This is killer

Gateways-era Morbid worship

I don't understand their logo at all, makes them look like a black metal band I wouldn't check out but whatever floats their boat I guess

I played the shit of their Tyranny album!

Going to plug this now that it's out.

I'm still listening to this and i have mixed feelings because i couldn't give a proper listen in good conditions yet. But is it me or they sound less like Mgla this time around and more like Dissection (Somberlain era)?
I really need to give it a proper listen, my kid just wants to play with his dad, no time for games or music :D :D :D

New Khemmis song on a friday, means there is no doubt in my mind as to what should be song of the day.

Song of the Day:
Khemmis - Bloodletting

The release date for their new album is June 22nd and it can't come quickly enough.

Song of the day

Full disclosure, these guys saved me from euro dance. From Captain Jack to Triumph of Steel.

Fuller disclosure, I still listen to euro dance and techno sometimes...

Hope you enjoy it! I think it's their best work so far. Very heavy and intense. They've matured but never let go of their roots, so if you liked their old stuff I think you'll like this a lot. It's available to listen to on Bandcamp right now if you're curious. Otherwise it's out Friday!

Yeah I listened to it yesterday and really enjoyed it, thanks for pointing out that they returned!

For me, Uada and Mgla don't really sound the same at all. Exercises in Futility and Devoid of Light may cross paths, but older Mgla is slower paced and I feel like Exercises flows in and out of mid and fast tempo where Devoid is more of an onslaught. When I put Mgla in, it's more relaxing where when I hit play on Uada I'm banging my head and ready to thrash. Uada just feels angrier.

To me, this new Uada feels like an evolution from their debut. When I heard the first single, I was a bit disappointed because it did sound like Devoid of Light leftovers at first, but as a whole, this new album feels more refined with nods back to Devoid but still feeling fresh. I'd almost go as far as saying this and Devoid would work well as a double lp.

I'm new to Dissection so it's not engrained in my head yet, but Somberlain is a killer album. I need to give that a spin again to compare.

I didn't even realize Urfaust released a new album.

The LP Christcrusher rex put out of Geist ist Teuful is still my most prized metal LP.

Song of the Day
Since its Memorial weekend, let's pour one for the fallen.

I fell off Iced Earth pretty hard after they fired the ripper. Always thought he brought something new and interesting to their sound (although Barlow is great as always). I really enjoyed the Glorious Burden and their Gettysburg trilogy of songs

Still want to see them live sometime, but they never come anywhere close to me.

I'd post their 2016 tape but it's got a bloody pic of a dead guy on it so here's a recent live vid

Building on that....

What is everyone's favorite metal songs about war? Metallica makes the best songs about war, IMO.
Practically the entire Bolt Thrower catalog. Songs like Lest We Forget and Those Once Loyal have really tragic and thoughtful lyrics.

I also like that they have a song called War and also a song called This Time It's War. You know, just in case you weren't sure.

Checked out this band called Parkway Drive. They sound kinda neat. But a weird mix of symphonic stuff with choirs in between other more panteraesque groovy stuff.

I put Uada in the same vein as Watain. As in, the are both offspring of the Dissection style of thrashier satanic black

Watain is another one I need to get more into. Just ordered the Wild Hunt cuz it was cheap but that thrashy side is what I love now that you mention it.

Speaking of Slayers best album...there was a day I'd have said Reign in Blood but as I've gotten to appreciate their discography, Seasons has become what I feel is their most accomplished work. Right off the bat is War Ensemble just blazing balls and then it ends on Seasons with a nice, mellow outro. Everything in between flows nicely. Its just perfect imo.

I think Hell Awaits is my favorite Slayer album. It's raw as hell, and simply contains my favorite Slayer songwriting style.

On the discussion of Slayer, did the band lose something by slowing down their tempos with Seasons and South of Heaven? Both albums are good but I felt something was lost with the slower tempos.
