The Crota days were the worst days of D1. IMHO. Worst buggiest raid. Worst loot. Worst leveling reset mechanic. Worst idea to grind glimmer to upgrade your exotics at Xur. Thanks Driz and RAWR for handing out all those Gatekeepers glimmer grinding checkpoints. Worst expansion all around.

Most people would agree that the worse days of Destiny 1 were the first 6 months. It has its fans (I call them "people who like pain") but that was the previous "it's fun to troll Destiny" moment of the series.

It was topped by Destiny 2's Curse of Osiris period.

I liked Crota's End a lot, as a raid.

You could solo large portions of it even if you weren't a God-tier expert player. It was also the last time a raid actually gave incredible loot. Black Hammer was too good for this world.

Crota's End could also be completed pretty quickly.....there wasn'tt have a lot of dicking about waiting for scripted events. Not a lot of platforming either.

Guys, halp.

I think I got an Exotic Masterwork Catalyst in a Heroic Strike but it's not in my inventory.

Does it only show up under the weapon? If so, I have no idea which one it was so that's a huge pain.

For me its simple. Somehow even though the game launched a mess, the best days were still the Crota raid days. They never seemed to know what to do with this game after Staten left. Takin King was an improvement but even then, a lot of people left and the game never reached this open world promise.

D2 somehow went the opposite direction. I find the worlds to be way smaller than old russis and the open world experience is almost zero. Most of the campaign and strikes are very linear, retreading, it almost reminds me of the Bungie Halo campaigns. I still play but the open world you never know who or what you will run in to is a dead concept for this game. Its really just an on rails shooter with levels you repeat over and over.

I understand the frustration, believe me, I do.

Cosmodrome is still their best space and they haven't topped it, would love for it to come back

My dream was that all destinations would carry forward, even if they do full fledged sequels. Add some Lost Sectors and Adventures, some specific armor for each zone. Maybe change the "season" a bit so the colors are a little different. Nothing crazy.

It would be great if Cosmodrome would come back but linked to the Plaguelands and we could see some changes since we were last there. It's a huge missed opportunity.

I had this image in my mind of, for example, Expansion III after this fall's retail expansion, having a random mission where you have to go back to the Moon to do something. I'd love that.

They really kind of ruined the original idea of Destiny being an always growing world.

But everything in the vault, then order it by rarity. All exotics will be grouped together. Check each one of them.

I actually had the same thing happen but still haven't bothered to hunt down the Catalyst. I figure that if it's a weapon I want to use, I'll find out eventually.

LOL what?

Sure, "relevel the same weapon you already leveled to 300, but now from 282 to 331 with a new currency!" was the epitome of Destiny.

I didn't say the game leveling mechanics were the best, I said the games best days. The game with the amount of players, the Raid cooperation and community were a lot better. Destiny has become a unrealized dream. Gjallarhorn hunting was frustrating but fun. The grind became worse for me once they started nerfing weapons. Then later, "retiring" favorites like Fate Bringer because they couldn't make better weapons.

Ran a card last night that was a breeze. The third match was a butt clencher though. We were down 0-5, but came back and won. The other team was stacked as fuck with insanely good players. Way out of my league. The one match I legit needed my buddies to carry me. I'm decent, but nowhere close to how good they are. They're stupid good and do this shit in their sleep. They consider a 2.5 K/D to be just okay.

Stats don't tell everything. At least it's not clear cut. There are trials people who leave before losing so they can keep their stats. And I ran into those many times thinking it's a loss after seeing at first how seemingly twice or three times how much better they seem on paper.
I run with a legit 3.0 guy but since he is one of the very very few high level people who doesn't care about stats he does triple carries all the time and there is so much he can do so his stats doesn't equal his actual skills.
All of my trials regs are bored to tears with the game and play fortnite most of the time. I get fortnite invites way more than D2 these days even though I told them a million times I won't touch that game. Some of them keep hoping D2 PVP turns back into D1 somehow and they watch old trials videos and cry thinking of.

Crota days were good. It was fun for me solo-ing the whole raid and it brought a lot of people together. Putting getting the horn was like winning the lottery.

You might be right, I don't know, but the Black Hammer was a fun chase loot wise and I liked the scout rifle (forget the name...Ir Yut?) while the Hunger of Crota at least allowed for some different loadout options. Some of the Year 3 AoT versions of those weapons were great too specifically the Necrochasm. Concerning the CE raid, it's in a weird place in that the mechanics are simple and the raid was short but I enjoyed it for what it was and at least it was cohesive in keeping the theme of Crota throughout the expansion and culminating with the final encounter. Soloing the thrall/lamp run was fun and then the the bridge/sword part (I can't believe folks actually wanted to cheese this part considering where we are now with Destiny raid mechanics), eh, I have fond memories of it. I definitely like aspects of it much more than the Leviathan.

That's a pain in the ass. You would think there would be a better way of telling players something like that.

Catalysts show up with the weapon if you got one. Otherwise if one drops and you don't pick it up, it goes to your mail.

You don't even need to pick it up as it will always show on the Exotic weapon. You just need to activate on the weapon one time initially and from then on it's always on that weapon, at least, it will show the same progress on every drop of that weapon you get. This same kind of thing works with armor ornaments as you don't need to activate them with the separate drops which makes one wonder why they are separate to begin with.

Just finished the main story after a few solid days on the game. Now I need to try and max out my Power and then get into doing Strikes and other stuff.

No expansions yet as I'm still figuring out if the loop of play is my kind of thing. Humble Monthly is great for getting games like this.

Welp, had a very strange occurrence at work, kitchen and dining room flooded from so much rain in a short time, haven't had a Saturday night off in, well, forever. Think I'll go sit on the cliff-side of Mars staring at Bungie's/Vicarious Visions' beautiful skyboxes in hopes of 8 other Guardians appearing out of thin air.

Any people playing on Xbox One that feel like carrying a 367 scrub through EP?

I want to start getting that armor (and hopefully the shotgun). I'm tired of looking at my Trials gear, but all the other armor sets look like poo.

You're looking at it from the wrong perspective. Obviously Y1 had some problems. People remember the good things.

During Y1, most weapons and perks were at their strongest and felt the best to use. Exotics were insane. It featured one of the best raids with VOG with fantastic rewards. A lot of people considered PVP the best it's ever been. Trials was introduced and was a big hit.

Y1 had its share of lows, but the highs were the highest they've ever been with Destiny for me.

I don't disagree with your basis idea. Nothing has ever topped getting the Gjallarhorn to drop for the first time in Y1, for example. And Bungie missed an opportunity for that in D2. (Imagine if all of those Exotic Ghosts were very rare drops that could happen at the end of any activity.)

But I'll take "continuous quality gameplay and reasons to come back" over specific highs here and there, which is why I think most prefer the post House of Wolves/Taken King world.

If I were Bungie, I would put a team together that worked specifically on bringing back all of the old D1 content to D2: destinations, strikes, Crucible maps, Raids. Sprinkle it in as free updates over the next year and then make sure you have a base going forward into Destiny 3 where everything can be brought forward easily.

I realize that's probably very difficult at this point but it would be better for the long term health of Destiny.

I can see it now.

Destiny 2 is so bad it has to resort to recycling content from destiny 1.

i agree with you

Finished Crimson Catalyst and lo and behold a Tractor Cannon catalyst drops. 4 shots + EP thralls = 5% complete. This is gonna be so easy to finish compared to Crimson and Borealis...

Well, quality of gameplay took a hit in TTK with nerfed stats and perks. PVP took a hit. There were less reasons for me to come back. I didn't like most of what TTK brought, though I realize I'm in the minority.

Anecdotal of course, but...

The vast majority of players I've talked to have said when I ask. That I'm retrospect, of whatever else, they wish either the content had been carried forward. Or that Destiny 2 would have not happened in exchange for continued work on D1.

Don't forget the Dark Drinker.

Here's what I want back:

The ability for me to drop a bubble over a control zone, dance inside of it which annoys people to the point where they enter it to try and kill me, they get blinded when they enter, I kill them with Raze-lighter.

Thanks to its perk, it then charges my super meter faster, with each kill. Drop another bubble and repeat.

I miss that. Not even the bubble is useful anymore. :(

tried doing SoS with some randoms, my first run ever two weeks ago i did a full run in 1hr17min first try with a group of 5 randoms

but i've done the final fight for ~3 hours today with 2 other groups and we failed. and people are so forgetful, doing things like standing on the plate when gladiator drop pods are about to come, or forgetting to stand on the symbol plate during arming phase, or forgetting to engulf their orbs

so frustrating

I mentioned this already in the thread but maybe my proudest Destiny achievement remains solo-ing Crotas for flawless raider. And I am pretty much the epitome of an average skill player.

It was a matter of learning on youtube the strats for each encounter, then executing then perfecting. Probably took me 2-3 weeks altogether, of course I continued playing the regular game too.

I was under time pressure too because it was just before they brought old raids back, so it was expected they were gonna fix all the bugs that made solo-ing CE possible. I did it in the last week.

When I did it, I remember anxiety because there was a bug on Xbox where achievements didn't pop right away, and it didn't. Even though I was aware of the bug, I was still worried. Thankfully resetting my Xbox made it pop.

As for that raid though, not a huge fan.

I actually really enjoy Leviathan TBH. It's hard to compare any raid to VOG since that first raid feeling cant be replicated, but if I'm straight judging on merits excluding VOG, Leviathan is probably my favorite raid. Some of the others like Kings Fall, WOTM, felt on the too difficult side to me. At least certain encounters.

So I'm constantly looking at DTR via my "Destiny Chromebook" that's always open while I'm playing (Xbox). I'm really on a good streak in my last 25, k/d which is usually around 1 is 1.3+, and I was 16-9 (this after that recent 4-19 debacle). This all solo as always. All quickplay.

I can never figure out why streaks like that happen, best I can figure is new expansion=lots of fresh meat for even a scrub like me.

But to the point DTR has ranking for everything, and I'm like #5300 in Valor score (around 1700). This seems odd to me, is it wrong, or have I really ground more than all but ~5k Destiny players at Valor??? Especially since I always solo, my score could easily be double if I ran a 4 stack like I'm sure many do, so in reality I'd be much higher than 5000 in terms of time spent. I dont grind THAT much, I grind PVE fully too (did 2 raids and EP and the entire Polaris Lance quest this week), etc etc.

Also, Xbox LFG is amazing for this game. I pity Playstation players. Having it IN THE CONSOLE is just a game changer. Of course LFG is still often a shitshow, but it's now a drastically more convenient one. Such a fundamentally great console OS idea for all games that I dont see a lot of people talk about.

Anyways I'm grinding toward resetting Valor so I can get the 4 powerful drops. Funny I'll willingly grind 3X as much something I can do solo as something I cant for the same loot.

My plan is to hit 385 this upcoming week so I can delete the game again (that's how I destiny, in spurts cus I feel bad about how much time it wastes). That and probably beat SoS. I went from 366 to 376 this week with only 2 full raids+milestones+EP, so it should be doable, the valor being an extra raids worth of drops factors in my planning.

i sherpaed the first group, and there was literally only one strategy to use, since i introduced it. but yeah when people die to random shit it's hard. raiding isn't for everybody.

i mean i think left middle right is easier than circle triangle square, but idk i guess your party member didn't
