Just got this. On my way home now, hopefully the thunderstorms won't be severe were I live (baaad weather currently in the Netherlands) and I will be able to play tonight.

I played the original, but never got really far. I think I got to just past the Bell Gargoyles.

Is this game still always online? Is it possible to get invaded randomly or do you have to opt-in for the pvp element? If so, I might need to go offline manually when I play. I hated random invaders ganking me in the original.
You can play offline, but you won't see player left messages or anything like that. Or you can play online and just not reverse hollowing so as to prevent people from invading.

My eyes...
We got invaded by one of I remember correctly, but never saw him. Looks like some super tank build.

He looks like the burger king.

It's some kind of an OP build (although it was nerfed from his glory days, but still good). That being said if you found it at lower levels it was probably for the looks only.

You can just play as a hollow and not worry about invasions. That way you can see all the messages, etc., but not have to worry about PvP. You can always reverse if you need to summon.

Got by the dreaded archer ledge in Anor Londo with relative ease. Getting a lot of mileage out of the ring of fog!

It's online by default, but you can turn it off in the options menu. If you have your humanity you can get invaded. If you're hollow, no invasions.

Anyone playing on PC seeing player notes?

Seems like a lot of people aren't seeing any since the patch yesterday?

Have you tried starting a new character and/or family share to a new account and see if anything changes?

If you have been soft banned there's nothing you can do except those two things. To answer your question, I tried my PC version last night and I saw plenty of messages all around the Undead Burg.

Sorry, but unfortunately this is the reality of playing DS on PC.

Ugh. I hate wiping and losing the 10 humanity I have stacked up. At this point, that's way more of a loss than the souls. Glad to see I'm still terrible at the stray demon fight...

If you try to stay as near to his butt as possible, he should keep trying the butt slam move, which you can roll away from and get back in for some hits, re-orientate, and repeat. I usually find getting in the first time is the hard part. But once you get him in the pattern it's easy.

It's always online in a sense since you'll always see other people's ghosts, bloodstains, messages, summoning signs and occasional invasions, but you can opt out of all that by playing in offline mode.

However, you can avoid getting invaded specifically by staying hollow, as you can only get invaded while being in human form. You get in human form by sacrificing a humanity, one of the game's currencies, so you can just ignore doing that if you wish to play alone.
Ah right, that's how it worked. Completely forgot about hollow and humanities. Thanks for the quick answers, everyone!

Same thing happened to me. Thought I'd be smart and use the trap against them, and then the guy in front smacked me, and I saw my health go down by like 3/4. LOL I adapted quickly after that, but it was a wake-up call for sure!

Must be how Apollo Creed felt when Ivan Drago landed that first punch in Rocky IV.

I haven't played Ds1 since before Ds2 released and I thought I would be better at the game this time around. The Bell Gargoyles still kicked my ass though, it took me way too many tries to take them out. It was a lot easier when I decided to put a few upgrades into my long sword though, which cost basically nothing since all my failed attempts gave me plenty of titanite shard drops on the run back to the boss.

But yo they dropped the Halberd so I'm feeling pretty lucky! What kind of builds do you guys recommend for a the gargoyle halberd? I was thinking going the chaos upgrade path, but I'm not really sure how chaos builds work

Playing this game and having the excitement from the remaster release has gotten me back into the Souls mood. Can't wait to jump back in.

Hearing the bell chime every 30 seconds in Undead Parish is something else. When I originally played the game, I played offline, so I never heard it.

Chaos (like fire and lightning) removes stat scaling - So beyond the base STR and DEX needed to wield the weapon, it would be useless to invest any more levels in those stats. Chaos also increases in damage the more humanity you have (max 10).

Not a bad option by any means (I'm currently racing through with a Chaos Rapier on my first run) but I would also keep a back-up purely physical weapon for fire-resistant enemies and bosses.

Take note to not get too close to a wall either...sometimes it'll drop an AoE that ranges enough to hit you when you're close behind.

My first experience with it was by surprise, and it did a downward slam on me the second that I righted myself. Didn't even have a chance to move. Just fell, got stomped, simple as that.

Its been a real rude awakening with Ornstein and Smaugh this weekend. I had thought I beat them then quit in the original release. Turns out the had beaten me and made me quit haha. Finally took them down on my lunch break with the great scythe. feelsgoodman.gif

So what would you recommend putting my stat increases into? Should I get some attunement for pyromancies and mostly focus on vit/end?

O&S down. Tricky! Especially compared to those last few bosses. Doubly so because I doubled down on using a UGS. Man, they are slow as hell compared to DS2/3. Switched over to the Man-Serpent Greatsword now and it's like night and day. I think I'll be sticking to this sword for the time being. Strength builds in DS1, not a great time so far. If anyone's got weapon recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

I'm so used to Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne that my dodging sucks and I feel like I am playing like shit. My timing has been really off, especially during boss battles.

Lightning would be far better if you have low stats for a substitute.

Having fun with Astora's Straight Sword, but I'm starting to feel underpowered.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking either Balder Side Sword or the Claymore because I like the thrust attacks. Sort of doing a quality/faith build.

Giant Dad: The legend never dies - Ch. 3

Probably the worst is already done, but damn if those prowler demons aren't hard, you really need fast roll for them. Need to get some red titanite chunks and bass cannon will be complete. Then just a grind up to 99 and NG+

Even with the incomplete build I'm winning most invaders, once I have reach the level and got my black

Man, I forgot how easy the Gaping Dragon is. Still love his design though. I remember being in awe when I first played the game when he rises out of the hole despite the initial cute little alligator head.

I can head to Blighttown now but I wanna go loot gathering. Anywhere of note I should visit before heading to Blighttown?

Man, playing Dark Souls 1 again is so great. The world design and progression are so damn good. It's reminded why it's my favorite Soulsborne. Bloodborne is great, but there is just something about Dark Souls that I just love. I'm having a blast going back through it. Once I platinum it on my PS4, I'll most likely do it again on my Xbone; just like I did for all of the others.

Dark Root Garden and Dark Root Basin have a lot of interesting gear. You can do both before going to Blighttown.

There's no warping to Blightown!? I'm trying to get back to Quelaag's Domain. What is the nearest place I can warp to?

The "chaos" covenant room just past the boss arena (illusory wall) has a bonfire you can warp to. I think all the covenants have warp-able bonfires.

Going to catalogue my progress even though I am way behind most I believe.

This evening's session saw the death of the Gargoyles by my hand and the ringing of a bell. Then I did some exploring and found the elite Knight set.

Good times!
