Been killing at the black knights and killed havel. Beat the bell gargoyles and am at the blacksmith. I've played this game before when it was out but completely forgot what to do with the fire keeper soul and when you read it tells you it strengthens your estus flask so what the fuck do I do..I consume it. Fuck me. Fuck From Soft too.

I'm prerty sure I did the exact same thing when I first played it and then googled it after the fact.

Got my Bandit Knife at +7, Iaito at +10 and my bow at +5. Don't really know if the latter is worth it in terms of damage, but I got enough green titanite shards to let Frampt chew on and convert into normal titanite shards, so I figured why not.

Did a quick run through the entirety of Undead Burg. Feels so good to finally one-shot those shitty dogs with my Iaito.

Once you figure out her patterns she's pretty easy to cheese. The other night on a whim I started a new run and went straight to Quelaag while 2-handing the zweihander naked. If you hug her side and quickroll through her sword strikes you don't have to worry about much.

The worst part of the fight was being poisoned all throughout from the run there
She definitely gave me a crash course in the art of rolling through attack.

Movement really is key with a lot of bosses so far. When I see my character move in and out of range, to the left and to the right, keeping track of environmental hazards as well, it feels like I'm dancing. And the first failed attempts at killing the boss are nothing more than learning the steps.

Of course you still need to pick the right dancing shoes. With the Bandit Knife I would've been dancing all night. With the Dark Knight Sword... less so.

Is it me or did they reduce the number of hits on the tail needed to get the gargoyle axe from the bell gargoyles? I'm thinking of using it for my pyromancer. Should I go for the Drake Sword if they reduced hits needed for boss tail weapons?

Rang the first bell and heading into the skeleton area. Were the skeletons always so hard to kill (taking several hits)? Str 20, End 21 using basic sword.

I think I am doing this wrong.

I think the internet and Souls community is pretty unanimous about Bed of Chaos, haha. Worst fucking boss in the series by far and it's not even close.

Confession time: I don't think I ever beat Bed of Chaos on first try without dying without using the reloading trick. Even with using the reloading trick I tend to die anyway. And I have never, ever managed, to my recollection, to successfully dodge the branch swipe attack. I have no idea how to i-frame through it, or if it's even possible (but then how do you NOT get it by it, if you aren't using a shield?). If you can i-frame through it, well, I just never ever got the timing. I just always either get pushed in the hole, or if I survive, I stand back up from the annoying knock-back, Estus, and continue moving, and take another hit if I have to. lol.

And fuuuuck the run back to this boss. What a coincidence that the very worst boss of the series, also has the longest run to it from its nearest bonfire? Even using the Izalith shortcut it's a slog (it might actually be slower than the run from that hidden bonfire? I haven't timed it though) and the Titanite Demon on the bridge gets in the way a lot, even running past him he often gets a hit on me from behind. Gah. I might be a Souls vet but I think I died like 4-5 times to Bed of Chaos last night, DESPITE using the reload trick; 1 time on the way to the right-side shield (got pushed into a hole because of course), and the rest trying to make it to the center branch and getting pushed into the pit by that branch swipe... the only time I wasn't pushed was because it did the firestorm attack immediately when I landed instead of the usual swipe attacks, so I ran around the fire pillars and managed to drop down on the branch safely.

Interesting. That's wild. I thought it did. So for Souls only scaling effects damage out, not the stat number itself?
I'm not sure I follow. By "scaling", I refer to how much your stat(s) affect your weapon's attack rating. Every weapon has a "base" attack rating, and most of them, but not all, have additional attack rating bonuses from your stats, which varies depending on scaling. For example, A scaling in dex on a weapon will give a substantial attack boost to it the higher your dex stat is (with diminishing returns usually after 40-50 in that stat). D/D scaling in dex/str will give minor boosts based on your dex and strength stats. S scaling on intelligence means it's probably really good for magic/intelligence builds. And so on.

Some weapons, however, have zero scaling, and only base damage. The Drake Sword is a good example of that. It has no scaling of any kind, no matter how much you pump your stats the weapon's attack rating (and consequently, the damage dealt, obviously) will always be the same no matter your level. The same is true for elemental weapons; all weapons on the lightning, fire, and chaos upgrade trees do not scale with stats whatsoever. Chaos-path weapons DO scale with your soft Humanity, up to 10, so you will do better damage at 10 humanity than at 0, but fire and lightning weapons don't even have that. They are the same as the Drake Sword. So they are pretty strong at lower levels because their base damage is pretty high, but at higher levels, a weapon that will scale with your main stat is pretty much always a better option.

Sinh is absolutely better than Kalameet. Midir is okay if you stay in front of him, and not trying the tail strategy which brings out the worst in Souls (shitty camera, bad hitboxes etc).
Yes, for sure. Midir is a really fun fight if you fight him correctly. If you don't, it's hell on Earth lol.

Covetous. And the dipshits of congregation are even worse. Pinwheel creates fake copies, Covetous does almost nothing. I liked how in Bloodborne the Hemwick boss was clearly inspired by Pinwheel, but better done.

Pinwheel with more hp would have a been a hell of a boss fight imho.

Thanks. Not sure where else I should go. Should I go to the town area where the three dogs attack?
Your next step would generally be go to Blighttown to ring the second bell, and to get there, you'd either go through The Depths or Valley of Drakes. The latter makes Blighttown easier, but you will miss some loot in doing so.

Coming straight from Bloodborne, I've gotta admit the bosses in this game are a bit lacking for me. Only one I've actively liked so far is Ornstein and Smough, really. Part of it is because I miss the "phases", although some of the boss runs have been infuriating too.

I know nothing about Bed of Chaos, but absolutely dreading it after what I've heard.

What's up with the sprinting? Was it always this jerky, start and stop or is something up with my controller?

Like I start running, stop, start again, stop. Super annoying.

I just spent 2 hours fighting the four kings with a +15 Zweihander and kept getting destroyed. Finally realized the armor I was wearing gave me no defense to magic, put some on that did and *destroyed* them. God that feels good.

Something's wrong with your controller. This isn't normal. I had the exact same issue in Nioh with one of my controllers, the X button (which is the dash button in Nioh) must be damaged or something, it only happened with one specific controller.

if you're worried about bed of chaos, don't be.

it's so bad you shouldn't care about it being spoiled for you but i'll put this info in spoiler tags anyway:

For starters, it is not a traditional boss fight, and there is no way to damage the boss.

Basically it's this big circular arena with the boss, who is immobile, planted in the center. The floor crumbles around you, creating the opportunity for some very, very cheap deaths.

There are two red spheres on either side of the boss each with an object inside that must be attacked once before you can proceed. Attacking them will destroy the sphere and unshackle one of the boss's arms.

Once you've attacked both spheres, you have to get the boss to break the floor in front of it so that the root leading to the center of the boss becomes exposed.

Once the floor is open, you have to roll onto the root and roll as fast as you can through some brambles to reach an insect at the end of he path. Attack it and the boss instantly dies.

It's easily the worst boss in the series.

Ah balls. I got the fire keeper's soul from killing Lautrec, but just turned it in to reinforce my estus flask with no clue that I could revive the firelink shrine keeper with it. I was hoping to get that bonfire back...

It's so hard to look up the right amount of things in this game. Looking up too much spoils it, but if I didn't look anything up, I would miss too much.

...those ghost ladies under Firelink...I have no more transient curse left, just rang first bell.
should i come back later?
That's a late game area. You can buy one of them curses off a merchant so you can kill a few, but after a while they start to drop them anyway. You'll have more than you need by the end. But yes, go ring the second bell instead.

Spent the evening killing them all off. Artorias, Sif, Four Kings, Manus, Kalameet... Then I had to go down to Nito before facing Gwyn. The ending was pretty anti-climactic. Slog through tomb if giants, slay Nito - I just spammed R1 until he died.
Then Gwyn turned out to be a complete pushover, he didn't even hit me. My palms were extremely sweaty before entering the fog gate, pulse pounding, controller creaking and then it turns out that he's super slow compared to how I remembered him.

Four Kings is my least favourite boss along with the bed of chaos. They throw some spells at you but mostly wait around for you to kill them.

I really enjoyed Artorias, Manus and Kalameet.

Yeah. Same with my X button, haven't noticed it being a problem in other games. :\ Do you have other controllers?
Unfortunately not. I was supposed to get another one shipped out from work, but I might just go buy a new one anyway.

It's making the game almost unbearable to play, which sucks because I've been waiting ages for this haha. Fucking hell!

4Kings is so garbage.

Haha, that Hydra in Darkroot Basin. Easy as hell... If you know not to bumble into the bottomless pit.

Fun fight though, if gimmicky.

Yeah, coming back after the other Souls games, Demon's and Dark has a bunch trollish istadeath stuff. I'm glad they went away from that design.

What's the quickest way to get in to the Warrior of Sunlight covenant? My Faith is the default value (8) so leveling up at this stage is not feasible. That leaves me with helping players beat bosses to lower the value requirement. However, I'm at the end of the game so should I leave it for NG+?

At first sight, you think it's going to be hard as fuck but it turns out to be real easy once you know where to stand and just chop away. Still fun regardless though, as you said.
I was standing there in the safe zone and I asked myself if I really wanted to do this. Was I even supposed to be here at this point in the game? (Rhetorical question, but I am just before Sen's Fortress and I think the answer is yes.) I decided to go for it and after I fell to my death immediately, I was at least fully commited with 20k souls on the line.

Decided to try to lure it out, after which it attacked me with its heads and I figured out what to do. Especially since the heads hit relatively light (about half my stamina bar = 55 stamina), which could only mean the game expects you to block them.

Yeah, coming back after the other Souls games, Demon's and Dark has a bunch trollish istadeath stuff. I'm glad they went away from that design.
That pit was the only bad thing about this fight. I get what they were going for, I think, but it just comes off as cheap when you fall to your death without any form of warning.

Summoning is based on soul level and weapon upgrade. It won't matter if you are in NG, NG+, NG++ and/or etc. Either, you level the faith stat or put your summon sign at where the summon range is best for your character.

There's a cooldown initiated when your stamina bar is depleted, but it's rarely an issue so it could very well be something with your controller.
Oh I know that. Not my first rodeo, but it's been several years since I played the original Dark Souls so I was wondering if this was always a thing or just a bug. Turns out it might be my controller, son of a gun.

Wow, magic really is like easy mode in this game. I'm running a sorcery build for the first time and my Moonlight Butterfly Horn +3 and Great Heavy Soul Arrow are just melting bosses' HP bars. Took out O&S with no trouble yesterday, and that's the fight I always lose at least a couple times even after playing through the game like a dozen times.

Also, my new favourite thing is trolling invaders with the Chameleon spell. Was just invaded in the Archives, no Estus left and needed to retrieve my bloodstain, so turned into a podium then one-shotted the invader in the back with Soul Spear when he ran past me. Honourable? No, but IMO anything goes invasion-wise unless specifically duelling in a PVP area.
