take a note, Mr. Johnson.

So much more enjoyable than TLJ that it almost makes up for that movie. And Ehrenreich is great Han Solo! Can't wait to see him do the role some more, hopefully.

That was great, a really strong cast and awesome action scenes.
As someone who didn't follow or watch SW Rebels/Clone Wars that was a bit meh... Like how could that be Darth Maul ? And there's no visual physical changes on his torso or legs, I would have prefer droid legs or something to sell me the thing.

Woody, Emilia and Donald are really great, but Alden is also capable of acting despite the rumors.

I really want to see Han do more impossible things with the Falcon, because that was great ! I'm surprise to want sequels.

Saw it last night and was pretty good.

You probably dont want see my opinion if u haven't seen it, it might effect your expectations.

It was pretty straight foward and I was getting a tad bored but the action was good, the characters were good, and the story served its purpose.
I felt like this movie could of been a generic new I.P.
It does feel like disney are just using the star wars name because its so big, I dont blame them but if you took out all the star wars stuff it would not be that different.

I don't see how anything points to a decision on canon. The film still could disregard the Clone Wars show. I mean Crimson Dawn is an original invention of SOLO, isn't it?

They've been saying The Clone Wars is canon from the start, though? Like, it's not a question—they've been up front about it from the start, and have referenced the cartoons in multiple movies now.

Ok as the thread is now open for unmarked spoilers..

- Did they actually show the situation that leads to Chewie's life debt to Han? The jail escape didn't seem to be the one as Chewie was going on different way after that. Maybe the pull up on the train?
- We don't know anything further about Enfys Nest's involvement with Rebel alliance yet right?
- Teräs Käsi being canon got the biggest laugh from me and my friends

He does have cybernetic legs, but you can't tell by looking at them.

Am I crazy, or was the scene where the "lobby" of the millennium falcon is on fire a callback to remedial chaos theory's famous "Troy comes back with the pizza" scene? Even down to someone flailing about a big piece of cloth to put out the fire.

Overall very enjoyable movie. 7.5 for me.
(TFA being an 8, rogue one a 9, and TLJ a 10 from me)

Maul has gone through three different pairs of cybernetic legs at this point, each time getting ones that look more normal.

Good:

-Train heist
-Most CGI and effects
-Chewie

Bad:

-Main villain was laughably uninteresting
-Maelstrom chase and the cthulu alien were ridiculous (why did that last Tie-fighter suicide into a rock?)
-Everyone died, nobody gave a shit (like in Rogue One)
-Marauders being the good guys (yawn)
-Twists per minute was out of control
-Image was colour graded to grey shit
-Apparently the villains ship has a long range sniper cannon that could've been used to help his henchmen but what the hell
-Music was forgettable (like in Rogue one)
-Woody Harrelson acting Woody Harrelson[/
]

Marginally better than Rogue One since Solo had a few interesting and cool character like Chewie and Lando.

The pilot of that last Tie fighter already died before it crashes onto a rock, yar?

Who dies that nobody gave a shit about?

I really enjoyed Vos. I mean he is no Vader but an adventure movie doesn't need a glamorous villain.

Also I thought the film was rather colorful, grey filter?

I compleetly agree with your last two Points :D
