Cloud gaming could really open up more possibilities on the Switch by not being limited by the power of the console. I'll keep an eye on this.

I knew it, naysayers got their mouths shut.

I am impressed, it's absolutely identical, I just played this yesterday

There's the ever so slight problem of it completely killing the portability. Don't want this setting a precedent. Would much rather a downgraded port like Doom than a game I'd struggle to stream on even my home internet, let alone the kind of wi if you get elsewhere.

What's the input lag though?
Japanese players and reports say input lag is unnoticeable and nearly non-existent. But of course this will depend on your connection and the like. I recall two ResetEra users in non-official capacity, one said no input lag and one said they had input lag, so about what one might expect with such a set-up. I also take it there's good reason this isn't a worldwide thing and Japan only.

It's also disingenuous to post something like this when 90% of people will have internet that simply cannot support this quality of streaming.

The rental system, the lack of ownership, it's all wrong.

Is the DLC included in the Cloud Version? If not how do they deliver the DLC?

Honestly its so smooth and nice, I'm a big fan that RE7 is on Switch for Japan. I wonder if they'll bring it over to US and Europe or rather attempt a native port. Or just not bring it to Switch here at all.

can you (or someone) explain this to me??

what does "not being limited by the power of the console" mean?

if a console runs a game as intended, doesn't it have the power to run it?

what does cloud gaming do in this case?

(geniunely asking I have no idea the process behind cloud gaming/streaming)

Lol seriously, if your ping is anything above 20ms this is probably atrocious

Run the game on a distant super PC, but your inputs go over the internet. Problem is you need good broadband and very good latency.

The game isn't even being served to 90% of the world, this whole thing is Japanese exclusive due to Japan (and Korea) being leaps and bounds ahead in this was than a lot of the world.

It's not as good as it seems. I live in Japan and gave it a shot. The game runs well and looks good (although the image quality fluctuates), however the input lag is pretty bad and is most noticeable once you enter the house and turn on the flashlight. It just didn't feel very organic playing the game like that.. I wonder when this type of service will become truly viable.

It can work for a certain kind of games, mostly ones that don't need quick reactions. I can image that a game like Detroid: Become Human works well.

But I wouldn't want to play doom this way.

I mean, Japan internet infraestructure is vastly better than the rest of the world so no surprise it runs well.

I gave the 15-minute trial a try. I didn't notice any input lag or much stuttering. That said, sometimes the sound would cut off for a second or so. Then again, I don't have a 5Ghz modem so there is that.

OMG it looks incredible.

How? How they could make this game run properly over the cloud? Is there input lag?

I would rather stream the game and pay 20€ instead of having to pay 60€ for every port.

They're just transmitting inputs to the server and an image back to the switch. So the visual fidelity should be the same as if it were running on a PC (since it is running on a PC). Lag will depend on your connection.

Yeah, I got that, but how this is running without hiccups is what impressed me. Hence why I asked about the input lags.

I didn't know cloud gaming was that good, tbh.

Well you can't tell the lag from a video. Streaming the video without "hiccups" has been possible for a long time. You have 4k streaming from netflix without any issues and this is not even close to 4k.

Yeah, but this is a game...

I'm just ignorant, really. Don't bother..

Fiber seems to be readily available within Japan.
This thing isn't just dependant on your routers connection. How you connect to the switch , your surroundings, how good its wifi receptors are on the switch, what is the quality of servers and how far they are from your place all factor into the lag you experience.
Even operating your devices locally through wifi introduces noticeable lag in instances.

Uhhh.... this looks great

Edit: This is RE7 Cloud (Japan only) for those who missed the announcement
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/resident-evil-7-confirmed-for-switch-in-japan-as-a/1100-6459080/

I was watching the video and wondering how the hell was the guy playing the game if you didn't even see his hands on the joycons. I started to wonder if the gameplay image was superimposed on a picture of a Switch, but if so, why was the screen slanted then? You could also see the guy's reflection on the screen, so it couldn't have been that either.

So after a few minutes... DUH, pro controller :P

I'd imagine (not sure) that Netflix can stream sequences of images (i.e. a buffer), unlike games though.

Don't you need a wrist strap for your handheld so you don't toss it across the room when you get spooked?

I mean, it looks like a video of someone playing Resident Evil 7, which is being played on the Switch.

What did anyone expect it to look like?

You can't really get anything by watching these games be played, because the biggest caveat to cloud gaming is the input delay.

I've never had a good experience with cloud gaming personally. Even when I've been to expos and they've demonstrated cloud services streaming from a device that's sat right next to the device I'm actually playing on, there's always notable input delay.

It's not realistic to expect the infrastructure to catch up anytime soon either. Even if everyone had a 20ms ping to their local server that's 20ms of additional input latency that isn't there on the console experience. That's between 1 and 2 frames of delay depending, plus the controller latency, plus whatever comes as a result of the display you're using.

I tried playing this in two different places with good WiFi (work in Tokyo and home in Yokohama) and thought the input lag made it unplayable. This video lacks controller inputs, so you can't tell input lag, which makes it kinda pointless.

Cloud gaming will always seem great when tested in controlled environment.

In real world though the whole experience is ruined when service providers realize they need to run sixteen instances of the game at low quality on one processor to make it worthwhile. Video quality will be pared down to save on bandwidth costs etc. etc.
