Hey I'm looking for some point & click adventures to play. I've kinda started to like them because unlike most other games I can actually relax while playing them. So far I've played through only 2 games though:
Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None
Gray Matter

I liked both of them but for Gray Matter I had to use a different save file at one point because I just couldn't beat chapter 6 cause apparently I missed one single thing and the group wouldn't show up. Also while playing And Then There Were None there was one case where you had to use a pump to get some water but the pump didn't have a symbol that told you you can interact with it which made me run around for 45 minutes until I got desperate and I just tried it and it did work. I really, really didn't like this and if you recommend some games please tell me about some obvious flaws like those in them. Another thing I don't like is: When you spot something and you want to pick it up but you can't because "the story didn't tell you to look for the thing". That made me quit Another Code all the way back on NDS.

I'm mostly looking for mystery/horror/crime type of games with a darker setting and a realistic artstyle, so no Escape from Monkey's Island, Deponia etc... I'm interested in the Black Mirror trilogy and I already own Syberia 1 and 2, I guess I got them on humble bundle one time but I haven't played them. Are these games any good? Thanks.

For games matching your criterion I would recommend trying Syberia since you already own it, but the first part is very slow, but if you make it past the first section, the rest of the game and the next one go pretty smoothly as I recall. For other games, Still Life is another game from that time period that is also mystery / crime, but suffers as well from some poor puzzle design in some places. The creator of Gray Matter, made the Gabriel Knight series, which is I think the best series to come of of Sierra and I really enjoy the first two games in the series. There was a new remake of the first game a few years ago, but I haven't played that version (despite backing it on kickstarter).

Speaking of Sierra. I just struggled through King's Quest VII. It took me two years, but I finally made it through this "classic" series. I wanted to finally play through them when the new game was announced a couple of years ago, but they were just so frustrating I mostly used a walkthrough the whole time. I hate how they punish every single thing with deaths. I'm hoping the new game is a bit more forgiving.

Have there been any must-play adventures released this year? It's been great for my backlog, but it's now a third of the way through and it seems like there hasn't been anything noteworthy released. The only game that I've seen that has looked appealing has been Detective Pikachu, but I'm looking to proven wrong here.

I'm a big fan of the Blackwell series. The games are about solving old crimes to help the ghosts of the victims come to terms with their deaths. ..It's a lot better than it sounds.

It's a very relaxing series for me. Each game is pretty short and the puzzles are generally logical with no crazy difficulty spikes. You're really playing for the dialogue which is some of the best in the genre. It's pretty low-key stuff and there's an appealing melancholy to the whole production. There's also an interesting story arc that plays out over the series, and it really sticks the landing. Good music too.

There are five games in the series and it's fun to see how Wadjet Eye gets better at making adventure games with each release.

I don't know if early-90s-style pixel art comes under your definition of realistic artstyle? If so, seconding Blackwell, and I'd also highly recommend Kathy Rain

PS - i want Black Dahlia on GoG! (abandonware version is almost unplayable in w10). https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/black_dahlia lets vote

Yeah, a GOG release of Black Dhalia would be great, but with famous actors like Dennis Hopper involved a rerelase could be difficult, if not impossible.

It is possible to run the game near flawlessly by running Windows 95 in DOSBox, but setting that up takes some work. If only there was a sort of collection chamber on the internet where such old legally problematic games could be found set up to run out of the box...

Great stuff as always from PUR. Was kinda sad she's not covering Broken Sword, though it's fair given BS's immense popularity compared to other more obscure titles.

But bloody hell, the Last Express is the uncanniest valleyiest thing I've ever seen D: I kind of adore it but find it hard to watch for any length of time, what a bizarre art style

Anyone know if there is a .ini file or such to edit it?

Been working my way through the backlog.
I got King's Quest (2016), Soma, The Wolf Among Us, Murdered: Soul Suspect, The Cat Lady, Broken Sword 5 and The Last Door installed. I'm not sure what I am in the mood for next. Any suggestions on what I should play?

Strangely enough I played all the games you suggested it. Base of how much I liked them, here is the order you shall play them:

*From Best to Worst.*

The Cat Lady
Soma
King's Quest (2016)
The Wolf Among Us
Murdered: Soul Suspect
Broken Sword 5

Wolf among us is pretty good, it suffers from telltale-itis but the plot and charafters are good

I have very fond memories of Mission Critical. A really good hard science fiction tale with an amazing solitary atmosphere. I usually suck at RTS, but the drone combat was both a lot of fun and still quite tense while perfectly doable, I found. A rare example of an action component in an adventure game that enhances the whole instead of being obnoxious.

It's also surprisingly in-depth. You can spend a while doing an excellent simulation/tutorial against the computer if you want. And you just know that your ship will be attacked for real at some time, which for me personally added a lot of nail-biting tension during my playthrough, a rare feeling for a point and click adventure game.

It was awesome seeing Michael Dorn in the intro. Even though it has little to do with the rest of the game except to serve as setup for the slightly contrived situation of being the sole survivor on the whole ship, this was a great scene that did a lot with very little.

Hey I'm looking for some point & click adventures to play. […]

Still Life is exactly that. I just played through the game over the last few nights - which took about 7 or 8 hours - and though there are a couple of characters I had issues with, I really enjoyed it as a whole.
I wish I could be more specific, but there's something about the aesthetic and tone of the game which really appealed to me, but I'll admit that I have a fondness for things set in the late '90s to mid '00s (the main plot is set in 2004).
It has a couple of really challenging puzzles, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. I know that many people just use guides for those anyway.

Still Life is actually the second of three games but it stands on its own, and from what I hear it's the only one worth playing (though some liked the original Post Mortem).
I checked the Steam pages for the other games after finishing it anyway, and saw that they're all on sale this week, so you can get it for a ridiculously low price:

There was a two-part Ross' Game Dungeon review couple of years ago which got me interested in it (yes, it took me that long to get around to playing it…) if you want to see more about the game, and there are clear spoiler warnings before he gets into anything that might ruin it for you if you are concerned about that.
The game is set around Xmas time, but I wouldn't call it an "Xmas game" - though some people may prefer to play it later in the year to be more thematically appropriate.
I'm interested in the Black Mirror trilogy and I already own Syberia 1 and 2, I guess I got them on humble bundle one time but I haven't played them. Are these games any good? Thanks.
I don't know about the sequels to Black Mirror, but those are all highly regarded games (that I've yet to play).

I think your ordering looks like a really good plan of attack. Thanks.

But at the rate GOG has been releasing old Legend games I might get tempted to pick on up before I get through these games. Also, Unavowed looks like it is getting really close to the finish line so I am hoping for a release announcement in the next couple of months. I know a release date would never be announced at e3, but it would be the megaton I would be most excited about.

Damn. Just finished Phantasmagoria. That was a wild ride. Highly suggest it to anyone who is into fmv adventure games. Going to check out the sequels and see if they are worth playing, I got a mad crush on Adrienne.

edit: after some brief research it looks like phantasmagoria 2 is shit. Well, after Phantasmagoria and Gabriel Knight 2, I need some more 90s fmv adventure games that are worth playing. What else is there? The last one I played before these was 7th Guest which I also loved. Maybe 11th Hour or Mansion of Hidden Souls? Suggestions welcome!

Having near finished the long serie of Fables comics, I can't wait to see what they will do in Season 2 because there is SOOOO much stuff and lore they can cover. If they don't go to the Homelands I hope at least they will show up the Farm

I've decided that I'm in the mood for something light, so I'll go back to King's Quest.
Also, I know everyone is burned out on kickstarters, but since there hasn't been any adventure games released this year that I've been interested in, I'm going to be generous and pledge to some ongoing campaigns.

I was watching this video on upcoming games and found out about some games I hadn't heard of yet. I think Backbone may have already been mentioned in the thread earlier, but it hasn't reached its goal and it takes place in Vancouver so I think it deserves another mention.

Backbone: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/106061903/backbone-pixel-art-detective-adventure-inspired-by

Backbone is a pixel art cinematic adventure with stealth and action elements. As private investigator Howard Lotor, you are set to solve detective cases, interrogate witnesses, explore the intriguing and dangerous world around you, and sneak your way to safety using smell-based stealth mechanics.

Backbone combines the visual and social contrasts of film noir with anthropomorphic animals, retrofuturistic technologies, and dystopian fiction. Crawl through the dark alleys of pixelated Vancouver, and experience the impactful storyline focused on themes of power and prejudice.

Join a group of eccentric friends looking to sneak out from duty and spend all their free time at their own secret extraterrestrial research club.
The story will unfold during the 70's, over the course of a young boy's winter break in a remote town called Tucana Lake, located on a land at the very end of the world known as Argentina.

Crime Code // is a combination of a criminal quest and a detective simulator with sharp plot twists and vivid characters. A young detective investigates complicated cases, bringing to light terrible secrets of the city dwellers.
A story takes place in the 1970s in an alternative New Chicago, the first Internet city, where all services, facilities and lives of citizens are now fully functioning as parts of a global network.

This game looks interesting

While not Point n' Click exactly, it's an interesting adventure game and is cheaper on Steam.

Just completed Broken Sword 5. I liked the first part of the story but the 2nd part got worse as the story progressed, and by the time the I was reaching the end it stopped making sense. Did something went wrong in the production of the game?

Just found this thread. PnC used to be my favourite genre - subbed and shall check out some of the latest.

I'm liking the look of Agatha Knife. Impressions? (Yes, I should just look back through the thread to find some rather than be lazy shouldn't I)

After the slow start to this year, things have finally ramped up.

Detective Gallo comes out this week on May 30th.

According to their Facebook, the game will be out initially on Steam and GOG with PS4 and Switch to follow later.

I'm liking this trend for adventure games to be released on Switch. I'm also looking forward to picking up Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker on Switch, which releases next week on June 5th.

From the recent posts on twitter it seems like Gibbous, Unavowed and Lamplight City are all entering the final stages of production so let's hope for some release dates soon.

I like to imagine a world where one of the main events of E3 would be the adventure game presentation with new trailers with release dates for these three games, then Charles Cecil would come on stage and announces that Revolution's new game is Beneath a Steel Sky 2.

Here's some more screenshots:

Upcoming game from creators of J.U.L.I.A., release date: 2019

According to the latest kickstarter update should be releasing by the end of the year.

I have zero interest in BASS2 anymore. BS5 taught me that all the best dialogue & characterisation in the classic revolution games probably came from Dave Cummins, as BS5 was bereft of any.

Great work with your thread. Lots of really nice looking games I wouldn't have heard of otherwise. Under a Porcelain Sun looks really cool. The thread is quite big now though so at some point I am going to take the time to go through it more thoroughly.
