Kind of hoped for more from J.A. Bayona but it's unfortunately still written by Colin Trevorrow

Oh well

EW -
The less you try to dissect it, the more you'll enjoy it.

Variety -
The first "Jurassic World" was, quite simply, not a good ride. "Fallen Kingdom" is an improvement, but it's the first "Jurassic" film to come close to pretending it isn't a ride at all, and as a result it ends up being just a passable ride.

TheWrap -
How hard is it to make running away from a rampaging dinosaur look at least a little exciting?

Vanity Fair -
But at least Fallen Kingdom considers the idea of letting go, making it a more thoughtful and interesting film than its immediate predecessor.

indieWire -
The franchise's latest entry takes its cues from the knuckleheaded plotting and CGI overload of Jurassic World, where super-sized dinos face dumb capitalists and bleeding-heart environmentalists toil to save the day. We all know the drill.

Village Voice -
...but it all just hangs there like so much else in this movie, undeveloped concepts that could one day be turned into a genuinely exciting, surprising film. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is, sadly, not it.

Newsday -
Fallen Kingdom sticks to the series' dependable template.

RT - 54% (RIP)

Currently sitting at 82 percent on RT. Guessing it'll end up with a similar score to the first one.

Something about this franchise makes me feel existential dread, like why can't we just let it go.

that Variety blurb is something. An improvement on not a fun ride, not even a ride at all, but it's a passable ride? STOP SAYING RIDE.

Yep sounds like a modern blockbuster

The CBM effect. Mediocrity like Infinity War and Wonder Woman being celebrated has led to this. This movie is more or less going to be as bad as Infinity War. I can already tell from the trailers how terrible the set pieces are going to be.

That's how I approach all pieces of entertainment I engage with. I honestly can't partake in the long drawn out discourse over at the gaming section because I don't enjoy my games that way.

Ironic gif considering the effect "letting old things die" had on star wars

People like dinosaurs and Jurassic Park. If anything I think Jurassic World went too off base from what the originals were about.

Give me more of that dinosaur mayhem! With only 4 movies prior over a 22+ year period, it's such a rarity for me to enjoy.

My body is ready.

I had no idea J.A. Bayona directed this--it immediately went from "wait for 4K" to "see in theaters." I don't really get the shit this series gets. It's about dinosaurs eating people. Every entry has been competent in that regard.

I wish Infinity War gave me a break from its poorly constructed action sequences to its pointless plot to its generic villain screaming population control.
Hey, how about we not turn this into a "I didn't like this completely unrelated thing so I'm going to derail this entire thread ranting about it" type of thread?

On topic, if reviews are decent I may see the movie. I've had zero hype up until now though.

I don't even like most of Marvel's productions but Infinity War was far from mediocre lol

But yeah, I'm expecting this one to be as much as a popcorn flick as the last. Competently made, but as deep as a puddle and ultimately forgettable.

"The less you try to dissect it, the more you'll enjoy it."

So basically it mimics everything Disney has been putting out. I'll pass until Netflix just like most every other "blockbuster". The last JP was really really bland.

Thanks Spielberg for giving us Colin Trevorrow

At least Kathleen Kennedy had the foresight to show him the door

So I take it you did not like Infinity War...

No. I hated it.

I am hoping one day shitty cash grab movies like this will die and we will have a new generation of blockbuster film makers similar to Spielberg and Cameron with actual craftsmanship who will direct good big budget movies. Fury Road cannot be the last good big budget action movie we see for another decade. I refuse to believe it.

Man the people that dislike this movie really dislike it, there's not much middle ground. Sounds kind of like the first JW.

Oh no, that's terrible, more movies for us CBM fans such as me and my family to spend on with the of caliber Wonder Woman and Infinity War?!

You can dislike Infinity War. Saying the fights are "poorly constructed" is simply wrong and bordering on trolling. No reason to try and derail the thread with such nonsense.

I liked Jurassic World 1. I like JA Bayona. Even if Trevorrow is still writing, I'm sure it'll be an improvement over the first.

It was at 82% and when I refreshed it it dropped to 69%. Never seen a drop that quickly.
