Another great video by Summoning Salt, this time focusing on a single track in Mario Kart 64. I remember seeing some of these shortcuts in Nintendo magazines very shortly after the game released, but I certainly didn't know the track had a lot more under its sleeve.

Surprisingly interesting; even though I'd be terrible at this in real life (I don't really go pursue speed runs either so I actually kinda prefer these sorta 'highlights' vids). I love the exploits and this one is especially detailed!!!
And I'm hungry for chocolate.

Choco Mountain is my absolute favorite track in MK64. The narrow tracks, the intense 150cc speed and the awesome music make it all a great recipe for fun!

I love Summoning Salt's videos, there's so many little histories I would know nothing about otherwise.

How is it infamous when it's completely utterly forgettable?

EDIT: oh right, speedrunning.

That was a very very interesting video. I always find myself amazed at the dedication some people put into world records and the like.

This was fascinating. Especially the sub 20 sec ending. Holy crap I can't believe some runners can sit there and do something like that for so long.

Loved this track back in the day. The music is my favorite in MK64. In fact I can't remember any other tracks off the top of my head.

Apart from finding MK64 really annoying to play nowadays, I always hated Choco Mountain for being so dull to look at. But if anyone can make it interesting, it's Summoning Salt!

Great video! I love learning about these subcultures in gaming and for that reason, I've subscribed. I remember watching a Super Mario Sunshine history of speedrunning video (can't remember who by) that completely changed how I viewed that game. Obsessions are fascinating.

I thought this was going to be a history of what the course has to do with Mario. Like someone uncovered some cancelled Mario game it was pulled from.

5 second laps are cool too though.

Finished watching, it's fascinating to look into a scene like this. Very technical and history keeping, which I can appreciate.

Excellent video.

I like the idea of videos like this being on the equivalent of the History Channel in fifty years time.

I don't really care about speed running at all but this was absolutely fascinating to watch. Loved every second!

What a fascinating video. I kept getting surprised with every reveal... Really well done stuff.

Speedrunners are truly amazing folks. Hats of to them and the people covering them!

Weather Tenko, sounds like it belongs in Street Fighter or Smash Brothers. Cool video. This is the type of thing that'll make me binge search on Youtube.

Always hated this track, but as soon as I woke up and saw it was a SummoningSalt video I had to watch it. Amazing work as always.

This was a surprisingly serious documentary. Even I found it fascinating, and I don't follow speedrunning at all!

I guess it helps that I love Mario Kart.

Crazy stuff. I don't have the patience to even casually speedrun anything. The dedication these people have is amazing. Glad to see Summoning Salt posting more videos.

Man, MK64 was a glitchy mess. One of the very, VERY few high-profile Nintendo releases that I absolutely never want to play again (but would.. if someone REALLY wanted to).

But, to add to the conversation, in 2000 I bought a cheat code book from Blockbuster with all N64 games and their secrets and such, and learned the game had an insane amount of glitch shortcuts. I spent a good majority of the spring messing around with them.

My favorite glitch (and I have pissed some people off with this one) is the DK Jungle glitch, where you veer to the left right before the end of the first lap and use a mushroom to go right into that edge of the exit from the cave. If you do it correctly, you will skip an entire lap and be on the very end of the second lap.

Try it out!

Amazing video! I love it when a documentary, even a mini one like this, manages to build up suspense and drama. I gasped several times!

The more as time goes on, the more I hear great things of the speedrunning community. Seems to be super supportive and their dedication to their goals is staggering!
