Have you guys watched the new episode of Toys That Made Us on Netflix about LEGO? It's super interesting stuff. A lot of it was stuff I already knew, but there were some really interesting tidbits of info about lines/themes/shows I had NEVER heard of.

dangit i guess it's time to start trying to build bricklink lists to imitate all the rejected seaside buildings

yeah there's no way there's enough of us who'd buy an entire series of seaside buildings to actually support such a line. i knew i'd have to make imitations of the rest if i wanted more. this is just a reminder.

i think they even rejected the boat repair shop in a previous list so it's not really a surprise that this batch didn't get picked either.

For anyone a fan of Bioshock, this is a nice big nod to the series through promoting some Lego material:

Speaking of Technic...

Suggestions on what sets to buy to "get into" Technic???

How about the 42053? Couple of builds, has pneumatic functions to make it more interesting. And not too expensive.

Edit: If you want to start smaller, maybe the 42074? I've been considering that because it looks like it would display well too!

It's tough...Technic has become rather expensive, focusing now more on models, licenses, and looks, rather than technical marvels from several years ago. But it's what the people (adults, anyway) have asked for.

The new Hovercraft model looks like a nice compromise of price, functionality, appearance, and has a truly different 2nd model build.

The Bugatti is impressive, but I can't say I'm in love. I guess that the busy look of Technic just doesn't lend well to real life models, but I do prefer how the 911 looks. Also, and again, a lot of the cost goes into guts with low playability and low visibility, for the sake of spec sheet engineering.

Overall it's a nice high-end collector's item.

I think that the 42065 has really good value for money, especially if you're also meaning to dabble with power functions. Nifty little set with loads of playability.

Although I think I personally would appreciate one of RobbenAnne's builds more, I think they chose a good winner. Big sets are expensive, and as Lego already have a few lines where they continuously release big builds, I believe it is good that they allow ideas to be made up of more varied sets that you wouldn't get in any other line.

Those RobbenAnne's builds more or less "break" the Ideas rules* ;) so it is just logical that they are not chosen otherwise they would just create more chaos what is enforced and what not. And one could rename it from "Ideas" to "Sequels" :D

The OFS was announced as official set in October 2016, he had to know it was chosen for weeks if not months before that (like JK mentions in current video) One of those 3 was added September another next January. Not only in disregard of the rules, but also a wasted income potential for him as he should have expected 3 sets won't be made to Ideas in such short time.
Instead he could have kept the designs, cleaned them up for current part use and sell instructions online riding the interest in OFS. Which he now can't do as LEGO owns rights for the submissions for next 3 years... a waste for him and the fans too.

*"Don't base your project on a licensed property we currently sell, or a property that entered our portfolio through a previous LEGO Ideas set." "If the LEGO Group releases follow-up products based on the same original concept or licensed property, we produce them ourselves." "Please don't submit projects with description suggesting the first product in a proposed series, or anything that implies your project intends to be more than a single, stand-alone set." ...

Yeah it makes logical sense both that they weren't eligible and that lego isn't willing to go all-in on a seaside village creator expert line.

i'm still gonna fanboy over adorable nautical things tho :P

Has anyone found the Antman set in stores? They shipped today but my local Target and Walmart have none.

I wonder how LEGO would enforce the "we own the design for the next three years".

And RobbenAnne still have another project from the same line on Ideas, plus his website says he is working on another three.

Edited: to be clear, I agree with you on all points, just a waste of ideas...

I drove by Toys R Us today because I had some free time, and they had a big sign out front that said "40-60% Off Storewide" so I went in. Of course, the LEGO sets are only at 30% off, but they were already pretty well picked over; most of the Star Wars, Ninjago, Creator, City, DC and Marvel sets were gone leaving bare shelves; what they had left, were the big $100+ sets and the sets that were already marked clearance at other stores.

I ended up getting the Creator Winter Vacation set and the Justice League Anniversary Party set.

The Bugatti should show up in regular stores and be discounted, just like the Porsche.

But I don't see how it's not a technical marvel? I saw a picture of the gear system, it's insane.

Hrm still deciding on what to get tomorow morning for that freebie. Seriously considering destinys bounty. But detective office would take up less space and be a more satifying building experience probably. I also already have 2 other modulars. Pirate roller coaster looks cool but its too much space. Hrm

What is it with that Chiron hate ?

It is a supercar and a licensed one. The previous ones had the same functions - fake engine, gearbox, powertrain, steering, suspension, spoiler ... which are limited by the original.
Based on these limitations it is missing what ? Movable seats of it's predecessors ? Such a crucial feature...

It has the most complex official gearbox so far, 8+R (not a 8+8R like Porsche), just look here on the schema
https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/in...-chiron/&page=85&tab=comments#comment-2975819

It is expensive, has it's quirks, has it's target audience.
If somebody likes it and realizes what he pays for, the whole "Avoid like a plague." drama is just totally not needed.
It is more ridiculous to think that there will be many fans buying this for the parts and complaining about the blue color... independent from color, most of them will stay assembled on the shelf/table/...
It did not take any slot from the more universal Technic set - this same year the biggest ever "normal" set - the All-terrain crane will come.

As for the original question. I was about buying it "now".
The answer is that unless a total fan or having some special occasion upcoming it is worth waiting at least until August when it should come to retail. That should be instant -10% if not -20% when some common sales come...

For me it seems like the Bugatti is a way less attractive model of car than the Porsche is to the general public (in brand-name terms), and the Technic version is retailing for £70 more than the Porsche is. Ignoring the part-count and the model itself, it just seems like it'd be a spectacularly hard sell when you consider that they couldn't even shift all the Porsches they made, which are still available now with £100+ discounts and still sitting on shelves un-bought.

I can't imagine needing to pay much over half-price for this if I just wait unless they make significantly fewer of them.

Lego Minifigs aren't indestructible . :(

This is what's left of Amelia Earhart (custom minifig). Didn't latch my dogs crate properly last night, and this is what I found next to her bed. I know it's just a little toy figure, but I'm still upset.

Ive been eyeing the Bugatti since it came out and its a set i do want to pick up. I think though since ive been wanting the Porsche for a while (911 is one of my fav cars), ill pick that up instead and wait for DP on the Chiron. But considering the price of the 911, 50 bucks more for 1000 more pieces is a decent deal.

The Bugatti appeals to me way more than the Porsche, which I frankly found pretty ugly with all the gaps and the orange color.

But I have no interest whatsoever in Technic anyway.

I bought a few Technic sets this weekend. It was not a cheap few days.

I'm also going to snag the 911 before the Bugatti. I think having more Supercars is a good thing. Just going to wait until my wallet recovers.

Trying to decide what huge set we're getting for a special occasion. are any of ninjago city, destiny's bounty, or detective's office not long for this world?

Picked up a new display buddy for my Porsche.

I'm going to take this build pretty slow, and probably drag it out for a few weeks. Halfway through Bag 1 today so just basic structural base building. But as an obsessive car fan, it was a must buy and I'm totally happy with my purchase.

For Chiron builders - take care when assembling the gearbox and playing with it before finalization.

There are 2 sides of the gearbox - first is a HI-LO multiplier and the second a sequential 1-2-3-4. The sequential one hits the edge gear it engages or disengages the multiplier one, for example 1-2-3-4-(switch to HI)-5-6-7-8-(switch to LO)-1-... But, if you don't take care when merging them you can end up with 1-6-7-8-5-2-3-4 like on some reviews :D

I saw the video on EB about that. Seems like a strange mistake. I have to believe it was a printing error and not a modeling error?
