Fantastic OT, dogass movie.

In all sincerity, this movie did not need to exist, and it kinda takes away from the mystery of Han Solo from the original trilogy. The same way that The Last Jedi showed clearly that there is no plan for these movies as far as story, this movie shows that Disney is just greenlighting whatever shit they can to make money.

The machine needs to stop.

I'd agree the beginning of the film is the weakest part, but I don't think their reunion works as well without showing Han and Qi'ra get separated.

My feeling as well.

I find it weird how diverse the reaction to this film is. It's just a pure fun movie. How can you hate it?

Thandie Newton's death scene in this was utterly hilarious

I dunno man, you seem to have found everything non-intentionally humorous, funny in the film.

Slightly too long, but I enjoyed it way more than i thought i would. Congrats to Ron Howard for fixing it. Too bad we're stuck with an atrocious actor as Han.

what? If anything it was kind of maddening. She was a cool character and she killed herself so they could ... complete the job? In Star Wars where miraculous escapes are a dime a dozen.
I mean. I don't want to go crazy thinking about that scene, but I really dug Val and thought it was kinda dumb how she dies.

anyway. I loved the movie.

Let's talk about Paul Bettany for a bit. I thought he was great.

I enjoyed Corellia sans the initial driving scene which felt kind of eh. But I did enjoy the Lady Proxima bits--very interesting design and aesthetic that contributed to Solo featuring a storyworld of decent scale. It just further highlights how barren the world is in the sequel trilogy so far.

Ok. Convince me to go see this movie. Is there amazing space fights scene in it? For me, the best Disney Star Wars is Rogue One, a good 8.5/10 for me, Force Awaken a 7 , TLJ is like a 6 for me. After watching the trailers a few time, im feeling this movie will be a 3/10 . Got a feeling it will be not as good as episode 1-2-3...

There's not much space fighting but a nice chase scene, and the train sequence was cool too. Rest is pretty much on the ground.

I mean it sounds like your mind is pretty much made up. What are you looking for exactly? This is an entire thread of people saying everything from it was incredible to others being surprised at how much they liked it? Are you generally interested in the movie or did you just want toget your 3/10 jab in?

There's plenty to love in the movie including IMHO the best space chase in the saga. But if you're just looking for fuel to gripe with...

I am still digesting this. I had a good time. This is much better than Rogue One. Rogue One's last two minutes were probably the only thing that was better than Solo.

just go fucking see it. a 3 based on trailers? sheesh.

what are some of the reasons you liked Rogue One. if it's the aesthetics and production design, you'll like Solo. If it's new characters creatures and aliens, you'll like Solo. If you like Chewie, you'll like Solo. There is some war action, there is a space flight fight action sequence but it is pretty small and not anything like the space battle of R1.

Paul Bettany is always great.

I think he was a excellent villain, albeit a middleman.

And I'd love to know more of his backstory. Are those tribal markings on his face or did something try and rip it off at some point?

It's a bunch of winks and nods to Star Wars, but it's in its own uncharted category. It doesn't stand in its own merits.

Despite predictable ends, they take you through some twists and turns. The trailers were misdirection.

My thought is that Rogue One is a better overall movie but Solo was way way way more fun than Rogue One. I did the obligatory second viewing of Rogue One and loved it... but I may bolt out the door any second to see this again.. and I haven't been tat excited over Star Wars since TFA, and probably since TPM before that (basically for the end Maul/Obi-wan/Qui-gon battle)

Convince you for what? Its $15 and 2.5hrs of your life.
If you can't spare either of these, catch it on Netflix in the Fall.

Didnt want to come in and jab it tbh, looking to see if there anything that can make me change my mind. I love Star Wars, but i feel myself force to go see it, unless the trailers really dont do the film justice and its better than expected.

Ah well. Thanks. Was not blowed away by the train scene in the trailer. Guess ill wait if there not much space fighting. I would have love to see lots of Falcon action scenes...

No I'm calling bullshit. Nothing about this is dependent on knowledge or nostalgia of the OT. The biggest place for that disappointment would have been Lando. Fortunately Glover ended up making the role his own.

Not only does this stand on its own, but does so way more confidently than Rogue One or any of the ST.

As much as I love 'new' SW, this film was the one which I was the least interested in and yet they ultimately expanded upon the mythos in ways I very much appreciate.

The uploading of the droid's brain into the Falcon was awesome given how both Lando and Han personify that ship in the OT.

Also, the action scenes were incredibly well done; better than I would have anticipated from Howard.

That scene where Han skids the Falcon on the rocks and sends up shards of debris that shred the Tie Fighter was aces.

Also, the Lovecraftian beast was too fucking cool.

The space scene of the Kessel Run is one of the best space set pieces in the entire franchise.

No one here cares about convincing you. Either see it or don't, the last thing Star Wars threads needs are posts like this.

Well, a 3 can be hard , based on a trailer, but im going to give as example the next Jurassic Park. The first trailer made it look bad tbh, they released a second one, and finally it doesnt look bad. With the trailers of Solo, i havent found a moment where i was ' ok i need to go see it '. I could go see it and will end up giving it a 6 , or be surprise and give it more. I just dont feel the trailer might do it justice but because of that i dont feel tempt to go see it. Friends propose to go see it tomorrow, im the one hesitating ... :(

I know a lot of people are getting annoyed about people saying this movie shouldn't exist. I really disliked almost every element of the film, and I put it on the same tier as AOTC. From an existence standpoint, I understand why AOTC existed, because it had a lot to set up for Anakin. It did almost all of it poorly, but like there was a purpose. I walked away from this feeling the exact opposite. I walked away from this knowing Solo was a name given to him by the Empire (pretty bleh), how he got his blaster (who cares), and how he got the Falcon (which we knew). It just felt like a lot of winks and nudges without justifying to me why I spent two hours watching it. It didn't add anything to Star Wars, and with a new story like this, I expect that. RO didn't add anything, but we knew the story. I knew what to expect. This was just ugh.

Also, did anyone pick up Donald Glover doing ANH Carrie Fisher in having an accent sometimes and then not having one? Really weird.

yo. you are hesitating to go have an evening out with your friends bc you aren't feeling a movie trailer? GO, have a fun evening with your friends. Don't think about this too hard.
This movie is not a revelation. It's a fun popcorn Star Wars movie with good performances, weird creatures, an ok story that'll make you feel like you watched a Star Wars comic come to life. It has great production design, great costumes, great cinematography, good score, good laughs, good progression. It's probably a 6-8 for you but don't think about that. go have fun with your friends.

I actually cared for the characters in this one. Rogue One's biggest failure was not getting us to care about the characters. They needed to pull that off in order to feel the sacrifice.

I also really liked how the Millennium Falcon is in pristine condition when we first see it; but after the Kessel Run, it shows how it gets totally fucked up to the point of it being the beat up, escape pod-less, hunk of space junk that we all know and love :)

This could be a result of a mix between L&M and Howard footage.
yeah i noticed that too. He was phenom in his first scene. then the scene where they get to the falcon he seemed to have a different voice thing going on. not bad or anything just stood out as different from the previous scene, and yeah i suspect that's a leftover from L&M footage.

Just got back. I think it was a total garbage film. It's boring, unambitious, tells a story no one needs to see, and there was a total lack of energy across everything - the script sucked balls as a foundation, the cinematography was so weirdly lazy it made the entire film feel like a 2 hour ABC pilot aside from very few wide shots, the cast was mixed, and there was just no joy in the film. Stuffy, self-serious, but mostly lame and boring. I can't believe a brand new Star Wars film is this bad. There's maybe barely 1/3 of a good movie in there somewhere, and even that would have to be really redeveloped for it to be worth the time. Just.... zzzzzz.

Lando and Deckard were REALLY good and definitely carried the film as much as they could. Just wasn't enough. The Solo kid is not bad, and I think they made a concious effort to make him increasingly feel like Ford's Solo as the film progressed. Still not enough to save the movie from the dreadful script though. Everyone else was pretty meh.

That was one of my favorite parts. You're wondering how the Falcon got so beat up, and it was all from Han's flying in the Kessel Run.
