I think we can infer that they will get rid of IVs and maybe EVs since there will be no wild battling.

This might have been the biggest disappointment of my whole life. They're finally making a full Pokemon game for home consoles and choose to mess it up with Pokemon Go...?

You haven't had a very eventful life then...

But seriously... They've also confirmed that this isn't the only Pokémon game coming. We're getting another new game next year that's closer to the handheld games. Strangely, GF wanted to beat us over the head by saying that the 2019 title focuses more on "handheld" elements. Not quite sure how to take that.

GO has IVs, so there's no reason to assume this at all.

I think they wanted to make sure that everyone understood that this isn't the direction the series as a whole is going. But you know the internet.

All we know is you get a different starter based on which one you pick. You want Eevee as a starter get Eevee, you want Pikachu get Pikachu.
I have not played pokemon since gen 3. but the way I did it back then was, i got yellowversion, then i got silver and crystal, for some reason and then i got ruby sapphire and emerald all when they launched.

Something makes me want to get both, but if there are barely any differences between them. I will get one

I mean, we know almost nothing about these games so far. Only that it seems to be a reimagining of Yellow with GO capture mechanics. That's it. Everything we know is in the OP of this thread and it's not a lot.

I think I found something juicy.

In the Q&A they stated:
"The controls for catching Pokemon in handheld mode will have you moving the console around and pressing a button to throw; no touch screen, and the gyro part is required."
Which I really don't like, but nevermind that.

If you look at the trailer at 2:16 the first shot after the white screen with all the different device combinations. You will see some kiddo playing in handheld mode catching a pokemon.
You can clearly see that he is yet to throw a pokeball, after which I think you can see him press a abxy button with his right thumb and then a pokeball gets thrown.
Which would mean: no forced motion controls when catching a pokemon!

Also holy shit, this is probably the worst box art I have ever seen.

It looks like someone just took the Windows XP default background, photoshopped a Pikachu and Eevee and a pokeball and called it a day.

Like, wow...

If I end up back in on this, buying digital for sure.

Probably just means more traditional, and using motion controls.

it's just a trailer though. Often times in trailers, people play a blank switch and the video editor superimposes the gameplay afterwards

I think it looks really cute. I want the Eevee one, but Yellow was my first video game ever, so I'll probably grab Pikachu.

I remember reading that too, but didn't see it mentioned in the article I linked. Even so, that may not invalidate their answer about XP from catching. It could just be that they haven't decided how XP from catching Pokémon gets distributed. I'd imagine that's tricky as you aren't sending out your own mons to fight.
Yeah I think that's most likely the case. I'm very curious how the Pokemon obtained in Go will transfer over to these games. I've pumped up quite a team with star dust so their cp is as high as possible. But will that even translate? Time will tell.

It also has only 3 stats instead of 6.
So they wind up doing what they did when people bring Pokemon over from prior gens after the physical/special split happened and the special stat was changed to SpA and SpD: they just add an extra stat and randomize the IVs. It's not like there's no precedent for them handling this sort of thing.

There's probably a CP to lvl equivalence baked into the game. So if a Pokemon is a xCP then it has xlvl. We can already kinda see it in that screen showing off catching Clefairy.

I think they always just push random buttons cause the screen is pasted in afterwards in editing (for brightness reasons and such)

I would be kinda salty if they only did like "oh 5 pokemon are unique to one version over the other"

similar to how i think ninetails was only in one version and scyther was in another? i think. I want to be able to get all of the ones I want in the game.

the people like me that have not played pokemon in over 15 years are happy. i feel like this game is for ppl like me

Honestly, I have fallen off Pokemon around Black and White 2 and didn't even bother to get ORAS despite gen 3 being my favorite....

but I feel like every pokemon game post the DS era has been for "people who have nostalgia for pokemon" and haven't played in years.

NVM I can't read, gyro required sounds incredibly awful. The fuck.

but pokemon was already easy and casual enough. If they really wanted to implement the GO catching mechanic to draw in the GO crowd, they could have just added it on top of the wild battle mechanic. I honestly dont see any benefit of getting rid of wild battling. We could have had both wild battles and GO catching mechanics, and it would have been better

Agree 1000%.

Why not both?

That's usually the only main difference between the two games.

But can you comment on it without being a condescending ass about it? I hope so. Referring to hard mode difficulty setting as some niche gaming thing is pretty silly. Moreover, considering how convoluted and terrible the difficulty implementation was in Black 2, all assertions about how many people would use it is pretty baseless.
I'm talking about nuzlocke because that's what was referenced in the first place. Jesus christ.

i guess it makes sense, i just have not been able to buy the systems after N64, ... anything from GC to wii to ds or any handheld after ADVANCED / SP / the gameboy color i was not able to get.

Now I am on board. But i can see how a lot of pokemon games recently could satisfy the nostalgic itch .. I am finally ready though to get back in after gens 1-3 in games and pokemon anime

Nah. Frankly the only thing I think this game seems to do straight up better than the previous ones is the boxart here. Legendary On a Photoshop Gradient has always been wack.

Ye, last Pokémon I played was Sapphire, almost exactly 15 years ago. This feels like a great way to get back into the series before going in deeper with next year's game.
Yeah I feel like this is literally our moment to jump in.

Kinda right where we left off back then but with new.

I am ready for the visual differences too. Crystal and Emerald were my favorite.

Counter-point: All Pokémon games have bad box art.
