I haven't seen this many summon signs since PtD release lol. So many Sunbro medals! Forest is active as all hell, hopefully Darkmoon is too.

Best bet for the tail cut on Seath I've found is to wait for him to get close before breaking the crystal, then haul ass while he reacts and smash his tail. It's definitely tricky though.

I'm working on the platinum. I have a handful of weapon upgrades before NG+, but it should be smooth sailing after that. I hate the 'Knight's Honor' trophy.

I have 4 platinums from the series and the collectable trophies are always the worst. If only there was just one for upgrading a weapon to max and then collecting 80 percent of everything else it wouldn't be so mundane.

A question for any and all who can answer.
I've never played this game and really have just heard about how daunting doing so is.
I do not have much patience with games. I appreciate a decent challenge but not incredibly difficult ones.
I thought Bloodborne was pretty damn hard and eventually lost interest.
I should also add that at 43 years old with limited time to play games period my tolerance for a challenge is at an all time low.
So is this game harder than Bloodborne is my pretty straight forward question?
If so I will pass and maybe check it out once it hits PS Plus or XBOX Game Pass.
TIA for any replies.

I would say... no, it's slightly easier than Bloodborne. Having said that, there're points which are far far more unfair than Bloodborne, and because of that it's a more frustrating game. It's also easier to pick-up/put-down than BB, so in a way it depends what you're looking for - if you're willing to play it til you stop enjoying it, and then start something else, do that. However, I totally understand the mentality of "Don't start something if you're not going to finish it", because it's a little like wasting your time.

Finished the game using a BKS. Did Solaire's questline, we clowned Gwynn. Bed of Chaos was the second last boss I fought and I died about 15 times to it sweeping me into pits. What a shit boss. Game is still great.

I tried a pure magic run right after...

Lol

Nah dude. Nah.

Str or dex it will be.

Kind of wondering which one of these two Int builds I made, to go fowards with.

44 Vit and 50 Int. Or the reverse?

I'd say Bloodborne definitely nails the "fair" part of "tough but fair" better than Dark Souls. Dark Souls just has so many cheap, shitty ways to die that feel unfair. Along with the jankier controls, the DS can be an exercise in frustration. However, Bloodborne has the benefit of being released 4 years later and with a bigger budget, so I feel like direct technical comparisons are unfair.

On the other hand, with it's slower pace and wider build options I think DS is a much more learnable game. There are more opportunities to find a build that suits your play style, and you generally have more time to react. I feel like the faster pace of Bloodborne make it a bit more reliant on reflexes and finger dexterity, which may be an insurmountable obstacle if you can't master it. There also aren't as many build options to overcome your own shortcomings as a player.

TL,DR; they're hard in different ways, but both worth playing. Getting gud is definitely worth the feels.

Kill ormsteim first, smough second. Use the pillars to your advantage. If you have a solid shield you can block all of their attacks.

I'm only using the default gear for the warrior class. I've already beaten the game once, so this is sort of a challenge run. Default gear, no kindling bonfires, no summoning. My longsword is +10 though.

Kinda depressing that the run where I decide to stick with the starting weapon is the one where I get lucky with black knight weapon drops.

I don't personally think that Dark Souls is all *that* difficult, especially if you're not putting rules on yourself such as never using summons to defeat bosses. It's a challenging game, but it rarely demands superhuman feats from the player: Dark Souls is methodical souls. I actually find its rhythm to be pretty relaxing much of the time.

Does anyone know if the rare weapons/spells/etc trophies have the same requirements, or do they now include DLC stuff like SotFS did?

The closest you can find is the Flamberge, which is a drop (semi-rare, but not too bad) from the lightning-spewing snakespeople in Sen's. You can also buy it from Shiva of the East if you joined the Forest covenant (he's hanging out in Blighttown near the elevator and sells stuff there).

Farming from the snake people it is! They were already annoying, this just gives me a reason to kick their asses harder ahahah (evil laugh incoming).

Any reason why I can summon but not be summoned?

Also, my first pvp experience is someone trying to grief me with twop.

I'd say that it's in that sort of ballpark and requires a similar investment to get the most out of.

2nd run, first time running a dex build.

I've been grinding Balders for over an hour at 10 humanity with no goddamn swag sword yet.

I can't count how many times I've played this game over the years and I've never once had the swag sword drop.

Can someone tell me why the Balder sword is so sought after? I got a drop yesterday (wasn't farming for it) but I'm just having too much fun destroying everything with my Black Knight Sword. I feel like I got really lucky with drops, although I usually just run around with 1-3 Humanity. I didn't play the original much but it feels like they've increased drop rates.
I also got a Black Knight Greatsword and a Black Knight Shield...

Oh man, tackling a new (for me) Souls game with only a hour or two to spare each night makes the progress feel so slow when for example with Bloodborne I pretty much played through the weekend.

I ended my Saturday session by getting smacked few times by Black Knight in the Undead Parish tower. Then I made some progress into the Parish on Sunday and decided to check on that Knight again before calling it quits for the night. As I YOU DIED again my wife, who had just come to see how I was doing went wide eyed and asked "was that the SAME enemy as last night?"

She thought I had been stuck on that one spot the whole time and was amazed I had kept my cool lol.

It's the best (or one of the) straight sword(s) for dex builds. Complement it with a buff from miracles/sorcery and you have heavy damage in seconds.

Sorceries are horrible in the dlc

What, you don't like being effectively forced to use a weapon that's pure physical???

*Furysword clips Arty for a whopping 50 damage*

*Haul out the old BK sword that I barely remember how to use and deal over 250*

Extremely late response because the thread opened on this page randomly, but just earlier I had decided I wasn't gonna farm for the BSS and go with a longsword instead, and then it just dropped when I killed a guy whose only sin was being in my way.

I have to say, compared to my previous playthrough, Dark Souls with Lightning Spear and Dark Souls without Lightning Spear are essentially two different games.

Man, used this Sunday to progress. I'm beat now but I accomplished so much. Got through Anor Londo and got the Firekeeper back. This Black Knight Halbred playthrough is super fun though. Crazy to have such a strong weapon early in the game, but it was worth it.

Hi guys, first time player here, and I think I have hit a bit of a wall. I have gotten to the Undead Burg/Parish and I can't get any further. I'm at the part where you have to pass thru the tunnel with the rats then have to fight an armored boar. This whole area is a nightmare, I can't kill that boar, he does way too much damage and I can't seem to get a clean hit on his back. I decided to just run past him and eventually cam to an area where I was ambushed by 3 enemies, 2 of them look like really tough knights. Basically I walked out onto a ledge and 2 of em came at me, I backed into the tunnel and one of the knights just appeared behind me and backstabbed me. The worst part about retrying is that I have to get passed the rats again without getting poisoned, which is tricky. I have played DS3 and BB and never hit this kind of wall.

Also I killed a really tough knight earlier that was guarding a chest, the sword he dropped looks decent enough so I might switch to it if I get my DEX up to 18, can I use a greatsword and a shield at the same time?

The Black Knight Sword? You definitely want to be using that sword. It cuts through these earlier enemies like butter. You can use shield with any weapon.

As for the boar: Try backstabbing it!

One of my all time favorites is coming back strong. Unfortunately I heard there are a lot of cheaters on the pc version so I held back on getting it. Welp, l'll just be rocking Dark Souls 3 for now until From will do something about that.

Oh yea? So it's worth getting my dex up then? I was worried that I'd end up switching back to a sword that didn't use dex and those levels would be wasted.

I'm currently using that greatsword and it just melts through everything. It's so much fun. If you want to make it even more OP once you're able to wield it, make sure to read up on "Snuggly the Crow" and get a few Twinkling Titanites from really cheap trades.
I was able to get the sword to +3 just from that.

If you want to avoid the rats, stand in a corner next to the dragon, this'll bait it down. When it lands start running past it immediately, if you time it right you'll probably not get burned alive.

The boar's asshole is its only vulnerable point. Position yourself behind it and jam your sword in there with a backstab. Alternatively, lure the boar into the fire via positioning or the alluring skull item that's on the above archway with the crossbow hollows. A few seconds in the oven will roast it, with you in relative safety.

Hello sir,

Do you not have much patience with games "that are difficult," or do you not have much patience "full stop?"
If you approach Dark Souls "patiently" - i.e. observing things, not rushing in, keeping your shield up, etc. you will not have a terrible time.
Bloodborne is much harder in that respect, because while observation and patience are important, it forces you to be aggressive and this can get you killed if it doesn't click right away.
DS will give you a decent challenge, but only on a couple of occasions does it throw enemies at you without warning, and it will only punish you for putting yourself in a bad situation.
I would not say it's "incredibly difficult." I would save that descriptor for the likes of certain action games on harder difficulties, or "cheap death/gimmick" platformers.

If you still have your doubts, then I don't blame you for steering clear, but it's definitely more forgiving than Bloodborne.
(People who say BB is easier are generally biased due to years of Souls experience.)

I did try to get past him from the halfway point on the bridge, but he breathes fire so often that I can't get any closer.

Oh yeah, this weapon can carry you through the game. The one-handed and two-handed R2's are garbage, though. You will primarily use its R1 attacks.
