Twitter groups are basically direct message but in a group so like group chat.

People been complaining about lack of api support since 2015 or so.
Huh. Didn't even know that was a thing. But yeah, their official app is garbage so I hope they get their API up to date at some point when they aren't busy issuing contradictory guideline statements on a regular basis lol

To be fair how much have you used NFC? I've had Android phones since the beginning. I was literally flashing roms and tweaking on my HTC devices a decade ago.

I used NFC one time to transfer a picture...took more time than using messaging lol. Seriously though what do you use NFC with? I'm curious.

The public transportation card in Dublin can be toppped up via NFC on their app.. but only on an Android.

It made my commute more awkward every time I needed to top up, with me having to go to a shop with a reader to 'collect' the top up, which defeated the convience of it entirely. I never used the app because at that stage I could just buy the top up in the shop.

It's honestly unforgivable that after having the chip for so long that Apple haven't seen fit to allow basic API access to it. It doesn't matter until it really, really matters, trust me on that.

Apple added third party NFC access in iOS 11: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corenfc

It's on the developer now to support that.

Yep gonna return the iPhone x. Great hardware. IOS still needs some work to fit my needs, I'll probably check out the 2018 one which hopefully also offers a plus model.

I just kept gravitating to use my pixel 2 xl these days even though the screen is trash.

Maybe I'll pick up a note 8 lol.

They probably won't ever make the APIs up to date since there's a huge source of revenue in ads in the app.

I still remember when Tweetie changed the game in the Twitter clientsphere. That app literally created pull to refresh in apps.

I don't feel the battery life on my X is the best.

When I look at what's using the most battery, it's always Safari.

Any recommendations on any settings I should enable/disable in Safari?

I'm keeping my Pixel as well but boy is the screen trash, the iPhone X poops on it. If only there was an iPhone X Plus :( . Another thought I had today was the battery life on a hypothetical X Plus will be insane...

Still hesitant about spending for a browser especially for iOS where you can't set default browser.

Does App store have any return policy?
No return policy as far as I know, but iCab is probably the most complete browser on the market, all devices combined. You won't want to return it.

About the going forward, backward function, @Pub, you have to go to "User Interface", and enable "Swipe from edges to go back/fwd". Disable "Pull to switch Tabs", which could interfere.

Best battery life saving trick I know:

Go to settings > general > accessibility > accessibility shortcut > and select assistivetouch, colour filters & smart invert colours.

In the control center, the accessibility shortcuts will now offer you the option to quickly set up your iPhone to display everything in white and white, which consumes far less energy with OLED.

Thanks for the reply, I have all that setup if I really need it and certainly know about the OLED screen. Ive read many people here saying their battery life is good so I'm a little concerned that with regular usage mine isn't doing so hot.

Safari is the culprit according to the battery usage, are there any settings within that could be contributing to this?

The battery life hasn't impressed me that much coming from an iPhone 6+. The worst apps for me are a location based dating app (24%) then whatsapp at 10%. I need a partner lol.

A friend who played with my phone the other day said I should turn off the parallax wallpaper effect (reduce motion) to save battery. I like the motions too much to turn it off though and I'm not sure how much it'd save.

I bought an apple silicone case and it's already showing dull signs of wear one week in. I don't think that's supposed to happen

If you're not using a content blocker already, installing one might help improve the battery life in Safari. Mobile websites are terrible these days with garbage ads and tons of trackers that use up resources. AdGuard is a free one that I know of.

Yeah, content blocker is def a thing to try. I use Adguard Pro, not really sure what one is considered best, you should try a few different ones until you find one that works on all of your regular sites, i've had spotty results on a few and sometimes have to switch to different blockers if one stops being effective.

I have Crystal installed. At first I thought it was part of the problem but after researching it it seems, like you just suggested, it helps.

So I'm currently looking for an X to replace my 8 Plus so I can get on the IUP and sell my Plus. Once I DO sell my Plus, and pay off my att next balance, I'll be paying Apple directly for the IUP program and the NEXT charge will come off my ATT bill, correct?

May have to upgrade my phone soon since my current one is busted.

Was going to buy the X through Apple unlocked, but a rep at Sprint says if you pay off your phone, they'll unlock it for you.

Can someone confirm this?

Yeah it's been more than a few days at least though but I expect all kinds of kinks to be ironed out over time. Not my first rodeo with new iPhones.

I generally prefer sticking on the s line cuz things usually are ironed out by then lol.

If the X is any indication, the weight on a X Plus would be insane as well. It's already too heavy for my taste.

I really don't think we'll ever see a Plus again, or at least not a Plus version of the X. When Apple said "this is the future", I think they didn't just mean that as a slogan. I think they see the X as the basis of the iPhone going forward in terms of form factor -- no more two styles, but a goldilocks in-between size so they don't have to support two sizes anymore. That's my hunch anyway.

I use Purify, which was considered the best iOS ad blocker. At least it was last year.

Not making a Plus sized X would be leaving money on the table. I think this was the first year where the plus model outsold the regular model.

I'm not a fan of needing to double-tap the sleep button for when you're prompted for transactions/purchases within the appstore or apps. That's far more inconvenient than resting my thumb on the home button, which was near instant. Is there a way to turn that requirement off? If it was simply FaceID it would be so seamless.

Purify used to be considered the best but 1Blocker has overtaken it since then. 1Blocker has some really nice features like being able to hide page elements right from within Safari. So aside from just ads you can also remove page clutter (newsletter subscription boxes, sidebars, headers, footers, whatever you want).

It's a bit on the pricey side for a content blocker though - free to try with a $4.99 in-app purchase to unlock all the features.

Got out of the "honeymoon phase" with the X quicker than any iPhone I've ever had. Still have a few days left before my return period ends and I'm not sure what to do. Whatever phone I decide to go with (X or 8 Plus), I'm only planning to keep for a year, unless they don't introduce a bigger screened version of the X in 2018.

I checked out the Note 8 at Best Buy a few days ago and it's a very nice phone, but I'm in too deep with iOS to make the switch.

its actually not too hard lol. There was a phase where I bought a bunch of apps during the first few years of iOS, then the novelty wore off and I mostly just use the normal apps like google stuff, youtube, fb, twitter etc.

I had ios and android phones for a bit and never really had an issue with apps because many are service based and crossover just fine. Pocketcast is the best podcast app that syncs between the 2.

Almost no wireless chargers support charging more than one device at a time, regardless of size. That's why Apple is trying to change the standard with their "Power Mat" next year, which allows charging phone and watch and headphones at once, apparently with the phone controlling the charge. The rare ones that do are just large pieces of plastic with multiple chargers in them, except for a weird one I saw that was a cone you set up on a table and it charges everything around the cone.

And if you're talking about Apple Watch, that can only be charged by the official Apple Watch chargers, the watch doesn't support the Qi standard that the new iPhones do.

something i've been thinking about... this phone really is too dang heavy for the size of the screen and battery. Basically weights the same as my pixel 2 xl which has a much larger screen and battery.

The frame is stronger, but the screens are still fragile. Just seems silly. iphone 2018 plus is gonna weigh over 200 grams at this point.

It is pretty hefty. It could stand to lose a lot of weight. Agreed.

If they want to make a plus, they'll definitely need to use plastic*. It will look cheaper, but that's the sacrifice they'll need to make. I may sacrifice the luxury look for a lighter, bigger screen, though I was sure of it two weeks ago. Now I'm starting to feel the X is the perfect size.

*would wireless charging work though?

But have you seen teardowns? There really isn't any wasted space in there, the weight is all materials.

I think the stainless steel adds quite a bit of weight. This phone has a similar footprint to the iphone 8 which is like 30g's lighter.

like the s8 which is the comparable samsung phone, is 20 grams lighter, with comparable features.

Has anyone received their iPhone X way sooner than the estimated dates on the website? Ordered one a 256GB Space Grey it's saying mid-December for Verizon, but what are the possibilities of it arriving way earlier?

It weights 1g less than the Pixel 2 xl, despite having twice the storage, wireless charging materials, a kinect in the front facing camera, a 3D touch layer, in a miniaturized borderless format. In terms of engineering it can't be beaten in 2017. Maybe using a new, lighter conductive body (other than glass or plastic) could be an optimization path next year?

Is there a deep dive on what exactly all the annotation aware features offer?
Do you lose out on these by having attention to unlock disabled?

Thank you! Besides Swappa, any other suggestions on good selling hubs for an 8 Plus?

Ps- nice to see you over here!

I just use craigslist and meet in a very public place. Or Facebook marketplace, same thing.

And thanks, I appreciate that. I go wherever Apple threads are, it's a curse

I got Adblock. Is it any good? Seems to also set up a VPN?
What other apps do I need to have?

I use Purify for my adblocking needs. Very effective and no VPN needed

Qi standard doesn't currently support more than one device, and Apple Watches aren't Qi compatible. You'll want to wait for the AirPower from Apple next year which can do three devices at once including the Series 3 Watch.

Do we know if it's any combination of three devices or is it only phone-Watch-AirPods?

Plastic would work for wireless charging but I truly believe that hell would freeze over before Apple used plastic as the primary material in a phone
