There's also a secret area in Blighttown that has a few IIRC, but you'll likely need to use a guide for that as well, it's hidden behind two illusory doors. The zone is called Great Hollow.

I got 3 slabs in that area on the 360! Fingers crossed this time around... Starting my Remastered run tonight and I'm genuinely excited to get back in the mix!

If I can make progress I might try for the 1k again. Double "the dark soul" cheevos!

Darkroot Garden is pissing me right off, man. Why do these guys respawn? Lord.

Found Sif the Great Big Doggo, it kicked my fucking ass. Don't think I should be fighting it yet...

But then I stumbled across the Moonlight Butterfly and beat it in one go.

Couple of questions, I'm going with a STR/DEX build and currently farming for a Baldur Side Sword.

  • Is the Undead Parish the best spot for this? There are about 5 Baldur Knights in the area but the closest bonfire isn't really close and I've been at it for about 45 mins.
About shields:
  • Is there a difference between a Crest Shield and the Grass Crest Shield other than stamina regen?
In regards to the Baldur sword, should I just skip it and go for the Great Schythe? I've never used either one but I'm trying to do something different this time around. Thanks.

Yes, Parish is where you farm it. Try popping some humanity. The higher your soft humanity (the number next to your health), the greater your item discovery. 10 I believe is the cap.

The crest shield has 100% physical damage resistance and great magic resistance. It's a great shield. Grass crest is a good shield as well with high physical resistance and the stamina regen. Depends on what you want. I personally carry both around for different situations.

Depends on what you want. Great Scythe has range and bleed. That's pretty killer. It's entire move set isn't the best but it's running R1 and R2 attacks destroy. They alone make it a worthy weapon.

Balder is perhaps the most solid straight sword. Nice and long, good for thrusting.

I personally prefer the scythe. The bleed just adds a whole new fun dynamic.

Giant Dad: The Legend never dies - Ch. 1

So, I'm making my Giant Dad build, because is the best DS meme build and is fun to use. Managed to complete the catacombs and got both the mask and get the sweet Zwei to Fire Zwei. I needed several tries, because I'm rusty as fuck and because after reaching the blacksmith I had the great idea of use the bonfire, forgoting there's no warping, so I had to make my way back on foot...it wasn't nice.

I've spent the past three hours trying to help people fight Quelaag, and every single time two things happened.

1. Other players kept running into her AOE and dying, or getting hit by the AOE and knocked into lava.

2. The player that summoned me wants me to go with them on a journey up through Blighttown, then back down again, only to die to Quelaag once we finally get to her.

Why.

drop your sign at Sif´s door and help other people, this way you can learn the moveset and it gives nice 20k souls for every kill.
(tip: go under him between his legs, deal damage, when he does the spin back off a little, then dance between the legs again)

Oh good, I've run into the

moonlight butterfly. I have no magic resistance and entirely no idea how to kill this thing haha

Edit: Got it. Kind of. I did the best I could dodging and finally found an opening and got half the health off. That sweeping Lazer wrecked me tho

There's an NPC you can summon in the room with the staircase that the boss door is in, it will easily beat the butterfly for you. I usually do that with melee characters.

No need! I rolled constantly and squished him on his second comedown

Butterfly down. Think I might go see what the watchkey basement tower has inside, I believe I know what door it opens

I haven't even beat O&S yet and I've got a +15 demon machete. I might actually try to grind humanities as a darkwraith to unlock the Izalith shortcut - I've never tried to do Bed of Chaos before Anor Londo and I'm wondering if that's possible...

Master Key is the best thing ever. I just wish the entire game was open from the start instead of funneling you to Anor Londo and making the last 3rd a bunch of unlocked areas you have to warp to. I'd love to be able to do a "reverse boss run" in this game like in Super Metroid.

I think I'm gonna have to get a Switch when this comes out on it. This game is so infinitely replayable and it honestly has to be one of my favorite games of all time. I honestly can't even chart the path I took to get to where I am now from memory and any game you can say that about is GOAT material.

The "hold to down on the d pad to select the estus flask" shortcut from DS3 was added. At least I'm pretty sure that wasn't in the original.

One minor thing I dislike is how Phantoms immediately disappear after conquering a boss. You're supposed to allow at least 10 seconds or so for them to linger so we can all spam gestures.

Also just noticed that the NPC summons stick around like they're supposed to, so it's only player summons that fade out instantly. Hopefully this is the kind of bug they fix, and soon.

I'm having really bad luck with summons. I'm not getting summoned very often, and when I do the hosts always suck. Someone summoned me and another player to the chapel before the gargoyles and then just stood next to the lift to Firelinnk spamming emotes until I left. I just got summoned by Capra Demon and the host did the "throw stuff over the wall" cheese method. I guess I'll take the free souls, but why?

Damn people going for the Plat again. It was so annoying last generation. Especially some of the item drops like that dam Channeler's Trident.

FROM was like, "hey let's make a rare drop for a rare enemy in a really annoying area of the game that limits your mobility!"

Whats a good starting weapon for a pyromancer.
Whatever you prefer. Pyromancy doesn't scale with intelligence directly. It's a very versatile class. I had a quality build pyro last generation.

You need to upgrade your flame at specific merchants to make it more powerful.

I went to make Quelaag's Furysword at the Giant Blacksmith. I had enough demon titanite to full upgrade it, but I ended up going in the wrong menu and turning it back into a falchion +10, losing Quelaag's soul in the process.

It was enough to make me ragequit.

Awesome, thanks for the response. I'll keep trying to get it. I've got my humanity at 5 now so I'll just bump that up to 10. I'm getting used to the great scythe but I'm pretty sure I'd prefer a sword.

Where did you find the twinklings?

It's also decimating Gaping Dragon. Two swings cuts its tail off.
Crystal lizard hidden in barrels right before Taurus Demon, and you can trade moss (all 3 types) to the crow in exchange for 4 more twinklings, so you can bring your weapon to +4. 2-shot Capra with my BK Halberd hahaha.

Managed to kill the 4 Kings. Earliest I've done it (never killed Ingward before, feels bad). I'm not gonna invade helpless noobs in the Parish or anything, though (I'm level 40 anyway now, not THAT low), but I'm gonna prowl through Depths, Blighttown, etc. for a bit. So far in the Depths I've encountered mostly players with decent gear too, lots of UGS that can OHKO on backstabs and stuff, so it's all good.

Isn't it possible to go to Darkroot Garden from Andre without MK? I thought that door was open from the start...

Testing a skill build instead but I didn't like Claymore/Zwei. Got the Scythe on my first Sorcerer but I'm not so fond of how it looks when you run with it in one hand (up, down, up, down...)
Yes, you can get to Darkroot from Andre without the master key and without ringing the bell at the Undead Parish. In fact, you can ring the Blighttown bell first this way by taking the path from Darkroot to the Valley of Drakes and going in the back way. You can actually complete a fairly large amount of the game before ever ringing the church bell and without having the master key. The ability to complete areas in different orders is what makes it my favorite souls game, and the lack of that freedom is the thing that disappoints me the most about DS3.

Crap... I slapped the crow away...
W....what? You can do that? >_>

Pretty sure you can't kill the crow. Just go back to the Undead Asylum at the beginning, there's a section to the side (your left when returning, kill the torch hollows first) with the nest, go to that nest and you'll her her say "give me warm, give me soft" or whatever. And drop 1 moss, quit & reload and you'll have your twinkling. Repeat with the other types of moss. Blooming type gives 2 titanites!

Are hit frames different on this version? I normally build a shield character but I started a 2 hand dex build and found it very easy to dodge attacks compared to PC with dsfix 60fps. I'm not the best dodger but I played through to gargoyles without a shield or dying once...

It's not. There's a gold fog door which blocks both entrances to Izalith.

Man i really want the switch version to hit.

Ah well using the cheap pc version to get the hang of things before i make an invading character for the switch release. i think itll be super popular when it hits.

Somewhat. It's more non-linear, the movement is stiffer, and (early on at least) you really need to keep an eye on the stamina gauge. Though I think that if you liked DS3, you should like this as well.

It's much, much slower and less linear, especially if you take
Mystery Key
as the starting item. You can basically go to mid-game areas right at the start.

I much prefer it to DS3 but the slowdown will be difficult to get used to at first. The level design is where DS shines, it's the best in the series in that regard.

Allright!
Yeah, I'm having a hard time with my first playthrough of DS3 on PS4 Pro. The unlocked framerate is all over the place and so disturbing. I'm at the end of the game excluding DLC but I really should start all over on my new PC (whenever it's on sale on Steam).

But... I'm definately sure it's not only the framerate that makes me dislike DS3. The lack of freedom and re-used things á la Best of Dark Souls gets me a bit turned off. I'm sadly surprised I won't "get into" DS3 as much as DS1 or BB.

Solaire was there for my Platinum.

After so much DS3 and BB I thought I'd like DS less than I did back when it came out but I enjoyed it just as much. I liked post-Anor Londo much more than I remember, except for Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith, those areas were ass back then and still are ass now. Otherwise fantastic game. My favorite Souls game.

I got one of those too. If I'm doing straight strength and dex build is it good? I never hear anyone mention it.
From memory since I'm a halberd fan: useful if you play defensively and want to pick enemies away from distance in pve. Not supposed to becgreat in pvp. Not the greatest damage dealer. Search for the weapon name+wiki if you want accurate details. Shouldn't spoil much, if anything.

I forget how to get out of blightown haha, I don't have the master key, can I get out through the ruins? Do I have to go all the way back the way I came in?
