All of this year's updates seem to be the small, but long in coming feature improvements that are really going to round out Apple's ecosystem and feature sets. Like, it's not perfect yet, but I feel like it's about 90% there.

WatchOS 5 doesn't seem that impressive compared to the MacOS and iOS updates this year. Nothing in particular that really stands out or seems like it sets the foundation for something cool in 2-3 years, though grouping notifications is nice.

Maybe this is a more hardware-focused year for the product line and some of the bigger features will tie into the Series 4. I might upgrade my watch this year so it would be good timing...

Memoji setup. Quiet a few options, they actually have more than the standard "bald or Afro" for black hair.

Would that really help much? I figured it would be more of OS or RAM thing. I also want to be able to do more after effects stuff outside of work and idk how well the integrated graphics card can handle that.

I just swapped an SSD into mine and it made booting happen ludicrously faster.

Now, the gpu in a 2011 13" MBP is, uh, modest, so might be time for an upgrade if graphics are your goal.

I ordered the Pride watch band and it should be here on Thursday, excited. One question though, how do I get the pride watch face? Didn't see it on my phone.

I don't have an iPhone, but I really like the shortcuts feature, memoji, and 32-people FaceTime. I really like they improved performance for all devices, even those from 2013. Nice job there, Apple.

I'm all about that macOS Mojave update, though. Dark mode, new App Store, and the screenshot/video recording features. Finder quick options are a nice welcome as well.

Been using iOS 12 for awhile now. It is smooth. Like, I didn't expect it to be this smooth.

So anyone with Mojave want to confirm. Does dark mode require devs to "opt-in" to the automatic coloring or is it magical in that all apps support it right out of the box?

I'm confused as to what this implies.

third-party media apps (spotify, overcast, etc.) could theoretically be controlled with siri now

So anyone with Mojave want to confirm. Does dark mode require devs to "opt-in" to the automatic coloring or is it magical in that all apps support it right out of the box?

it's opt-in, and requires an app to be built against the 10.14 sdk. most cocoa controls should Just Work, but devs will need to make tweaks to their apps to ensure readability

Nooooo kidding. Every time something Pride-related happens, there's a lot of Tim Cook-related snark. They try to do the whole "only posters with a set number can post in this topic because it's political" (which is disgusting to begin with), but the top-rated posts are always "I wonder why Cook is allocating resources to this" and the like. Despicable.

I used to lurk there a lot until I saw more and more of the Pride and iPhone RED news item forum sections. Now I just read the news and leave.

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-pay-donations-and-app-store-stories.2092078/

I really want to try the Mojave Developer Beta for dark mode, but I guess I'll have to wait for the Public Beta.

Figured it would. I trust most apps will have updated as fast as possible. Funny enough I don't really use many apps that don't already have a dark mode of their own anyway. And most of the rest will probably be updated pretty fast if they aren't secretly already.

I love that I come here and see tons of people trying out the new release, giving tips on usage, etc... while the MacRumors forums are just a mess of "STEVE WOULD'VE HATED ANIMOJIS"

I know, going there was my first mistake, but I am ever hopeful.

Yeah, that site has really gone down the tubes in the past years. Before the explosion of the iPhone, it was a really great community, but Apple's popularity has poisoned the well so to speak.

Maybe it's the way I use my Apple TV, but I have only two real big gripes with it. First, I'm constantly having to go to websites and enter in the 6 digit pin all the time, like almost anytime I'm trying to watch TBS or NBC. The second one is that there's no way for me to know what shows I'm subscribed to in the TV app that will appear in the Up Next section; and sometimes shows just get unregistered or something, and then I have a backlog of Samantha Bee to watch.
yesterday I had to sign into all my apps again for no reason. I fucking hate that 6 digit code with a passion.

——
side note: I actually love the Siri app suggestions feature in the search section. it always has the apps I want to go to lol

Are y'all installing the Mac beta downloading as a developer or from a third party? Wondering how reliable the latter is

Just to confirm, there's no universal setting for grouping notifications (like showing previews on lock screen) right? It's on a per-app basis?

I'm asking because it didn't seem to group the notifications that were already there from before I upgraded

It automatically grouped even my previous notifications on my iPad, and seems to work out of the box - if you get multiple notifications from any app, it groups them and just shows the most recent with an option to expand. No work from the developer needed.
