All this talk about the notch on the P3XL... I just hope they bring back wireless charging.

With a Pixel Watch and maybe new Pixel Buds (hopefully without the wire connecting them), this could be a solid offering.

Only other thing they could add that i want would be an IR Blaster or in screen fingerprint. ;)

im kinda done with pixel phones. the touch responsiveness isn't that much better than other stuff. The pixel rom got some really awful visual design elements too, especially on P.

no expandable storage sucks. USB-PD is slow. monthly updates always introduce new bugs. hardware is still laughable. meh.

prove me wrong google.

Google tends to have to many nagging hardware flaws going back to the Nexus days. The devices are still pretty good, but it's hard to justify the increase in price from the Nexus line to the Pixel line while they kept having nagging hardware problems.

Considering moving to the P20 Pro from my Pixel 2 XL. Main reason being the zoom on the camera, it's super useful and looks great.

On the other hand, point and shoot doesn't look as good as what the P2XL produces.

Hmm.

Can I have some recommendations?
I want a simple, transparent widget that shows me my calendar (outlook) alerts and upcoming tasks.
So far I tried a few apps but no dice, seems like no one is using outlook but me, or maybe MS restricted the accces or something.

It's only a matter of time until we find the Pixel or Pixel 2 have some crippling long term failure flaw like the Pixel C had. Google don't understand how to make robust devices.

Pretty sure Outlook is the only app that'll show you Outlook events. Sucks. I'm in the same boat.

Just about heading back vacation in London, followed by wedding in the US.

Have been really making full use of my S9+ and can't describe how good it feels to liberally take 4K photos and video on this phone with 128GB external storage fast enough for 4K 60 fps recording. Also, using Samsung Pay in London is joy. No need to buy a transit pass - the total cost maxes out at 8 pounds for the day.

Phone has been a beast in peformance and has not slowed down. Does everything I need to. If I could pick anything to improve it would be battery life. There was a day my phone died before 9 PM because I was going very heavy with Google Maps and some photos. I would say that battery life has been good though overall and always lasts me the full day. I don't give shit a about Android P and Pixel XL phones are dead to me if they are going forward with that design.

Jeff, I checked the Asus thread.

As soon as I saw the Unbox therapy thumbnail I cringed, almost puked and closed the tab.

That RED phone sounds pretty crazy:
https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/02/red-hydrogen-one-hands-on-preview/

I remember a phone years ago with a glasses-less 3D screen and remember it seeming pretty dumb since you need to touch the screen to use it which breaks the effect. But apparently this is suppose to be a lot more impressive than that.

Still, it would be kinda cool to be able to watch 3D movies on my phone easily. I'm just curious if it'll ever come out (and if it won't cost +$1000).

Ok, so...if the biggest sellers for me on a phone are its camera, waterproofing, and ability to get to the end of a day on one charge, is there a good reason why I shouldn't get the P20 Pro? Looking at all the phones out there, nothing quite seems to offer the mix of what I want, though the Galaxy S9+ gets closest (but it doesn't have the camera nailed down just like I want). Here are the phones I've showed interest in:

- Galaxy S9+ (feels like the best common sense pick)
- P20 Pro (feels like the most exciting/risky pick)
- LG G7 ThinQ (feels like a concession in some ways, but it does feel really nice to hold and play with)
- HTC U12+ (feels like a Dad phone, but dat DxOMark score...)

I would wait for the Pixel 3, but my Pixel XL isn't going to last that long. It's shutting down on its own, it's locking up, and it's just showing every sign that it won't make it beyond another couple of weeks. Don't drop your phone in rivers, guys.

Any phones I'm missing out looking at? I really, really want a good camera. 3.5mm jack is a big plus, but I realize dongle life is upon me. I like stock Android, but am ok with customizations as long as the phone is going to get updates in a reasonable fashion. I would like a 2-year life phone. I'm happy to pay high end.

Definitely take the Nokia 8 Sirocco into consideration, flagship specs with Android One.

I don't do much video. As I'm looking at more and more comparisons, I'm backing off the P20 Pro a bit. I love what the camera can do, but I'm seeing that it's just really, really strong in what it aims to do, but it might not be quite as well rounded as some of the other flagships.

Looking into that now. Thanks.

2 years support. Huawei takes a long while with the p series with updates. Samsung takes a while but updates are consistent.

I don't know if HTC will be around in 2 years. LG phones are finally getting oreo these days.

But then again it also does quite a few things no other camera does as you said, so which is better?

The 3/4/5x zoom that gets me near perfect photos just allows me to get pictures that would otherwise require a normal camera, and longe exposure photos with no tripod is something I just appreciate too much because the overall picture quality, colors, contrast, is unlike anything I've had my hands on in the android world. Having these, I wouldn't trade them for an all rounder.

And the 40MP photos in good/above average lighting conditions just blow anything away in term of pure detail.

Ok, so I got the opportunity to pick out a free from from T-Mobile. My company paid for it. And while you guys are all going to call me crazy, I went with the LG G7 over the Galaxy S9+. The reasons I went the way I did is because of the less heavy-handed customizations (though the GS9 isn't as bad as past Galaxy phones), the wide angle lens being more useful than a zoom, the audio quality (this one actually excites me), and the lack of Bixby.

It all won't matter though. If I like the Pixel 3 or something else that comes out and impresses, I'll just sell this one and upgrade. A day in, however, I'm digging what this phone offers. Battery is at 72% right now and it was off the charger all night long. It was at 100% around 9:00pm last night. It's now almost 1:30. Lots of installing an setting up, so plenty of screen use and data usage.

Will they finally render the UI at native 4k this time?

Text was mad blurry on the XZ premiums 1080p mode.

Wait, what? The text on my XZ Premium looks perfect.

As for the XZ2 Premium, waiting for it is one thing. It's a matter of whether it's even going to be released in your region of the world as it's not getting a global release. Plus there are rumors of another high end premium/pro/whatever coming later in the year that might be the global device.

It seems that the XZ2 Premium got screwed by the delay in its release. My guess is they'll sweep it under the rug and replace it with a better variant at IFA.

Definitely looked worse than my s8+ if I recall.

Looked a bit better with the adb command but that's not real 4k.

I used the G6 for a while (Best Buy was selling the Sprint version for $200 during Christmas), and to be honest I noticed lag which I wasn't expecting. I used the Moto G4 Plus for a while and it was much snappier than the G6, and the Motorola used a much lower end chip set. The G7 at least matches other flagships this year and uses the Snapdragon 845, where the G6 didn't use the Snapdragon 835 last year.

I switched over to the Galaxy S9 and it's noticeably faster than the G6 all around. Maybe the G7 is different but I wasn't impressed with the G6. I used the G2 back in the day (it was great for its time) and the G3 was also nice.
