When compared to other fighting games at the time (Karate Champ, Yie ar kung fu) it was pretty good.
I liked both of those games. Karate Champ relied a lot on reading your opponent, and you only needed one hit to win a round. Yie Ar Kung Fu was the opposite, with lots of wild cinematic action. Not sure if the first Street Fighter was better, honestly.

Just got my PS4 copy today. No trouble finding matches and only minimal intermittent lag. Nothing brutal yet.

Tried some casual SSF2T first, won all my matches handily with Honda, so I tried ranked for a bit and I won about 80% of the time. Only one guy really messed me up with Dee Jay. He just kept crossing me up and I had no answer. Other than that, I was surprised at how good I did considering I hadn't touched the game in a good 8-9 years. Pretty much felt like I never left.

Then I tried 3rd Strike, which I also used to be pretty good at. Did not fare nearly as well. A few guys schooled me pretty hard, even in casuals. I've clearly forgotten how to play this game well.

Also my thumb started to hurt after a while, which gave me memories of when I'd play HD Remix for hours and hours when that came out, but that was after several days of heavy play in a row. Now it's happening to me after a few hours. Getting old sucks.

Kinda just shows that technology advancing finally gave us the fighting genre as we know it (SF2 onwards).

I liked all of them. I think the Karate Champ cab with the dual sticks was my favorite of them. I wonder if a modern fighting game could pull off the twin stick controls well?

The thing with Switch is that most people will play off their Wi-Fi.

Netcode could be the most polished and efficient netcode ever and people would still face issues because of that. There's not much to do unless wishing for people with good connections.
I played 3rd strike on the ps3 wirelessly and it never played this terrible. There is something wrong with the lag in the switch version of sf3

Aw yeah. Here's some Diehard GameFan coverage of Alpha 2 -- Arcade / PlayStation / Saturn.
Maaaan thank you for this.

Had a one hour commute and spent most of the time reading those and remembering how cool video game magazines where back then.

Switch copy arrives tomorrow and a friend borrowed me a PS4 adapter for my HRAP Kai until my MagicNS arrives and I'm fucking pumped to jump back into the Alpha games.

Now to buy an ethernet adapter for the dock, to maximizes chances of having good matches.

Played the Switch version online with a wired connection(got the official Nintendo LAN adapter) and yeah, it seems like most people are playing wi-fi since I haven't have a really smooth match outside of maybe 2 outta 6-8 matches and I've play around 12 3S matches and about 6 ST matches. ST matches were pretty okay from what I felt but I had lag issues with 3S mostly.

So figured out why xbox360 setting on my stick wasn't working on PC, big picture mode. Disabled support for controllers through it and it works fine. Yay I have a start button!

I'm using a Hori RAP v3 on my PC for street fighter 30th, mapped the buttons and controls to the stick, but it doesn't seem to register more than one command at a time. So for example I can't jump forward only up, no hadoken either. Is there something I'm missing?

Check your DP/LS/RS switch.

According to steamcharts there is only like 663 people playing on PC atm. Main reason I don't buy fighters on PC.

People gotta learn you never buy fighting games on PC unless it's cross play. lol

PC is fine for now. Everyone just seems to be playing 3S. I get matches near instantly.

I vividly remember a friend gifting me the 15 year anniversary collection with that nice limited edition digital controller when it released.
This is the 30 year anniversary.

I think this is the first time I think about being old(er) :(

Hm, so torn on this. I've got that 20% PSN code to use up. Any announcements on any upcoming patches to fix some of the issues I've seen?

Yeah, Turbo's Arcade Mode is bonkers. Even on the easiest difficulty it's still fucking hard. Alpha on default difficulty is easy in comparison.

Except if you want to play the best version. It's a pity people are stuck in this mindset that console is the best version in fighting games when stuff like T7 etc have proved this wrong.

No point finding matches if it's going to be a stutter mess.

Same goes for ArcSys games, the player base isn't as big but the netcode is always better. Yeah, you can't just go in whenever you want and get matches all the time. That can be a big negative for some, but I just ask people on twitter or discord to play. Changing the game's video settings can improve the online delay in some games, too.

I do that for any fighter, though.

I'm totally importing one of these Hori joy-cons in July.
I completely forgot about this joycon!

Just call Amazon and tell them you were trying to get the pre order but the site would just not process the transaction and tell them u want the pre order code.
They'll probably give u one.
Amazon customer service is that good sometimes.

Good call! I emailed them tonight and they got back to me saying my code will be sent when it ships, and if it doesn't just let them know and they'll provide one.

I was just going to forget about it lol, but I'm glad I took your advice, thanks!

damn playing this on the switch makes me want a Vs collection it would be perfect.

Sure would be nice if consoles this gen were BC in a way that didn't cause licensing issues. I wouldn't mind booting up MvC2 every once in a while for some low-tier matches.

Honest question for those playing 3s. Who here kept their old consoles plugged in to play 3sO? I did. Pretend fightcade didn't exist.

This was a bug in the US and EU Arcade Version that was never fixed. The JPN release of SSF2T didn't have this problem. The issue was also fixed in SF Collection for the PSX and Saturn.

Apparently the difficulty setting was a rollover into a negative value which always defaulted into a ridiculously high value regardless of what setting the game was on.

Why this was never fixed after each subsequent re-release of Super Turbo since the first console release part of the SF Collection is baffling. I'm sure Coin-Operated Arcade Owners were pleased since the stupid hard AI made it easy profit gains for those that played the game in a single player / arcade mode.

Hey...I also found their review of Saturn SF Zero 3.

Damn, I really want this version so bad for my Japanese Saturn+ 4MB RAM cart, but Saturn Zero 3 is so F'ing expensive.

Do we have a Switch Scrub Crew setup yet? I was thinking we could rotate games every week and pick one to just dork around on. I never really played anything other than SF2, and it was whichever cart we had for the SNES. Would love to get the chance to learn the other 3 with people.

I cannot fucking stand not having 3P/3K. Digital Eclipse seriously needs to stop getting hired.

Yeah, it's making ex moves a little harder than I'd like on the Switch's tiny buttons. I assume the chances of it being patched in are 0?

Bought this game the other day and the PS4 D-Pad is killing my thumbs.

I'm definitively gonna need to invest in a game pad or a arcade stick for this game and FighterZ.

they had to be held at gunpoint to fix HD Remix, and to my knowledge they never touched MvC2 after release day

we'll be lucky if they even send a tweet at this point

EDIT: oh my god i was just joking with that last line, but I checked their twitter and they have made one tweet this month only

the last time they tweeted with any regularity was in fucking december 2017

Not having any issues. I don't even have that hard of a time with current versions ASW games and they usually hover between 100 - 250. I will say UNIEL is hard to find a match because it's usually under 100. Hopefully when UNIST is released on PC the number will get higher.

Is there any way to get lobbies working on PS4?

Me and a friend got stuck in a perpetual loop of readying up and we weren't able to find eachother on casual match as we kept finding others first.

It's why I'm waiting for the Japanese version of this game from Capcom of Japan that'll come out this fall.

Link.

They (CoJ) have a good track record of collections like this in effort & in quality.

Capcom of USA however, is just lazy, as when it comes to collections like this, Mega Man Legacy Collection 1, & the Disney Afternoon collection, is outsource them to low-tier emulator developers such as Digital Eclipse/Backbone Entertainment & let them do all of the work.
