I'm at 89% completion and I think I've hit my first wall.
I've figured out the sprinkle combinations to access the juicer and the queen bee, but I'm short 1 sprinkle so I don't think I can get passed the red guys who say you need their garb. I have six Wickerlings left to get and they all seem to be in spots that require a special jump that I don't have, same with a couple chests. I have delivered all the packages so I have the Grand Postmaster Badge, but I can't figure out how to use it. Can someone give me a nudge in the right direction?

Edit: figured out how to get passed the red guys at least, but now that I got the medallion I'm stuck again.

Edit: Nevermind, I think I'm good. I JUST now realized that you can determine which way the slug shoots you. =_=

I could badly do with GPS in this game. When I'm unsure where to go I find myself wandering the map, but I then get stuck and can't remember the way through.

I thought to myself every time I saw this game
"pinball as a main mechanic? you'll never get me buying this"

Then you guys had to be all positive and stuff, thus here I am pinballing away.

Whew, finally got 100%. What an awesome game. Probably my second favorite game of the year so far, after Into the Breach.

And every single time I get disappointed.

At 96% now, so I believe I only miss 3 Wickerlings to complete the game. And I really don't know how to solve these.

* Is there one Wickerling for the Postman Badge reward? It seems that I miss some mailbox (but I really can't figure out where). Is there a way to see the empty mailboxes on the map?

The other 2 that I can't figure out are:
* The one at the top of the hamster's nest in the snowy area (in the "factory"). I have tried both making noises and using slug explosions,
* One at the slugman's mailbox (to the left of the treestump house). It's just completely empty on the ground were the Wickerling marker is placed.

Any hints?

BTW, found out what the gorilla was used for now. Great side quest that was so coherent with the game design.

Wow, thanks. The issue is you can't control how many times you bounce on the bumpers after getting the slug, you got lucky with only 1 bounce, and still did not even have time to setup the angle at the end (you got lucky with that 2nd explosion too).

I modified the approach a little bit, and this seems more reliable:
Pick up two slugs. When you are supposed to hit the bumper, explode one slug there (that seems to consistently make you pass the bumpers. Proceed on the upward route and only one spin over the chasm. You'll then have plenty of time to align the explosion over the lava.

What's the deal with that area that shows up randomly that's counting up and brambles are being removed? I finished with 97% and never figured it out. I also don't think I ever did anything with the Ape statue.

Those are actually connected. That area that shows up is available somewhere on the map, with a somewhat hidden entrance..

So my next game is probably this or steamworld heist.

I know they're different but I'm torn between which one to get first.

Bought it yesterday because many people in this thread praised the game and I agree, it's awesome!

Both are excellent games! If you're in the mood for something new for indie Metroidvanias,Yoku's Island Express is just joy and fun incarnate. Steamworld Heist is a fantastic Turn Based Strategy game that's very much worth your time too! The shooting mechanic when you fight is awesome and is much more complex than you'd first think. Heist is a longer game, but I'd definitely check out Yoku at some point for how fresh it feels!

Finally 100% this game. Felt so fucking good. I was really curious about the egg, that was the motivation. A couple of the chests and winkerdinks were really a bitch to get. Thanks to those in this thread who helped, as there seemed to be literally zero resources elsewhere.

For those who have completed this to 100%: do you roughly know how many hours you put in? Does the game explicitly record your completion time alongside your percentage? And is there much flexibility to explore the game in different orders or break the intended sequence, or is this pretty much a one-and-done affair where you feel like you've seen everything?

How do I get into Village of the Unders for the first time? I feel like I'm missing something obvious but nothing I do under the water does anything.

I've found the
guardians of the god egg
but can't for the life of me remember where they were. Could someone take a photo or screenshot and show me on the map please?

It just shows completion percentage, not time played. I would say it feels one-and-done, but I find myself wanting to start a new game just for the hell of it.

I'd guess a play to the credits would range between 4-10 hours, depending on how much side quest and stuff you do. Getting 100% is really tricky IMO, and without help it could easily take 20+ hours.

I'm at 97% and have no clue how to solve 2 of the things I have left. During my time with the game, some things I needed help with, some I solved after quite a long time of trying. The point is, that to me the game feel really fun to play even when I tried to get a single chest for 1+ hour.

No screen shot, but
the egg is about 25% from the right side of the island, pretty far down. You should see the egg on the map if you've been there.

Loving the game so far, but I'm not a huge fan of the swinging around the flower ability. I struggle to control the direction of Yoku and end up flinging myself off miles away.

It comes to you with time. I thought it was impossible early on but now that I've beat the game I've suddenly become an artist.

I think I'll know my approximate completion time in a few days when my Switch decides it's time to tell me my playtime, but I'd say around 15 hours for 100%. You can definitely go off the beaten track before the story tells you too. I got at least one ability before I needed it and you can make some decent headway in the third main area before you need to go there. The game definitely encourages exploration. I totally recommend it.

So is this the next "Golf Story" moment on the Switch? Loved that game and since I love pinball the praise is giving me similar vibes.

The similarities to Golf Story is that is use a specific mechanic to advance in the game, the chill atmosphere, and perhaps the humor. But personally, I see bigger similarities to Breath of the Wild (the free exploration, how clothing work) or Battle Chef Brigade (mixing different game components that shoudln't work, but they do). Artistically, it feels like Ori or Rayman Legends.

But OTOH, Yoku is very much its own thing.

About how long does it take to beat the game? Looks fun and looking for something to play on the side.

Got this today...and promptly forgot that I had to shock the pool before dinner with the gf's family. Whoops.

Excellent game. Can't believe how much fun I'm having. In the Celeste-Golf Story-Minit tier of indies that put most AAA games to shame.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Just from this information alone I can see where the comparisons to SteamWorld Dig 2 are coming from, at least in terms of scope.

Am I right to get the impression that 100% completion is more about already knowing where the last objective is, but not how to reach or solve it, rather than combing the map for the one spot you missed? If so, that is a point in favour. I adored Dig 2 to bits but the one thing about it that didn't sit well with me was that the last one or two collectibles came down to sweeping every corner of the map rather than something more cerebral. Generally, when you get near the end of a big collection goal in a Metroid-like open map structure, I find it more interesting to be stumped on "how?" rather than "where?"

Exactly. You can find items that will show you where things are, but you will have to figure out how to get them, which can be tricky. Great username, btw.

Truly loving the game. I do think I might not have paid enough attention. I freed the one boss with the steam so far, but I swear someone earlier on mentioned a way to become heavy in order to get the stuff in the water but I cannot remember where. Was it the character that lets you change your ball color? If so pretty sure I remember where they are.

So is the whole point of the game you can do the "bosses" in any order? I feel like the game told me to do the one towards the top but I wound up doing the other one mentioned above first?

Or is it I am asking stupid questions, and I just need to play the game and explore it on my own as that is the whole damn point?

Love this damn game though. Kind of wish I had not started playing it as it is taking away from Detroit Become Human which I am also enjoying, but on a completely different level.

You can take at least 2 bosses in any order that you want, as long as you've found the ability that unlocks the path. (I started with a different boss than you.) Not sure about the 3rd. The same is true for the other side quests you have unlocked on screen. It's a bit like BotW in that aspect.

I accidentally ended up in a barrel and sequence-broke my way to the other end. I didn't have enough fruit to activate the platform so I came off ot, problem being to get back on you have to have the item that got you there the legitimate way. And there was no other way out.

Took me ten minutes to make this jump https://twitter.com/mattgperry/status/1003180448338534400?s=21

You can always use the return-to-the-previous checkpoint feature (I used it quite a lot in the post game, when I failed on the trickier Wickerlings). And BTW, the barrel is not the only way out from that spot. :-)

Ah yeah like an idiot I rolled over a checkpoint before I realised my situation. I did look around but most of it seemed shut off until you had the flower animal thing.

The games so good. I've got a load of shit to do today and all I can think about is playing more. I think most of it is how satisfying it is to control, they've really smashed the blend of mechanisms.

Just finished (critical path only) on PC. What a charming, creative little game. Who'd have thought that a Metroidvania pinball game could work?

I'll be keeping an eye out for Villa Gorilla games in future. What a great debut!
