A friend and I are planning on playing through this for our first time. So, I'm setting this up for my stream and I'd like to try to stream it like I do Destiny. I play on a 21:9 monitor. I stream and record from the same computer that I play the game on so I've found that I need to cut the stream down to a 16:9 ratio in order to get a stable performance. Plus this gives my viewers a consistant experience while I still get to play in 21:9. So, on my monitor the game is still in 21:9 but for everyone watching the stream it is 16:9. This works in destiny because I am able to choose the screen boundaries and so it allows me to move all of the UI elements inward to where it looks normal on a 16:9 stream. However, DS doesn't have this option so I am wondering if there are any ini tweaks or something that I could do to move the UI elements closer to the center?

So I had something weird happen earlier, you know the tower you climb up to drop onto the Taurus demon? There was a weird crab thing shooting white particles at me alongside the 2 normal undeads.

Never had that happen to me in over 400 hours before.

It's almost like a new game to me, although I do remember parts of it (especially the beginning areas). Only played it once all the way through with a single character back in the day. Any suggestions on gear for a Pyromancer/Dex based character? I got the Bellowing Dragoncrest ring and Ring of Favor and Protection. Otherwise, I am just using the starting Pyro gear and the Drake sword until I can get the Balder Side Sword and my dex up higher.

Are the servers for PS4 not up yet? Got my copy early and had to start offline because it couldn't connect.

Damn I remember now why people hate the Capra demon. Enter fog gate and get obliterated in first step...not even a chance to do anything lol

That's the SMT3 Matador of Dark Souls. If you can get past him, you can be confident that you've gotten somewhat gud. That battle is decided either way in the first 5 seconds; either you get stunlocked and killed almost immediately, or you get up the stairs and win rather easily. Kind of shitty design, but it's almost a non-issue once you've run through the game a couple of times.

I miss bonfire warping. Having to walk from The Demon Ruins all the way through Blighttown to get to firelink was murder.

That's not too bad if you take the conveyor belt to the New Londo elevator shortcut. 5 minutes give or take. The annoying part is if (post two-bells spoiler)

You've left Lautrec alive, and he's killed the Firelink Shrine fire keeper.

Anyone have any pictures of the lava? I had to use a mod to get rid of the vomit red in the original. Wonder if they did anything with it.

Really can't go wrong with a Great Scythe on a dex character. Good for PVP, too.

I wanna play as a tanky big shield knight strength character. Usually I roll a lot, wanna do the poise thing

Does the original Dark Souls support that build well? I know DSIII had poise balance issues

Using the Balder Side Sword for the first time. Took me quite a while to get them in Undead Parish. After I got the first, though, they just kept dropping.

So I started a thief build.

In OG Dark Souls I've already played through a Sword/Shield pyromancer, and a faith build Sunbro.

I'm trying to do a playthrough with parrying/reposting as much as possible. Though I'm not a huge fan of thrusting swords. Any advice on gear/weapons/stats?

Bandit's Knife is deceptively awesome. One of the best dex weapons in all three games. Fast attacks, bleed, and high crit. Add a hornet ring and upgrade it to +15: baby, you've got a stew going. And the thief class starts with it.

Fuck yea. Black Knight Sword first try!

Enjoy steamrolling the game! It was thanks to that weapon that Dark Souls finally "clicked" with me after my first few initial tries to get into the game.

Thx! It is my favorite DS weapon.

Just got the shield as well though I try and parry whenever possible

Thanks! Though I admit that bums me out pretty hard. So by choosing the theif class, I've already got the best weapon? That takes a lot of the fun out of the game :-s

What do I need to 'level up' if I wanna be a tanky night with a shield and big ass weapon? Strength, vitality, endurance and what else?

How does poise work in this game?

Are there going to be any Era groups for multiplayer? Is that even a thing? I first played the game years after it came out so I never got into the multiplayer, I was going to do some research into what all the covenants do tomorrow. I'm not really interested in PVP but I'm looking forward to helping new players out with the bosses.

That's about it. You'll likely have to level up Dexterity a bit at some point in order to equip a weapon, and you might end up wanting to level up faith or intelligence a bit to be able to cast a heal spell or whatever, but those are the three stats you should be focused on.

If you get hit while you're in the middle of an attack animation you're usually interrupted, but if you have high poise you won't be. This can be useful (even necessary sometimes) if you're using a slow weapon like a claymore. It can be hard to hit enemies that attack rapidly since they'll keep interrupting you during your attack windup, but high poise lets you ignore their attacks.

What stats you need will depend on the weapon. Probably strength, maybe some dex, maybe something else. One-handing a weapon will require you to meet its strength requirements. To two-hand it, you need less. Consider 2H a 50% bonus to your strength stat when calculating how much you need to wield a weapon. Endurance is important too, because if you're gonna be wearing heavy armor and using a heavy weapon, your equip load will go up and cause you to fat roll. Plus, heavy weapons will take a large chunk off of your stamina bar when swung.

Given that real life lava is so bright it sears your eyes into blindness merely from looking at it, Dark Souls is one of the few video games to actually represent it correctly.
