I always enjoy finding new bands from countries I haven't "heard" from yet. Especially when they have fun wordplays as for example Wormrot (grindcore from Singapore),

I haven't been able to figure out a wordplay for Kazakhstan, so you all have to make do with some excellent death metal:

Thou-blowout!
Starting in April, we will be releasing an EP every month leading up to the release of our next full length Magus on Sacred Bones.

Traditionally, we release an EP of overage songs, or what's essentially b-sides, as we release a new full length. With the impending release of our fifth full length Magus, we have decided to take a different approach and release three EPs ahead of the full length, all of which are all a complete sonic departure from the album and from each other. Hopefully, this will encourage folks to give these shorter artistically-experimental records a good listen.

The first of these EPs is an ambient/noise, Supplicate-engineered, droned-out, The Body-worshipping, knuckle-dragger called The House Primordial and has been released in its physical form as of May 29, 2018 on Raw Sugar Records. (If you order a copy from Brice, we strongly encourage you to grab the Special Interest LP as well!) The House Primordial is currently streaming on our bandcamp and available for download.

The second EP is a collection of bleak, acoustic and quieter songs called Inconsolable and is now available for preorder from Community Records. We will begin streaming this record on our bandcamp on June 1, and the physical release will be available on June 29.

The final EP is a melodic grunge, Alice in Chains homage called Rhea Sylvia, and includes Thou versions of Matthew Thudium's solo works. It is now available for preorder from Deathwish Inc. with the physical and digital release available on July 27.

Gilead Media will be collecting all three EPs on a compact disc called Ceremonies of Consolidation to be released in August.

Finally, the actual full length record Magus is set for release on August 31 on Sacred Bones. You can preorder the record here. We will have a stream and, hopefully, some other surprises on the way ahead of its release.
New EP Inconsolable (free of course, as always).
I gotta say, I was pretty lukewarm on the first EP (The House Primordial), but then again, I'm not huge on The Body. This though... this is something special. Like Alice in Chains unplugged meeting Chelsea Wolfe (it's not Funck on vocals but a couple of guests. And that's not even the AiC one!). Holy shit do I dig this. I did not listen to the album track yet, kinda wanna go in unspoiled.
Also I love the artworks.

Either Fear of the Dark or Ghost of the Navigator. Ghost gets bonus points because I consider it the tonal beginning of Brave New World, which is a contender for my favorite album of all time.

My answer changes on any given day though, their library is just insane. I should give Piece of Mind and Powerslave another listen soon...

Powerslave
To Tame a Land
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Infinite Dreams
The Clairvoyant
Alexander the Great

...Sorry that's already a lot lol. If I had to pick a #1 it'd probably be either Powerslave or To Tame a Land though.

It hardly rains in Arizona...are we just kind of lucky we don't get it? Every time it rains here it's treated like an event...

Sun and Steel >>>> Quest For Fire

Hard to pick out my favorite Maiden song, but I can easily say that Can I Play With Madness is the WORST Iron Maiden song.

Naming the worst song of each Maiden album might be easier to figure out than which songs are the best.

Agreed with Can I Play With Madness being the weakest on Seventh Son, and it stands out because the album is so damn good.

Fallen Angel is easily the weakest on Brave New World. It doesn't help that it's followed by The Nomad, which is awesome and distinctive.

Throw The Nomad into that favorite song pile.

riders of theli is there best for me, people hate the shit out of the lepaca kliffoth album but its there best album

Lepaca Kliffoth is probably my 2nd favourite Therion album after Theli. Really underrated album, it's solid all the way through.

Yes. For me it goes:
  1. Theli
  2. Lepaca Kliffoth
  3. Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas
How anyone can hate Lepaca Kliffoth is beyond me. That's the album that truly proved that something like Theli could work.

I just can't pick a favorite Maiden tune or even ten or twenty. Time, Seventh Son, Trooper, Stranger, Powerslave...way too many good tunes to pick from.

First 6 Sabbath albums are perfection.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath & Sabotage being my top favorites.

As much as I love Dio and hate Ozzy, I much prefer pre-Dio Sabbath. Tony Martin is basically the Ron McGovney of Black Sabbath.

Pick ups this week (aside from all of the cds/tapes/tshirts/Blood Incantation shorts from MDF). Wolvennest's new album is going to be high up on my AOTY list:

Wolvennest - VOID (Psychedelic black/doom/droning greatness)
https://wolvennest.bandcamp.com/album/void

Shezmu - The Scent Of War (Egyptian themed black/death)
https://shezmu.bandcamp.com/album/the-scent-of-war

Spectral Wound - Infernal Decadence (Black metal in the vein of Sargeist & Mgla)
https://spectralwound.bandcamp.com/album/infernal-decadence

Also, next week new Taphos (https://bloodharvestrecords.bandcamp.com/album/come-ethereal-somberness) and YOB!

Every song in their first album. I don't care much about their other albums but Iron Maiden is such a magnificent record.

The cycle of most metalheads is that at first they don't get how awesome early Sabbath is, and the more they dig into Metal, the more they understand. Personally, I've nearly burnt out of listening to Metal, and apart from Sabbath and handful of other bands, I cannot listen to much Metal anymore. Everything I love about Metal is apparent in the Ozzy-era Sabbath.

Outside of some Metallica a friend would play, Black Sabbath (thanks to Faith No Mores War Pigs cover) was the first metal band I listened to and they blew me away right away. Favorites are self titled first album, Master of Reality and Sabotage.

I've listened to metal since the 80's, and I've never been into Sabbath, largely because of Ozzy's nasal voice. The old ones I listen to are usually those I already liked in my youth, like WASP's early albums. If I didn't get into them back then, it's highly unlikely to change later on. That applies to bands like Judas Priest and Manowar, for example. The latter's overtly masculine style has always turned me off as well. However, I later on discovered Coven, and quite like some of their songs.

I'm kind of saturated on early Sabbath. Their a good band, but hearing them my whole life on the radio, cd, or covered somehow just overdid it for me I think. I do probably need to dig in to their discography at some point though because I barely know anything from the Dio years. Which I'd add Rainbow in there too. That's a band I've only heard a few tunes from period.

The Slayer concert last night was great. It didn't rain (I had a poncho just in case). Lamb of God was a bundle of energy, blasting through their songs at light speed. There was a lot of pot smoking....and some young children wandering around, including a 10 year girl wearing a jean vest with patches and wearing devil horns. And little boy near me (three maybe) tossing himself around like it was a mosh pit. People around us got a kick out of that.

Been listening to metal for 20 years. The thing is that I have accepted that I will never love Ozzy's voice. They obviously made great music of course. But I don't think there will come a point where I fall in love with it.

Song of the Day
Technically its still Sunday...and yes, I nearly forgot. I was planning on using a different song...which completely escapes me. So instead I'm using my absolute favorite Motorhead song, Overkill as done by Overkill lol
