Mads Mikkelsen-Death Stranding is about 'global player collaboration'

Death Stranding actor Norman Reedus recently claimed that Hideo Kojima's mysterious PS4 exclusive has 'elements of social media', and now co-star Mads Mikkelsen has confirmed that the gameplay 'needs collaboration from different people from different parts of the world'. Mikkelsen shared this tidbit and fresh insight on Hideo Kojima's creative process while talking to Total Film magazine during the Cannes film festival for the premiere of his new movie, Arctic.

Mikkelsen found the mo-cap process unusual, but was impressed by Metal Gear creator Kojima's clarity of vision. "It's been a little surreal, because obviously there's nothing. We do everything. It's mo-cap. But the storyboard is so immaculate," Mikkelsen said, "He (Kojima) tries to explain it again and again and again, and I thought I had it, but then this happens and I've lost it again. It's too complicated. It's too crazy. It's too beautiful. It felt a bit like being in drama school: "Just jump in and improvising this scene. This is what happens. Don't question it."

Calling it now. People will praise it narratively no matter how terribly written it may be simply because of the surrealism and how it touches upon social media while completely ignoring the quality of the writing itself. But that's par for the course with Kojima.

Kojima deserves the benefit of the doubt. Can't wait to see how it turns out even if it isn't "my thing" at the end of the day. The man is the best type of crazy.

I really want to know what it is, but all these hints about its multiplayer character are not very good news for me personally. I'm open to whatever Kojima brings to the table though.

This is gonna be something silly like raid style bosses you deliver damage too but can't defeat and if the world does enough damage over a span of time it dies eventually like in a bunch of mobile / mmo type games.

This is what I thought. P.T. had a puzzle where different parts were in different languages, and the intention was that people from around the world would collaborate on it (a streamer ended up activating it accidentally, though). Sounds like that was part of what Kojima wanted to make.

The ending of MGSV is not nuclear disarmament. It is a repeatable event, but the story concludes with what you've seen. And what happens after is actually Metal Gear 1.
