I almost want to ask for some Era assistance on Sen's Fortress. I'm constantly getting bodied and I'm getting super frustrated ;(

I'm using the Black Knight Sword and The Crest shield, am I right in thinking they can't be upgraded past level 5?

I have the sword at +4 and the shield at +2, but I'm worried they are going to start losing their effectiveness towards the end of the game, I'm just about to enter the gate that opened after ringing the second bell.

Yes, weapons upgraded with Twinkling Titanite max out at +5. In case of the Black Knight Sword you don't have to worry about it falling behind if you keep your str or dex up a bit. It It can easily get you through the whole game.

The Shield is more of a situational item that you can swap out as needed, like against magic, fire etc.

For general use just get a shield with 100% Physical reduction and some decent stability.

Yea the Crest shield has 100% physical reduction and decent magic reduction so I decided to upgrade it.

Btw is there a softcap for strength like in Bloodborne?

Siegmeyer is faster than he appears. I ran from Anor Londo, where I just helped him out, to Firelink Shrine. He beat me to the punch, but that can be forgiven because I explored more of AL after helping him there. I talk to him in Firelink and he says he's about to go to Blighttown. I run there myself, beelining there through the shortcut through the Valley of Drakes. I arrive at the swamp and lo and behold: Siegmeyer stands in the middle of it, in a bit of a pickle.

(I know the game teleports him there, just thought it was funny seeing it in action like this.)

Yeah, that's a great place to farm. I got over 25 shards (both green and regular large) in less than an hour.
Just went there myself and got 6 regular large and 5 green titanite shards in one run. No humanity, only the gold serpent ring. Pretty decent, I'll say.

I made this video a few years ago showing how you can just sprint through everything to get to the bonfire:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yxYFS84zbo
Might be worth trying that a few times just to get the bonfire opened and then explore freely

Pretty much every man-serpent on the way to the top can be avoided or killed with a trap!

Quick question for the Soulsborne die hards. I put 200 hours into Demons back in the day. I Beat BB 3 times and very recently played Dark Souls 3 through multiple times. My Question is, coming off the back of DS3 and BB, is this going to feel super clunky and plodding comparatively? I'm tempted to buy either this or the SF anniversary this month but can't really stretch to both

Didn't play through Demons, but I've played through DS2,3 and BB (sans DLC). Dark Souls 1, the one I played first, still holds up. It IS going to take a couple hours to adjust to, though. Your character's slower but the levels themselves are far smaller as well.

It's about as fast as DeS

Cheers guys. I think I might leave it. Absolutely obsessed over DS3 and I think I might struggle to go back. I know I'd struggle to play DeS now

First time ever playing as a divine build, and I am using a pole arm as well. I forgot how good this game is, I haven't played DS1 since 2012 or so. Sunlight spear is really nice at lower levels.

Tip for anyone farming in the swamps of Blighttown: bring a bow to deal with the mosquitoes. Take out the ones approaching you, then manually aim at their spawn points. You can take them out as soon as they appear.

Both regular bows (short and long) work, but Longbow is better because you don't need to adjust your aim to take arrow trajectory into account (since the Shortbow has, well, shorter range).

I haven't tested it with Wooden Arrows yet, because I forgot to buy them. But the Standard Arrows are so overkill, the wooden ones should do the job as well. Especially if you reinforce the bow a couple of times.

Or wear the ring of fog, I don't think they've ever noticed me since. :)

I got invaded by a Giantdad and after he killed me I messaged him "you're just bad so you min max with giants armor" and he replied "git good scrub". You spend the time and effort to go Giantdad and you don't even say the line when they set it up?

Never meet your heroes. :(

I haven't gotten far in either DS3 and BB, but from what I understand DS1 plays a lot slower and therefore encourages slow, shield-based defense. Combat in BB in particular is the way it is in an effort to remedy that play style.

I don't think the game is particularly hard, just very obtuse. Aside from a few lines of text in the Asylum it doesn't explain anything. It can be very daunting in the beginning.

53% is a fat roll. Here's a vid that shows all three of them, including how they impact your timing when rolling through attacks. With fat rolls it's almost impossible to time it correctly:

Yeah knight has a fat roll, i switched the torso armor for the chained male one and its much better, it looks like other game, is there any advantage leveling up resistence skill?

I don't think I have that ring yet. Does it shorten aggro range?

Not really. There are other, better ways of improving your resistances and the points you put into it are of much more use to you in any other stat.

At O&S in NG+ and for the first time, working on taking Smough out before Ornstein. Really changes the dynamic. Keeping track of Ornstein is a pain, although it's forcing me to get better at my pillar awareness. LOL

First time playing this game and getting grave lorded to heck and getting wrecked. I think in PtD I'd encountered 3 areas total that were affected by grave lords but now I'm getting it every area. It made the run to the rite of kindling in NG+ a challenge.

Also go back to the northern asylum and get the rusted iron ring. It lets you move through the swamp normally which greatly increases trip efficiency.

Are you using the Drake Sword by any chance?

Anyway, the place is very predictable. Once you know how it works you can use the traps to your advantage, and most enemies can be run past. For the pendulums, a good practice would be tilting the camera to an almost top-down perspective, then it's much easier to see where you need to stand. There's only one place where you need to clear all four in one run, for the rest you can wait them out.

Goals for my current run:

- No shield and use weapons I hate (curved swords and spears)
- Don't rely on any kind of magic (I am killing all the trainer NPCs immediately so I can't even fall back on them if I wanted).
- Learn to consistently kill bosses I still have trouble with (just Kalameet and Manus)

I think my dislike of curved swords is because of the lack of a kick, but I started as a Wanderer and intend to use Painted Guardian Sword eventually and mess about with spears (I think the Partizan is the one with the unique moveset?)

When I watch someone like LobosJr deal with Kalameet, his attacks and such seems easy to see coming, but when I fight him myself I seem to have terrible RNG or just trouble reacting in time to certain attacks. Manus is another one I get by through chugging estus - I'd love to be able to RTSR Manus so I could finally do a full game SL1 run - I've only ever done a SL1 run pre-DLC.

For future reference, bonfires stay kindled for NG+, so you can kindle all the important ones in NG so that you don't need to get rite of kindling in NG+.
