I thought this was an interesting little move out of the blue. Capcom Division 1 is starting a podcast, starring Pete Fabiano and Matt Walker from Capcom (both are people who have worked for Capcom for years and recently became producers at the company, Matt was a programmer originally while Pete was a voice director originally but did a few roles, and many Resident Evil fans may recognize as he was the model for and did the voice of Pete of the Sewer Gaters in Resident Evil 7). The podcast seems to be focused on sharing the stories from developers within Capcom and to share more exposure on people who make games.

If you don't know what Capcom Division 1 is, they're the 1st primary studio at Capcom, they most famously work on the Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games.

It's not clear how regular this podcast will be, but they released a small 'teaser' episode and say the first full episode will "hopefully" be ready on June 8th. Guess to see what comes of this, it's very unusual a game developer starts a podcast, especially a Japanese developer (Capcom Division 1 is in Japan even though the two people running this are English speakers). Curious what might come of all of this!

Thats great , Hoping for some cryptic teasers in that podcast for what they will show in E3
While I think many will, I'm taking it on face value since I legitimately am interested in just hearing developer stories. Game developers often don't get any spotlight behind the scenes, I'm sure there's some very interesting stories to be told in a company like Capcom, where some people have been working there for 20-30 years even.

This is super cool. I hope they get into the nitty-gritty of development. I doubt there will ever be new announcements on something like this. I think it will be more about them talking about decisions from previous projects, for example how division 1 decided to go first person on RE7. Those types of topics would turn this into a must listen.

Cool, Loved the Bionic Commando podcast, and the Capcom-Unity podcast wasn't bad either.

Ben Judd had a podcast while he was at Capcom Osaka way back in the day (Top Secret: A Bionic Commando Podcast). It's not like this is without precedent.

Also there's a Monster Hunter podcast but it's all in Japanese.

I think this and the whole Div 1 Twitter account exist thanks to Matt and Pete. A great way to stay close to the fans, and Capcom really needs it.
I get the sense too. I know Pete became a producer recently, and Matt I'm not as certain about, but this Twitter and Podcast surfaced recently after at least Pete's promotion, so I am certain it's Pete and Matt who've made Capcom Division 1 more public and with a face recently.

This is where I'm at, I doubt this is the venue where they'll spill company reveals, but probably a lot about people within Capcom. I think there's a lot of interesting potential for this even with just developer stories being shared from people within the company and talks about past projects Capcom worked on.

This seems interesting, and I'm subscribed. By the way, without wanting to go off-topic, is this something new for the games industry, or are there other dev-led podcasts out there that I have missed?

I knew about the Monster Hunter podcast (though to my understanding it's more similar to those talk shows Japanese do than about the company stories or anything like that itself), but not the Bionic Commando podcast. What was that one about?

I get the impression this one is focused more on stories from within Capcom and some development stuff, assume the Bionic Commando one may be similar? I admit I'm happy this one is being done in English unlike the MH one, but I'm all for seeing what comes of this in a week's time I suppose.

There's some studios who do podcast, but I'd need to get more into the nitty gritty to give a definitive answer. I will say an English podcast from within a Japanese studio, and one as note-worthy as Capcom, will probably have a lot of interesting material to work through at the very least.

Hope they can share even a little bit on what happened with Deep Down and Phanta Rhei development

Both projects went into the dark without the slightest detail available

Will listen. Always curious about how do these guys work.

Also, saw an interview with the re7 devs that during the developing of the game, a dev flied to America and throughly walked a mansion to prototype the ingame environment. They sent him because he's an American. Wonder if it's the same guy.

Isn't Div 1 doing pretty much everything except Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Dead Rising and their MMOs?

I hope they discuss how Capcom is one of the companies that most milk past franchises without actually releasing past franchises new games

Next podcast is after e3. So you know they're gonna be talking about the people behind the games which are revealed.

I'm happy for this since one of my biggest complaints at capcom is it's hard to keep tabs on people. So learning more about them is great. Really adds that special something. Could see them approaching that with the docimentaries on RE7 and Mon Hun World. The people behind the scenes deserve more exposure.

At first I figured this had to be a Tim Turi joint. Maybe he'll be on some point when visiting Japan on business

They're focused on global titles like RE, DMC and Okami. Fighting and online games are Div 2, and Div 3 are Monster Hunter, Ace Attorney, Mega Man and Sengoku Basara.

First episode is up!

Haven't finished listening yet, but this episode has Pete and Matt joined by Miguel and David, the senior manager of global production, and senior English editor, respectively. I'd assume there'll be lots of localization talk, so if that's something you're into (as I definitely am) should be pretty awesome!

The show notes mention that there was an issue this week and the audio quality is lower than we should expect in the future - so just be ready for that.

No Brett Elston? He'd been great on Laser Time and loved seeing him on the Street Fighter/Kenny Omega promo that was just released.

Nice to hear Miguel, I have good memories of him in the Bionic Commando podcast.

I was expecting something different for the first podcast, specially with how close E3 is but nonetheless interesting podcast.

I really respect what both Pete and Matt are doing for Division 1.

It's not only allowing the developers to have more than a glimpse to talk directly with fans, but also sharing golden stories about gaming development, which has always been a nebulous area for the general public.

Can't wait for the next one.
