The first time I played Dark Souls, I grinded for hours to get a BSS. This time, I am running a Zweihander build (side note: it's fucking amazing), and I got a Balder Side Sword from the first knight I killed in the Parish :(
I actually got 3 (!) while running through the area a few times (waiting to get summoned), but since I was on a STR character I just dropped them for the hosts that summoned me. I thought maybe they increased the droprate, or maybe I just got lucky.

Anyone playing on PC seeing player notes?

Seems like a lot of people aren't seeing any since the patch yesterday?

I just do not know what sword to go with. I'm still early (beat the gargoyles) and I have the Drake Sword. I know it doesnt scale and won't be something I'll be using much longer. I have the Uchi, Claymore and Zweihander. Which of those three would be best to upgrade and keep with for a while. Or I guess even 2/3 to upgrade? I know the Claymore and Zweihander moveset are generally the same and the Uchi is a bit different...

Depends on what kind of build you are going for. Generally I'd say: DEX build = uchi, STR = Clay/Zwei. All are good though, and it basically just boils down to what you like and which moveset you prefer.

I just took a humanity to get back to human form, but there are no summon signs anywhere before or around the Four Kings boss door. Why?

Yeah, I wonder why? : )

Cause the fight is cancer.

Real reason, getting to the fight is a long run so finding a good spot to place a summon sign is tricky and the wait to be summoned can be a while since new players don't know the fight is shit.

Uchi is a Dexterity weapon, Claymore is quality (both dexterity and strengh) and the Zwei is a Strenght weapon. All are viable, try them and pick the one you like / suits with the stats you leveled up.

Claymore / Zwei are pretty different, first is faster and has some different attacks, second is slower but staggers like crazy, and can stomp regular enemies.

Second time playing through this game, and I gotta say that I really love and appreciate the design of Blighttown this tme. You hear so many bad things about it, like the Valley of Defilement in Demon's, but its twisting, oppressive design with tons of things to find, lots of easy ways to die, great verticality, etc. make it extremely memorable. It's been my favorite area to explore on this playthrough. I'm now in Sen's Fortress. Another area that just exemplifies everything that is magical about this series when the level design comes together.

The one thing I'm not liking is the color filters seem really aggressive when transitioning zones, like Blighttown to the Depths, or Blighttown to Valley of Drakes, or Quelaag's domain to the lava zone.

The fact that you can preceed through almost the entirety of Sens Fortress without getting to bon fire is straight up fucking bull shit.

Fromsoft can get fucked.

One thing that really stands out from playing the remastered all weekend is that Dark Souls is the best game From has made. The world design and setting is really so much better than anything else they have done. The only game that is close is Bloodborne.

Sens Fortress complaint:

The ball mechanism seems to follow you around the level, but there's no "operator" there. I've always felt like there should be someone there aiming the mechanism as you go up the initial ramp, and then down the staircase, etc. Even when you turn the mechanism out of the way, it resets to follow you at some point.

What, am I supposed to believe it's some kind of magical, sentient machine??

Did we figure out how weapon matchmaking works?

Is Claymore the best Quality weapon? Any other recommendations?

Magic sentient machine. It's even better when you are doing coop and the summoner has a poor connection. The mechanism just goes back and forth.

How much does the Steel of Protection boost your defence anyway? Should I rather go with the ring that doubles my equipment load?
Use Havel's instead. Steel Protection is trash, there are pretty much always better rings.

Aw man, I am doing my lvl1 run and was hoping to do some light dickwraithing in the undead burg but apparently invading is now related to weapon upgrades as well as soul-level.

rip my onebro motivation
Good. I'm glad From is at least trying to stymie dickwraithing.

I threw away 70k souls on purpose - at Soul Level 35 and have no intention of leveling up any further. It'll make invasions that much faster when I'm ready.

Hanging onto the souls was cramping my style, I almost felt obligated to "protect" my souls ... so fuck that. A suicide fixed that.

https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/8mqxdd/weapon_upgrade_level_chart_for_pvp_matchmaking/

Special weapons (any weapon that doesn't upgrade with regular titantes) starts as a +5 regular weapon level, and get 2 levels per upgrade.

Lol so when I picked up freaking lightning spear my lvl went to +10? Goddamn, I made sure to only have +5. That's fucking stupid. Guess I'm making a new character

It's a meme. google dark souls giant dad

I think the weapon level matchmaking thing is a non-issue, to be honest. In fact... I think it's totally fine?

- You can easily coop with friends using passwords, so no fear of your friend(s) being out of reach.
- It works more or less like in Dark Souls 3, and that wasn't really a big problem.
- It prevents extreme twinking like in the original Dark Souls, and that's a really good thing.
- Most people will pick up a black knight weapon drop, the drake sword, the Astora sword, or some other variant that will put them at WL5 anyway, so early players who do pick up those weapons aren't insanely out of reach just for possessing it; I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of players are among that WL 5 pool anyway.

Personal experience:
- I personally picked up the Black Knight Halberd drop right away, and had no problem invading. I didn't invade in the Parish much (honestly felt too OP, most players could hardly hit back with their +0 weapon), but still found matches, and even at +4 I found non-stop matches in the Depths and Blighttown, and at +5 (so that'd be WL 15 ) and level 50, I find non-stop hosts to invade in Blighttown, Sen's, Anor Londo, Demon Ruins, and Catacombs. Even the relatively early-ish Blighttown still gives me plenty of matches, because most people have the large ember by then.
- By Sen's, near everyone will pick up the Lightning Spear, putting them in the WL10 pool.
- I still see tons and tons of white and golden signs near bonfires and by boss doors.
- I also get invaded semi-regularly, especially by Smurf cops xD Weirdly, it can take some time for my white signs to get picked up, but I think that's just because there are so many signs.

I do think it's dumb that even owning such a weapon limits your matchmaking. If it's stashed in your bottomless box it shouldn't count towards matchmaking. But it's not a big deal overall.

I think they could have make special weapons start at 0, especially to not fuck coop at the start of the game, and have bigger upgrades, like +3 per level. Other than that, yeah it's not that big of an issue.

A really really stupid meme. Ignore it.

:(

I bet you also hate people spamming block emotes when coop-ing :(

Currently level 40 or so, just finished Qualaag.

Zwei +5
Elite Knight Armor
Grass Crest Shield
Havels and FAP

Never felt so OP at this point in the game.

What's a good spot for PvP right now? And what's the PvP meta for DS1 anyhow?

Why is it that bamco couldn't give us the summoning rules, and instead we have to do research for it?

You can try the pvp areas. Specifically the forest.

Got bowled over more times than I care to admit because of this.

O&S down. Time to bask in Gwynevere's chamber while that glorious music plays.

Just got this. On my way home now, hopefully the thunderstorms won't be severe were I live (baaad weather currently in the Netherlands) and I will be able to play tonight.

I played the original, but never got really far. I think I got to just past the Bell Gargoyles.

Is this game still always online? Is it possible to get invaded randomly or do you have to opt-in for the pvp element? If so, I might need to go offline manually when I play. I hated random invaders ganking me in the original.
