Liking the smaller Pixel 3 design. Hope it doesn't get any bigger than the Pixel 2. Would be nice if the just shaved bezel and didn't increase the screen size at all from last years model.

Ah, doubt they do another new UI again when they just changed it? Gesture controls are a good guess. I realize Samsung phones are not for me, so I'm not buying another one, but I'll look out for your impressions lol. Pixel 3 xl or OnePlus 6T is going to be my next phone purchase I guess.

yeah, never really been a fan of samsung performance, but think around note 8 is when things have gotten tolerable and they still have some genuine useful stuff like samsung pay and funky multiwindow stuff. Hardware smokes everyone else away too and camera is solid enough. stylus is dope for quick notes and signing pdfs.

Does make the android marketplace seem frustrating though. Like every new phone out this year got compromises to my note 8.

Seems like all the original rumored features have been pushed out of this year... So from what I can tell it's just gonna be the s9+ with a pen lol.

There's been some voices mentioning a new UI though... Yay?

I'm gonna guess Samsung will do some gesture controls.

Oh yeah. Bixby 2.0 was confirmed!
Darn, if the Note 9 had a 4K display I might have wanted to upgrade for the S9+.

I never thought I'd be someone who would want a 4K display (hell 1080p is just fine for me on a phone), but it's kinda annoying to have this great screen on my S9+ and not be able to stream 4K HDR movies from places like VUDU. I know I can get HDR with streaming places like YouTube and Netflix, but I'd love it for all my digital movies.

It's kinda concerning how Sony has been quiet about the XZ2 Premium. Well I'm sure they have a good reason

Well if random people on the net are to be believed, it's taking longer than expected to get the camera up and running. It seems really good based off the hands on samples we've seen, so I dunno...

Couple of days in with the Nokia 7 Plus now, this is great little mid-range phone. Android One experience is as you expect, perfect. Installed the P beta, and that has been pretty great, I've certainly ran worse first release Android beta's in the past.

The phone itself is snappy, screen looks great, Steam Link runs flawlessly. Camera doesn't compare the the flagships I'm used to, but it is pretty decent. The only thing I don't like is the fact that they put rounded edges in the casing around the screen, because the screen at the bottom doesn't properly align and it doesn't make a nice radius like at the top of the screen.

As for Android's implementation of gestures, it's fine, but I prefer the iPhone gestures. Swipe up to home and up and to the left for multitasking makes way more sense to me than tapping for home (tapping a small on-screen button is not a gesture in my book) and swiping up for multitasking or the app list (I can't count the amount of times I wanted to go to multitasking but swiped too much to go the app list).

Does the XZ premium actually support 4k streaming on all the services?

I know it does for YouTube. Not sure about other

Those Pixel 3 designs are atrocious. I'm ready for something new and for the very first time I can't seem to find anything I'm attracted to...

That sounds pretty good! I've been considering the Nokia 7 Plus as an upgrade from my slowly crapping out Nexus 5X, seems like a good move. Though I'm really unsure about pricing/where to buy one. Seems like a mismosh online, or maybe I'm just dumb and not looking at the right place. (I'm in the US)

I am curious where this is relevant on a 6"(?) screen?
The resolution itself really isn't, but streaming services like VUDU only offer HDR versions of their movies in 4K.

So while I have a nice very high res, HDR capable display on my S9+, I can't actually take advantage of it with any of my digital movies. Unless it's possible to rip (or download a rip) of a 4K Bluray I own and play it with a general media player on the phone.

Like I've said before, 1080p is really all I need for a phone screen, I just wish more digital services allowed for 1080p HDR content.

More days using the op6. Notch is an after thought. Just part of the status bar.

Just got the Mi Mix 2s... Man, what a device! The quality, build and design is incredible.

The gestures are sooooooo good.

Setup everything how I like it but there's a massive fuck up from Xiaomi, get this, they disable Smart Lock and Trusted Agents. Meaning, if you have a Bluetooth device paired to your phone it won't unlock it. This also means you can't "Ok, Google" when the screen is off.

Ugh.

ok google doesn't really work well in oreo though. trusted voice doesn't work half the time.

Good news on the battery % front. OnePlus is putting it back in the next update.

Vudu doesn't permit UHD streaming (either 4K or 4K HDR or even HD HDR) on any mobile platforms at present, including iOS.

Buying a 4K device will not change the fact that only supported devices get HDR, and that appears to be much more down to DRM and business interests than anything else.

How infuriating that Pixel is the one phone I want to own, but Google continuously gives me reasons not to own one. They could have gone down the same route Samsung did, and simply had slimmer bezels, and it still would have been fine, because they could market it as a phone that has a superb software experience, compared to the Galaxy and Note phones' software. I may go with the smaller Pixel 3 or perhaps a Note 9, depending on how the smaller Pixel 3 looks.

I wonder if google going put sensors in the notch so it can be secure face unlock like how iPhone X has it. I don't like that google is just going with the flow, instead of being unique. They don't have anything to lose like most companies that do, so they could experiment.

It's been a while that I download an apk with the Pixel 2 camera (portrait mode) for my Pixel 1 and I have to say that this thing is pure magic. Yeah, every 50 shots one of them will look wierd because AI wasn't good enough, but the rest of the 49, wow, huge difference. I don't know how they look in high res (in case you ever want to print one of them), but for social media they look gorgeous and could easily be mistaken by a DSLR shot. I am curious to see how the Pixel 2 camera compares with the Pixel 1 (using the same apk).

I know, but actually having a 4K screen is probably the first step in actually getting them to consider adding 4K support.

I don't think any iOS devices are 4K either, except maybe the iPad Pros, but I thought even those are some weird in-between resolution.

Alright guys, I sliced my finger on my cracked S7 Edge screen, so it's time to replace it. I'd like to spend no more than $300 on a new unit (I'd prefer not to go used, I like having new tech). Unfortunately I'm on Verizon which I understand really limits my options. What do you recommend? I don't want to go bigger than the S7 Edge if possible, I find the thing a pain to use in one hand.

Its going to be real hard finding a new phone at that price point that isn't a piece of shit like the Samsung J7, especially on Verizon.

It's hard to find it new, but I went from an S7 Edge to a Moto Z Play late last year and enjoyed it quite a lot. Downgrade in the screen res and camera, but for a weaker processor it was surprisingly snappy and the battery life is great.

There's a pair of mint condition Droid Edition (Verizon) ones on Swappa right now for only $190.

It wouldn't be an upgrade but the Moto G6 is $250 and about one of the half-decent phones around that price point that support Verizon. Alternatively up your budget to $350 and you could get a Pixel from B&H, but that's pretty much two year old tech at this point although I imagine it still runs great.

Google Pixel 3 & 3 XL: Built by Foxconn, notch on XL, Verizon exclusive again, dual front cameras

Further, the report says that Google's implementation of the notch will be considerably slimmer compared to Apple's iPhone X, but much taller. Inside of that notch, there will, of course, be a front-facing speaker, but also two cameras. The back, on the other hand, will still only have one camera with Google's software-based portrait mode still available.]

No headphone jack and no USB-C to 3.5mm adapter included with the HTC U12+ is pretty lol-worthy. I'm actually half surprised that they didn't include a notch on the phone.

As others have said, the phone is DOA.

Google genuinely hates money. It's the only explanation for why the Pixel is treated like this.

I'll just keep buying OnePlus I guess.

I would literally buy it, if they just made that the fucking bezel. It doesn't bother me. Doesnt bother me on Xl2 and wouldnt here. But adding it there for no fucking reason makes me consider the benefits of the note like headphone jack and sd card just based on principle.

I just got the OnePlus 6 and though I'm getting more acquainted with the notch, I wish when hiding the notch that it would move the notification bar down one row. I dislike being limited to three notifications cramped to the left of the notch
