Is the Eileen quest still glitched? I went to help her with the fight with Henryk but nothing is there.

I've had no problems with it, did it on the 26th (I know because I shared a pic to Facebook of me watching Henryk from the shadows like a lunatic) and it worked fine, immediately bought his outfit after, so I don't know what your issue could be, hopefully you can get it fixed it's one of the greatest side quests, good luck.

Well that sucks. She's not outside the Cathedral Ward and she's not at the boss fight either.

I went there from Cathedral Ward and from the bridge. Nothing. Pretty sure I have the shhh emote. I'll check right now.

If you have ssh and nothing, you need to see if you opened the shortcut in the ward.

Purchase the Hunter's Chief Emblem from the Messenger Bath for 10,000 blood echoes. This will allow you to open the gate that sits at the top of the stairs – you'll pass by two graveyard keepers and an axe-wielding giant as you make your way up. Here, you have to unlock two shortcuts that allow you to loop back to the Cathedral Ward. The first gate you have to unlock is the one that's guarded by another two graveyard keepers atop some stairs. And the second gate is the one that leads you to a big rotunda area with two axe-wielding giants patrolling it.

Yes I've opened that all up. Also just booted it up and I do in fact have the shhh gesture.

I'm bummed out.

If you entered Forbidden Woods before triggering the Henryk fight, she disappears from the game until after Rom (where she shows up in the Grand Cathedral, Amelia boss room and she's hostile). It sucks. Happened to me before. It's probably a glitch because the Oedon Tomb lamp remains inaccessible from the Dream, as if something was happening there.

Oh. That's why. I finished forbidden woods. Dammit.

Had a nice 4 hour session and made some good progress. Finally killed Ludwig and finished off the Lower Ptheumeru dungeon. Gonna tackle whatever the next boss is in the DLC and then attempt the Ailing Loran chalice. Still maining the cane and LHB, but starting to appreciate Simon's Bowblade. Man I need Blood chunks bad!

Finally come back to the DLC.

It took me a lot to get used again to the game after playing DS3 for like a month. I kept pressing L1 to raise my shield and I ended up changing my weapon mode and getting destroyed by enemies lol Also, I really forgot how much BB relies on horror and terror; there hasn't been a couple of moments in which entering a dark room is getting me the creeps (and those screams. my god!)

I cannot beat Amygdala-and I can't summon anyone to help. I can join others games but they can't join mine.

At long last, finished the main game and I can finally say I've beaten a SoulsBorne game.

Overall I think Gehrman was the toughest boss for me in the game, especially since I knew I was a bit 'overleveled' for the fight at 92 (with 50 Vit). I kept my level/vit high towards the end of the game, so I was able to power past some of the 'tougher' bosses like Martyr Logarius and Ebriatas without too much difficulty. But Gehrman was on a totally different level. In the 'final phase' it felt really hard to get in any reliable hits in with the saw cleaver (in either form) without Gehram launching into an insane damage combo. Maybe I should have been using another weapon, but I stuck with the saw cleaver for the entire game and it was my only +10 weapon. There was a point where I got him down to 20-30% health for what felt like the hundredth time and I thought the game had finally "bested" me because I simply couldn't do better than that. Wound up summoning another player in frustration to see if that would make things easier, only to see him die a couple minutes into the fight (and myself shortly thereafter). In a way I'm kind of glad the summon didn't work, because when I beat him for real it did feel good to know I did it by myself.
For the life of me, I can't reliably parry in any video game, but I wound up landing just enough Visceral Attacks with the Blunderbuss in my final attempt on Gehrman to finish him off. If I was better at that, I could definitely see how some would consider this an 'easy' fight, but that's just not something I've ever been good at.

Definitely enjoyed the game a lot, and really glad I finally took the time to play it through. I loved the Gothic Victorian atmosphere (if that's the correct term) of the game. It's creepy, unsettling, and at times grotesque, but it somehow manages to steer clear from becoming a full on horror game (which I'm thankful for as I typically don't do well with scary games or movies). Admittedly there's a lot of the story I didn't quite grasp fully in my playthrough, but what I did see certainly piqued my curiousity, and I'm looking forward to reading and watching some Lore/plot analysis to fill in the gaps.

Probably will check out the The Old Hunters at some point, though after struggling with Gerhrman and hearing about the DLC's tough bosses, it kind of makes me want to take a nice long break from the game. For now, I'm just happy to have finished the main game.

I am finally going back to the game to do the DLC. I started over with the Threaded Cane this time and just been Shadows of Yharnham. When should I think about exploring the DLC?

I must be missing something on the Cane because I really dont feel like I am putting that much damage out.

Have you been upgrading the cane? Also, at this point you should already be slotting some gems into it.

I did the DLC at level 60 and I found it challenging but manageable. Usually people do it after clearing Yahar'gul and before finishing the game.

You could dip your toes into it to get a feel for it and then come back later if you wish. Even if you don't intend on doing the DLC right now it might be worth it to explore a little bit since it's loaded with Blood Chunks and weapons. Just make sure to do it before finishing the base game since it'll send you straight to NG+

How much more difficult is doing the DLC in NG+? Currently doing that, and Lady Maria is kicking my ass very hard.

María has about 40% more HP in NG+ and does about 50% more damage.

She's hard even in NG so don't give up.

I have the Threaded Cane to +6 right now, I dont believe I have had the chance for any gems yet. My problem is that my only previous save is from NG++ and I didnt want to do the DLC the first time that difficult.

I think I am only level 35-40 right now.

I finished this this week, and really can't believe I've gotten to this point. So much so that my desperation to talk about it broke me free of lurking here.

I never got along with Dark Souls, as much as I tried and wanted to love it. The more aggressive Bloodborne appealed to me, but hearing it was a more horror based game with jump scares equally turned me off. The PS Plus release was ideal for me, and apart from a God of War shaped hole, I've basically been obsessed with this since March. I read this thread, absorbed advice, and didn't worry about glancing at guides when the horror became too much. I didn't want it to be another Dark Souls for me.

I probably spent way more time in Central Yarnham than the game wanted, but I really enjoyed the gradual back and forth while I leveled up and figured out the shortcuts. I found the Cleric Beast long before I realized Gascoigne existed. (Those sewers were SO off putting, and I guess some of the 'go up, not down' thinking carried over from early Dark Souls.) The Cleric Beast seemed like a very tough wall to hit, and I was determined not to let it be off putting. Mostly by luck, and this thread, I found out about Gascoigne, and thanks to my endless training in Yarnham, I was able to kill him with an abundance of visceral attacks. I had heard legends of him breaking players, yet I slaughtered him on my third attempt. This game wasn't so brutal now. I was hooked.

As the game played out, I realized the bigger the boss, the more I struggled, and parry/visceral would not carry me through. (Amygdala killed me when she had a sliver of health left. I didn't even rage.) The Blood Stained Beast was a huge sticking point, and I cheered when I killed it after what could have been fifty attempts. It was a nauseating, anxious battle every single time, and I'll never forget confronting and crushing it. I then revisited the Cleric Beast and killed him in one try. I felt unstoppable. I moved on to Amelia, but things were even worse than BSB, though I knew that if the BSB didn't stop me, she wouldn't. (It was here that I also fell in love with the monster design, as much as the Cathedral Ward had upped itself in creeping me the fuck out).

From here, things were a lot smoother. Almost every time I struggled with a boss it was because I had to learn a new way to tackle things. Patience versus incredible aggression. Lock on versus trying to dodge and maneuver the camera with one hand. I'd swapped to the Hunter Axe sometime before Hemwick. Reach and raw power seemed to suit me.

The game got more and more horrifying. I've never played something with such a range of disturbing variety in its enemies. Werewolves and snatchers (the absolutely what-the-fuckery of getting brought to the Gaol) don't even come close anymore to snakes, fly people, what lies at Cainhurst, and the goddamn should-be-cute-but-SO-creepy aliens. I'm arachnophobic and I'd rather fight the spiders. I persevered. I swore a lot.

Ebrietas almost broke me. It was the one boss that felt unfair. It was the first boss that I summoned AI to help me with, the first that made me break out beast pellets and bolt paper. I'm very minimal, item and assistant-phobic in this game and this is where I cracked. I'd left her until the very end due to how frustrating she was, and defeating her before venturing back to the final stretch, post-Micolash, was such a relief. Touching distance.

The final two battles were both almost perfect in summing up the game. The hunter battle looked impossible from the first attempt, but learning the attack distance, the milliseconds of where I could strike, and learning to parry was exhilarating. The beastly boss was another vicious prick. Screw patience; I never gave it a second. Axe, meet face.

Working through it, this felt like the best game that I'd never play again. I love it. I don't want that experience again, and yet... two days later I'm already tempted to start all over again. The DLC awaits in my near future.

Frakked That was good to read :')

As for the DLC, oh boy. As someone who's is about to finish it, it's good. It's very good.

Also, monster design of the last area is incredible. Whoever designed the snail-people really needs to see a therapist. That shit is creepy as hell

Coming back to this game to beat the DLC again really reaffirms two things for me.

1. I love this game (I think it still might be better than God of War for me and that is saying a lot)

2. It needs a PS4PRO Patch so damn badly!

Met up with Lady Maria on my last session with the game. Holy crap! I see what all the talk about her was about now! She's not totally destroying me like some other bosses have, but the fight with her so far has been the most fun.

On the other side of the coin, I HATED the Living Failures fight. I rank that as my least favorite of all the boss fights right now.

I feel Living Failures is an underrated boss fight. The location is beautiful and when they start summoning the freaking cosmos and the second part of the soundtrack kicks in with that godly chorus, it's just audiovisually amazing. Ave! Ave Stella! <3

I was dreading facing the Nightmare Apostles. I'd seen the Mergo's Loft Base screenshot (you know the one) and was legit afraid of getting there and having to pass underneath them, assuming they'd all fall onto me as I ran.

But I got there, I did it, and they're not really that bad. And their design is almost .... benign, especially compared to the real horrors of the game (IMO the Winter Lanterns, Mi-Go, Brainsuckers, giant flea women and the Amygdala.)

I was 'lucky' in that I'd seen that screenshot years before playing it, and assumed somehow that I was done with spiders after Rom. I guessed it must have been from a Dark Souls instead. Nightmare of Mensis was horrible enough, and walking into that room was another massive swearing moment. Shouting incredulous swear words at this game became a really fun meta-game for me!

They were fine for me to fight though, eventually. Transformed axe and L2 is really useful against them! I did try and run past them to tackle the hunter, and they followed me... seeing 8 or so spiders chasing me down a hall is nightmare fuel. But yeah, far from the worst things in it. The Mi-Go and flea people were far more disturbing to look at.

Completed Eileen's quest successfully for the first time and oh have I been sleeping on the Blade of Mercy! Bummer I didn't unlock the weapon sooner, it's so awesome to combo enemies to shreds. Definitely making the DLC fun.

Has to be considered the most challenging hunter fight in game though. Geez.
After countless failures the AI suddenly forgot how to shoot so I got my chance.

Never played Bloodborne, thinking about starting it up soon as I got it free through PS Plus.

Some questions:

I want to Platinum it and experience the DLC, how should I do this?

If I finish the game, can I go back and clear stuff I missed? What about the DLC? If I finish the game and then buy the DLC can I jump straight into it or do I have to start the game from scratch and then reach a certain point?

The Platinum is fun. It's not grindy like other Souls games. The hardest Trophy is related to the optional Chalice dungeons, but you can postpone doing that to the very end after you've finished the game and gotten used to its mechanics and built a powerful character with a maxed out weapon of your choice.

The DLC has its own set of Trophies that are separate from the Platinum of course. It is recommended to do the DLC before finishing the game since finishing it will toss you straight into NG+ and not only will you have to reach the point in which the DLC becomes available again, the DLC is by far the hardest content in the game (outside of the aforementioned Chalice dungeons) and doing it in NG+ might not be as enjoyable the first time around.

I suggest you buy the DLC as soon as you plan on starting the game. You'll want to do it anyway and that way it'll be available to you as soon as you meet the in-game requirements. It's just a wonderfullly crafted piece of content and it's worth every penny.

So in a nutshell TLDR:

  • Buy the DLC
  • Advance through the game normally (I suggest not using a guide to experience the game blindly)
  • Do the DLC as you near the end of the game
  • Do everything you need to get the Platinum outside the chalice dungeons before facing the final boss.
  • End game Spoiler:
There are three different endings that are triggered depending on certain actions you can take just before facing the (potential) final boss. Normally that'd mean finishing the game 3 times, but you can use Save Scumming with a USB stick or cloud saves to do it in one playthrough. Each ending is tied to a different trophy so you'll have to get all 3.
  • Complete the Chalice Dungeons questline to get the last trophy you'll need. You can do this in NG+ since chalice dungeons do not change difficulty.

Will I know when the DLC part begins when I reach it?

Will I know when the ending is near so I can save on USB?

The final boss fight occurs right after the boss that starts with the name mergo. Once you beat that, you will want to make your backup before triggering the final boss fight. It will be obvious how to do it, so you won't do it by accident.

You can start the dlc anytime after beating vicar Amelia.

More detailed explanation on how to start the dlc, from the wiki

  1. Defeat Vicar Amelia and activate the skull in the Cathedral to turn day into night.
  2. Go to the Hunter's Dream and receive Eye of a Blood-Drunk Hunter from a messenger.
  3. Go to the Cathedral Ward and leave via the left-hand exit to enter the square.
  4. Go to the right-hand end of the square (where the Hunter Set/Top Hat are located) and the Lesser Amygdala will grab you. This will take you to the new area: The Hunter's Nightmare
  5. Lighting the lamp in the new area will allow you to travel to and from the area via the Hunter's Nightmare Awakening Headstone in the Hunter's Dream . It can be found by the Insight Shop, where the Doll will sometimes kneel and pray.

Trying Bloodborne, and any Souls game, for the first time. I was getting really frustrated because no matter how far I got, I'd die and have to go through everything again. I was upset that I could never find the next checkpoint, but now I get that my goal is more to unlock shortcuts so that I could bypass past the areas I've already gone through in the first place!

I also picked both the axe and the blunderbuss, so I'm slow as fuuuck. Probably not the best choice for the first time, but I didn't know what I was doing.

Actually the axe is pretty good and much faster than other weapons like the Kirkhammer. It's probably the fastest of the two handed trick weapons and it has excellent reach. Plus it has spin2win!

If you are interested in parrying the hunter pistol is a bit faster but the blunderbuss is not bad at all.

Yeah, all the weapons are viable for the whole game as long as they are upgraded and gemed. Weapons are one of the best thing about this game.
