Mojave looks very good but I really wished they'd release a new MBP.

Guess I'll have to wait a few months :(

9/10 conference, minus one point for boring tvOS update, no iCloud feature changes, and no hardware (though I wasn't expecting any of that)

Very nice software upgrades.

Making it hard for me to leave Apple for my next laptop. And yet, you gotta show me the next hardware refresh before I can commit, Apple.
  • eGPU support is nice, but I'm told it doesn't work via Bootcamp. Unacceptable. Fix it.
  • Fixed memory fucking sucks, I need to be able to ensure a decent lifespan with 32GB of ram as an option. Give it.
  • Fix hard drive space fucking sucks, I need to be able to ensure a decent lifespan with multiple TB of SSD space as an option. Give it.

Those are my terms and conditions. Otherwise I'll have to move on, whether I like the OS or not. The reason my 2011 MBP has been able to remain my daily driver for 7+ years is becuase I was able to expand the memory from the 4GB it came with to 16GB. I was able to expand the storage space from a 200GB or so HDD to a 700GB+ SSD and an additional 1TB HDD, replacing the SuperDrive. All of it mattered, and I would have had to replace this laptop years ago if I were still limited to the storage space and RAM it came with. I'd like my next laptop to last 5 years or so without concern of frustration as well.

Kind of the impression I got. I feel like that "NO!" slide will be made fun of years down the road.

but this is completely false? they just want to make sure developers can easily port their ios apps to mac. both to make sure the mac app store is not a wasteland, and so devs have another revenue source.

Mojave sounds great.

Best announcement was Google Maps support in CarPlay. Thank god, finally.

My biggest question to Craig is, wtf have you not created a unified UIKit already, and why are you needing until 2019 to even show developers? It just feels like a big lack of leadership and vision, and they are finally responding only because MS is breathing down their neck.

Mojave was great. Latter half of iOS 12 was nice too. Everything else was snoozeworthy.

Did they say you can swipe through different screensavers on the Apple TV? Or did I misunderstand?

None of this is even remotely true.

"We're making it easier for developers to port iOS apps to macOS."

That's literally it. No merging.

Yea I'm confused by this. Isn't this... a good thing for developers? It means less work for developers. It can also lead to more content in the Mac Store which is fairly anemic atm.

Honestly a better presentation than I expected (the Siri/Shortcuts stuff is really really nice and necessary), though the lack of dark mode for iOS is pretty funny and it's a huge bummer that iTunes is going to limp along for one more year.

You know what i'd really like? A pairing-popup for W1 enabled Bluetooth earphones (beatsX, AirPods) in macOS.

Not quite, just not needed ATM. SE is already very speedy with current iOS and will be even faster this fall. The dream will only be dead if we don't get a 4incher by 2019.

True. If iOS 12 is indeed faster on older hardware, the SE (which is ever so slightly faster than the iPhone 6S due to the lower resolution) should be a great entry level iPhone, still.

I may have missed it because I was listening at work, but did they announce a release time-frame for iOS12?

Mojave sounds awesome. iOS is what we expected....performance focus but grouped notifications is literally all I care about. Dark mode will have to be next year.

It's clear they staggered it. Lots of updates for MacOS this year, and then next year will be lots of updates for iOS with MacOS being a maintenance update.

None of this is remotely true. Adding the ability to show a mobile app within a desktop environment is not merging the operating systems it's allowing app sharing. Completely misleading

My read is that (Tapbots) Paul is trolling. Just imagine craig hockenberry said that in all caps.

I'm intrigued by the iOS app porting to Mac. Should bring a few cool iOS-only apps to Mac when the major consideration in porting seems to be the UX.

I'm also super excited to get Home.app on my Mac, and some of the new things you can do with Siri and HomeKit on Mac.

While it'd be nice to see new Mac Minis, I think people hoping for any hardware today we're setting themselves up for disappointment.

What's your bet on a Fall presentations? Brief word on Mac hardware updates with the iPhone and iPad being the main show or a separate keynote? Or, heck, if updates are minor enough maybe just a press release?

That was the worst WWDC in years. I stopped watching it halfway through but my friend was texting me updates for the rest of it. Almost every "new" iOS feature was blatantly ripped off from Google and other Android phones, and presented as a brand new, never before seen features. It's even more insulting that Apple can't even be bothered to fix the basics as well (like Siri still barely working after seven years) It's sad that Apple don't innovate anymore, and that most of their recent "innovations" (no headphone jack, notched screen) are copied by every other phone company, leading to a less diverse and competitive market because every single phone looks like an iPhone. Maybe I don't want that on a phone just because Apple does it as well. If I did, I'd buy a fucking iPhone. (rant over)

Walkie Talkie for the Watch is giving me flashbacks to those Nextel phone days.

You should have worked in a "this would never happen if Steve Jobs was still alive" to cap it off!

If the MacBooks/iMacs are only a spec bump, I can see that being a press release before the September event. Fall event will be reserved for Phone/iPad/Watch. There may be an October event for Macs, but I highly highly doubt it.

Not sure if I missed it, but we didn't get any Apple Music updates either did we?

Hm, you're right. 8.5/10.

is walkie talkie only for Watch OS5?

I still rock my series 0.

Yes, and the S0 isn't getting watchOS5

How easy is it to backup and restore a Mac? Is having a time machine backup sufficient for getting everything backup and running quickly? Tempted to participate in the beta on macOS. iOS is very neat but I rely too much on my phone and the iPad Pro. And after iOS 11 beta killed my iPad once... (maybe I'll do it during summer break anyway)

A couple of security related tidbits from the fine-print:

Password reuse auditing
Passwords that have been reused will be flagged in the passwords list, so you can quickly navigate to the app or website and replace it with an automatically generated strong password.

Password sharing
Easily share and receive passwords from nearby iOS devices, from an iOS device to a Mac, and from an iOS device to Apple TV.
