After the Cancellation Debacle last month, I decided that this show warrants a viewing from me, and boy have I been missing out. Right now on Season 1 Episode 15, and this has been solid so far. Strangely enough, what truly sold me on the show was Episode 10, the Thanksgiving Episode. Sitcoms usually use the holiday themes to be more relaxed and perhaps as a tearjerker, but compared to the first 9 episodes, this one was firing on all cylinders. Terry Crews' obsessive eating, Peralta and Captain Holt going on a bust together with Peralta's hijinks wearing off on him(that domestic violence scene had me in tears), and in general it was such a tightly written scenario. I say that this episode sold me on it more than the previous 9 as while they had their moments, the humor was a tad too stiff for my liking, and coupled with The Office levels of S1 cringe, it did not really gel together well for what it wants to accomplish. Since EP10 though, its been smooth sailing. The antiquety show in the last episode especially was golden, Adam Sandler auction crashing and almost screwing up the bust is a memorable cameo, and is the best use of cameos since Friends, arguably. Can't wait to see the rest, 4 seasons of this is a good amount of comedy that I can enjoy.

One of the greatest sitcoms of all time, alongside Curb. Everyone should watch it.

It was a fantastic binge when I got Hulu.

Andre Braugher is a treasure and the chemistry between them all is fantastic.

Like Leslie knope, having Jake be an overwhelmingly postive person helps the show

I really love the show, the comedy is never mean spirited and it can always cheer me and put me in a better mood. Glad you're enjoying it OP.

It has one of the best ensemble casts around. Everyone is so lovable but especially Terry.

Also I love that it's good natured and not mean spirited. Hitchcock and Sculli get a lot of those kind of jokes but they usually are in on the joke.

I missed the last couple seasons & I've been catching up now. I was considering doing an LTTP myself. This show's been fantastic, & I'm so glad it got picked back up.

It helps because they've had a few episodes that showcase Hitchcock and Scully as competent detectives back in their day, and they offer insight maybe 10% of the time that's actually helpful. They're retired (basically) desk jockeys, and that's fine.

The Jerry stuff on Parks & Rec wore thin on me, but I don't see Hitchcock/Scully as punching bags. They're like, "Yeah, we busted a billion coke fiends in the 70s, and now we're doing paperwork until we get our pensions."

Completely different vibe that I'm 100% okay with.

Hitchcock and Sculli are those washed up detective uncles or family friend with legendary storiea from the 70s and 80s that every New Yorker has, as characters they are totally relatable and from the start they never felt like punching bags for me. Of course I am only 16 episodes in, but yeah.

I should probably try this again, I watched the first few eps when it first premiered but wasn't finding it especially funny (I think I wasn't into Samberg's character either). Clips I've seen since have been good though.

It's one of the best comedies of the past two decades, ranking up there alongside Parks & Rec, Community and The Office.

In the middle of a rewatch now.

When does this show get really good? I remember being sooo hyped for this show when I heard about it. A show from the Parks and Rec people with a great cast? Sign me up. I watched a few eps when it first premiered, and I was disappointed that it seemed like standard sitcom fare. Not bad but not up to my expectations, I guess? I want to give it another shot, though.

"Boy, Have I Been Missing Out" Title of your sex tape!

The show is such a gem and gets better as each season continues. The most recent season was probably the best it's been, especially their special 99th episode where they had to make it back to Brooklyn. Amy is amazing and I love Gina so much.

Watch the first season. That should be enough to know if you are sold on it or not.

I think it's pretty good, but I tend to enjoy more mean spirited comedies when all is said and done (Thick of It, Peep Show, Always Sunny are probably my GOATS)

I maintain that it has one of the best first seasons of any comedy that I've seen.

While Jake has to tone down a little bit, admittedly (and he does!), the show fires on all cylinders from Day One.

The first season is gold for sure, and like mentioned its one of the best first seasons, but not until Episode 10 like in my OP. If you feel weird about it watch until Thanksgiving smacks you over the head, and if at that point you still feel no need to watch the rest, then you can safely say its not for you. Again I am a newcomer binge watcher, but I can definitely tell when a show hits intended target and runs with it.

I never once thought "Andre Braugher: Comic Genius" until this show.
Seriously. I thought to myself, oh boy what a shitshow of a precint, and oh look here comes the angry black captain. Then he gets the ball rolling, and it just all clicks. Subverting the Angry Black Captain has never felt better.

How did you not enjoy the Halloween episode?
It was good, but the club scene irks me for some reason.

Started watching it too and really don't know what took me so long considering that I'm a fan of Parks and Rec and Andy Samberg. It's now one of the few American sitcoms I like.

I've only just finished season 1 but I'm in love tbh. I've never seen a sitcom with such a tight, refined cast where everyone was likable. Even The Office and Parks and Rec had a few stragglers but this is pitch perfect and hilarious

I love them all but team Gina til the end tbh

Fun fact: @terrycrews was the first to start yelling NINE NINE! on set. Usually on Monday early mornings or on a late night shoot to pump us up. Then, they started writing it into the show. He is our cheerleader and we love him for it!

Well dang... should I also tell you that Andy @thelonelyisland first started saying "cool cool cool cool cool cool" on set to make us laugh between takes and then they made it Jake's thing in the show...

I started watching the other day. I've only watched two episodes, but I don't think I've genuinely laughed once yet. I like most of the actors, though I find the main character somewhat grating. I just don't find the jokes that funny. I'm the first to admit that I'm a really tough crowd when it comes to sitcoms. I absolutely adore Community, but other than that the good ones are few and far between. Should I keep powering through a few more episodes, or is the show just not for me?

Never watched it even though the wife did. Then started watching one night at work, 15 eps later I went home and haven't stopped watching since.

Great show, so good from all sides.

It just keeps getting better and better. Once the actors really get a handle on their characters its just amazing. Captain Holt is incredible and steals every scene he is in with his delivery, especially when they let him start being a little more silly.

Those rare 80s flashbacks of holt are god damn amazing. The pool strangler one especially just sells him as this legendary supercop during the 80s.

Slimeball undercover Jake was wonderful.
Halloween II is the best thing named Halloween II. The captain is slowly becoming the best character.

I think it's pretty rare in most shows that the early characterizations don't feel like "oh shit we miscalculated" and more just the characters coming into their own.

Really the only thing that screams "this is an early episode" to me is how high Rosa's voice is compared to how low they ended up dropping it, and the fact that Jake and Gina's relationship sort of disappeared.

It's rare to have a sitcom that works so well in totum as well as discrete episodes.

They have at least one episode where they reveal they're actually competent detectives now, they're just lazy, and if they actually worked hard all the time people would have inflated expectations they would then have to meet.

Two totally different approaches to joke telling.

Brooklyn 99's first season takes a few episodes to really gets its stride, but it's a show built more on characters interacting with each other; which is pretty much a staple of all of Michael Schur's shows. Community is more about the individuals and the idiosyncrasies to them. Community is also much more about making references to itself and pop culture items.

Did you get to Adrien Pimento yet?
