I guess they're gonna need to build a team to continue the Uncharted IP. Especially if ND is done with it.

I'm down. Let it cook and make it a PS5 Uncharted game. Wew

Yeah, I'm in for it. While the studio itself may not be working on something new, it does free up ND to do other things. It all works out. I'm sure the new studio will get their shot on something fresh down the road. I'm excited to see a new take on UC as well. Especially with the powa of that PS5!

I just wanted to say I've really warmed towards Shawn Layden. His first E3 showing following Jack Tretton's departure he seemed uncomfortable and forced and I was worried for his future performances.

Now he's really gotten into it and is the most authentic seeming figurehead of any of the platform holders imo. He's become really good at playing to the crowd.

I just wish he'd stop doing that self-clapping thing at every stage.

You don't need to worry about Sony losing focus on single player any time this gen or even next gen, they know what they're good at for now.

Fair enough, you mentioned Overwatch as an example so I thought you were going on a killing spree to dash MP games for your single player agenda lol.

Anyway I'm glad our essays are getting shorter, maybe we are getting somewhere after all :p

True. Hope it stays that way. :)

No killing spree here. LOL.

Hahaha. True.

Hopefully it's another Chloe and Nadine romp. Lost Legacy was a blast and their chemistry as leads was off the charts.

Sounds good to get them started with a known IP like UC and slowly build up the studio and then move on to a new IP after that.
Yep, expectations will be high but it at least allows them to have something to start with. All about nurturing them for future opportunities.

The fact that PS5 games are being actively worked on gets me hyped

Here's my guesses on PS5's first 3 1st-Party exclusives:

Horizon 2
God of War 2
Ratchet and Clank (2016 reboot sequel)

That would be fun, Night. Show how this all got started.

The endless Francis and Nathan comparisons will surely be wonderful too.

If they're doing Uncharted 5 or whatever, it's going to look insane on PS5. Whew.

Hopefully though, they target 60fps for the single player campaign. Uncharted in 60fps is a wonderful thing.

Quick question, is there any chance Sony might open to acquire any new studios or are they likely happy with the size of WWS currently?

We don't know - and rarely is that question asked/posed to Sony. It was only recently that WWS was even ever highlighted at a business level in terms of changes in how they potentially operate as Shawn is now full-time WWS.

lol at the rumor :D But if true, I'm ready. Japan Studio and Bloodborne 2? Heck yeah!
And please make a new JRPG or Arc the Lad while you're at it :)
Yup.

Spent quite a bit of time in the long weekend playing Infamous: SS. Even after playing GoW, I am highly impressed by the visuals SP has pulled off in this 2014 game. The rain, rain drops falling in the puddle of water and the reflections. The "2nd" power you get...can't wait to see what they have done with GoT. Would be an amazing looking game for sure.
Yeah, and First Light as well.

Can't wait to see GoT in action.

People are going to be furious if Detroit is indeed doing well. Some of the vitriol that's been spewed in relation to David Cage and that game is absolutely absurd. I understand criticism and scepticism, but this really has been something else.

Good thing the vast majority who actually gave it a chance have found enjoyment in it, even if there is still some shaky stuff. Definitely Quantic Dream's best overall game.

Excellent news! I hope they will use ND's engine, will probably save them a few years and keep the development costs down. I shall finally get my Atlantis Uncharted!! And on PS5 most likely.

After playing, completing and absolutely adoring this game, I just want all these smug babies to have to be totally wrong about its success.

It's a great game, and no amount of their crappy lazy copy paste criticism can take that from it.

I'm down for a new Uncharted only if it's a reboot. I don't want to follow Nathan's side pieces, and that's what all of Chloe, Sam, Sully etc. ultimately amount to. They're fine characters for what they were, but you ain't building a new series around them and selling 8-10 million copies. And with Nathan's story closed, they should move away from everything attached to him. I'd rather they reboot in a different setting. With the name established, it'd be a perfect opportunity to go back to early 20th century. A new lead adventurer, a new cast, and new treasures. Due to the difference in technology, it'll allow them to get more creative with set-pieces again as well as bring a more classical feel to it all.

Who is he? What prior game has he work on?
Edit: oh former ND dev. That's exiting, I do wish it's new IP though. Like maybe one of ND prototype that got passed because ND is busy with U4 and TLOU2

I want another Uncharted. We get plenty of new IP already.

Hey, leads over at that unnamed Sony studio presumably working on another Uncharted, here's a pitch.

Prequel series starring Francis Drake.

How about a sequel starting ****** Drake? I think that would fair better. Prequels suck.

Prequels that is effectively an extension of the same universe without exploring anything substantially are rarely great.

What I proposed though, is effectively a new single-player pirate/treasure hunter action-adventure game that takes place in Uncharted universe, but so far back in time that it's almost essentially a new IP, since other than the way the game controls and the idea of a treasure-hunting adventure, you literally have to reinvent combat, exploration and moment-to-moment gameplay due to the fact that weaponry in those days are stuff like hand-cannons/flintlocks, and is mainly melee with swords and stuff. A pirate game isn't complete without a pirate ship, to exploration and gameplay have to be different, etc etc.

Tldr; I'm basically asking for a new pirate-IP that is borrowing the Uncharted brand name. =P

This is exactly what we mean when we talk about how Spencer is just a good talker by just saying that they are investing in new studios. We heard some rumors about a new talented studio that Sony want to build, and now we see that this is actually happening.

It will be a monster studio I guess. What do I want from them?

1. Please, don't work on Uncharted 5 for fuck's sake! Uncharted is in peace right now and that's great. If there will be a new Uncharted, it should be in Naughty Dog's hands.

2. Make a new IP, or work on The Order/Killzone sequel.
