If it matters to anybody, I'm getting much better performance with the newest nvidia graphics driver on my laptop. I can even get 4k60 with few drops or slowdown. Before from the driver from earlier this month I was getting some slowdown at1080p.

As an aside, what's up with all the banding in this version of the game? In DSfix you could fix this by overriding the texture filtering. Is there no way fix this in the remastered version? Look at the sky and notice all the lines in the sky in the upper left corner.

New Londo Ruins has major banding as well. Too bad they didn't fix that, seems like it would have been an easy change to make.

Yeah, PvP is still fucking broken. Reminds me why I never played in online mode before when people show up seemingly invincible to my attacks and teleport behind to backstab me to death.

Wow Gwyn really is easy if you just parry him. I honestly never got the timing down on the PS3 version so I never bothered trying.

Next up, Sunbro goodie two-shoes run.

Does DS:R have native support for DualShock 4 in the PC version? I played SOTFS with Steam spoofing it, but it would be nice if there was native support.

I just fucked up. I accidentally turned my beloved Claymore +7 into a Devine weapon. I was meaning to upgrade a regular long sword for a single purpose weapon to smash skeletons in the Catacombs.

I'm a strength build, pure melee kind of guy, and haven't put a single point into Int or Faith since starting. Guess I might have to find Jesus and turn into a warrior cleric.

A lot of the difficulty comes from enemy placement and close quarters in this game. How the Souls games have evolved.

Man this game feels really rough after Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3, not that I'm not enjoying myself with this remaster- its just that I have held Dark Souls for a long time to be my favorite in the Soulsborne games, and I feel a lot of that has to do with because it was my first. This will give me a really good opportunity to re-evaluate where it fits into my rankings.

Also, can someone remind me how viable faith builds are in this one? At this point I've done every sort of build in these games except a faith-based one. For that reason I started with Cleric.

Very viable. There a few weapons that scale with Faith too.

Yeah it does. Still enjoying it. I hope for a remake in time, fixing the later areas.

Can you revert back to a standard weapon from Divine/elemental/whatever?

Any way to increase the x and y mouse sensitivity beyond max? X sensitivity seems ok but Y is super super slow. I know that controller is the preferred way but I did that with all the other games and kind of wanted to try M + KB this time.

Well, it took me only all damned night, but I finally got a Balder Side Sword to drop.

Following that I killed the Black Knight in Undead Burg, and he dropped a Black Knight Sword.

And then the Prowling Demon near the blacksmith in the Undead Parish dropped a Titanite Catch Pole after I took it out.

I feel grossly lucky (and not so incandescent).

Bleh. I'm done with Dark Souls for the night. Really digging this remaster so-far, and I'll be happy to jump back into it tomorrow. Really liking this DEX build attempt, since I've always gone straight-strength before.

Just thought I'd stop in and say that OT title is one of very few that have ever made me laugh out loud

Looking forward to playing this in the future

Faith builds are awesome. Lightning spears do good damage and there are good buffs you can use. My favorite build is a dex/faith build with buffs and chucking a spear or two every once in a while.

Yeah. It drops it down to a standard +5 though.

I'll do that after clearing the catacombs I think.

I went Faith build in DS2, and it ended up being so overpowered, especially with the best lightning spear.

I played DS1 as a ranged/magic user first time around, and my melee-centric experience now suggests that makes the game so much harder. Enemies drop so much faster with a massive sword to the face compared to a volley of magic arrows.

I found DS1 crushingly hard first time, but I'm romping through this time. Haven't had to farm souls or go out of my way to find specific items. And for the first time in a Souls game, I'm keeping my load under 25%. It's a game changer.

This game reminds me how quickly normalised new standards of graphics become. When I loaded it up and seen the textures... yeeeesh.

Not complaining, 60 FPS and I've got the entire series on a modern system now.

So.... I was hoping to get some weapon recommendations. I started with the longsword and it's OK, but it's a tad slow odd the mark and it's annoying how it snags on walls in tight spots. I'm using the Drake blade for fun at the moment as it feels a tiny bit quicker and less snaggy than the longsword, but I know it doesn't scale and will need replacing soon.

My favourite weapon in anything ever is Bloodborne's Sawspear. Are there any weapons with a similar feel? Otherwise, I like onehanders with a bit of reach that aren't too slow.

Look into scimitars id say. Scimitar can be gotten very early from one of the skellies. Falcion can also be gotten pretty early i believe. But curved swords are your best bet for high dps type stuff like sawspear. Also look into thrust weapons like the estoc, its fast and is one of my favourite weapons in any game ever. The noise it makes so so good.

But yeah, curved swords, you can make pretty strong boss weapons through it later too

Are sorcery or faith or pyro builds viable in this? Which is best?

I've always done DEX, in every single Souls game. Want to try something new.

Sorcery is strong for most of the game but personally super boring. It also felt like I unlearned basic souls mechanics when I did my sorcery run because I was just pew pewing at everything most of the time. It gets more involved when you complete your character build but by then a lot of bosses have heavy magic resist. Faith is good support early on and combos well with strength, can't go wrong getting an ultra weapon and making it divine/occult or buffing it. If you go faith make sure to join the sunlight covenant and get co-oping for the offensive miracles. Pyro can be part of any build, it only requires a heavy soul investment to reinforce the flame and a bit of attunement. Fireballs, combustion, and various buffs are its bread and butter.

Cheers bud. I enjoyed the scimitar in previous attempts at the game, but it seems to cop a lot of flack. I hear good things about the falchion, I'll hunt one down. I just picked up the Iaito too. Are katanas good?

So I just killed bed of chaos after three deaths, stupid gimmick boss, then I jumped straight to Oolacile and got my butt kicked by Artorias but oh boy what a fight it was, It's such a breath of fresh air going from the worst boss to one of the best fights in this game.

btw, I remember back in the day on the ps3, Blighttown was my least favorite area but now that the performance is fixed it was not that bad to get trough, Lost Izalith is truly the worst offender, there's nothing fun or truly challenging there, it's no good to look at, it's a f***ng drag actually.

You get the DS literally, like, 20 minutes before Andre though. 10 if you know what you're doing and can rush to him.

I wonder how on earth so many noobs even find the sword in the first place. "Shoot the OHKO dragon's tail for a sword" is not exactly intuitive.
From threads like this? :p

There's a pathing bug if you work you way back up in the great hollow. I can't advance anymore, it's right where the lizard spawns.
There are 9 lizards in there, but I think I know where you mean and there's always been a geometry issue in that spot. You can try rolling over it or walk around it, it seems like you'll fall off but I never have.

Is there no way to remove the co-op/invasion glow like in ds2/3 with ring of the living/Untrue dark ring. We're finding it hard to go back to this game again from little things that are annoying.

is there any guide to making an INT sorcery build? ive never ever tried it in any souls game but im feeling like doing one here
Not sure of any guide, but a pure INT build is about getting spells and upping INT, so free Griggs and Logan asap. Get the bellowing ring and dusk crown asap. Later on you can branch out with INT-scaling weapons like Moonlight Greatsword, Butterfly Horn (Spear) or Velka's Rapier.

Very viable, and very varied if you're creative. There are quite a few support and buff spells so it doesn't all have to be about pew-pew soul arrows or lightning spears from afar. Magic builds are as fun as you want to make them and can be very OP very quickly.

no, you are right...in the remaster you can´t really see where the water ends, it is ridiculous

This is also apparent in New Londo on the submerged bridge that leads to the firekeeper soul in the ruins. Going to the treasure, it is seeable enough, but coming back the bridge might as well be invisible.

Still so bummed out that the Switch version didn't come out yet. I feel like replaying it on a handheld will be more unique than just replaying it on a TV (which I've already done) in 60FPS (which I had thanks to DSFix).

"Summer" is so vague too.

I never parried in Dark Souls... I played Bloodborne a couple years ago and did it all the time.

Just did it today and was doing constantly. Sure makes the game easy!

I didn't think SL60 would be too high for Darkmoon invading, but here I am, no guilty people for the last 20 minutes. Lame. Make sure y'all are buying indictments.
