I still need to get this game, I love run n gun platformers so I have to get it sometime, plus I heard it's hard as hell which I like too.

I started playing this a couple hours ago and I've managed to finish the first island which I'm pretty chuffed about. It has certainly been quite the challenge! But I've loved every minute of it.

The game certainly has that masterful design of knowing that everytime you die it was your own fault, so you jump straight back in immediately to try rectify your mistakes.

So far all I'm using is the extra heart piece, but I know I'll have to start using other things if I want any kind of hope of making it to the end. I've bought the smoke bomb, but I haven't found it very useful as yet, well apart from the big blue bouncing ball thing, it was very useful against him.

I'd say I've found the run n gun missions harder than the bosses so far, they are a right pain in the arse!

Quoted the wrong person... Meant to quote the guy asking if this game is insanely hard. Dunno how to fix this on mobile lol.

Depends on your level of skill. I beat it on regular in two 3ish hour sessions, and did the odd level on expert, but quickly lost interest. I got a few perfect levels too.

I just started playing this and it is so good.

To have fun with it, one must accept death as a matter of fact and even as a necessity. I tend to be frustrated by this, but with no penalty for death other than trying again, I have let go and embraced the frantic jumping and shooting.

This is so good.

Waitttt. this is no longer just a boss rush mode??

How good is the platforming? What percentage of the game is platforming and boss fights? I cant imagine the platforming is anything but average if they added it in so late

Picked it up this weekend. Just finished A ranking the 1st island, now settling into the second. Awesome so far!

There's like a couple of platforming stages per world. It's still at least 80% a boss-rush game.

Yeah, it's somewhat trial and error based, but even on the hardest difficulty noone of the bosses take more than 2-3 minutes tops. So it's not like you can ever lose much progress.

Growing up, I would watch the old Superman and Gulliver's Travels cartoons put out by Max Fleischer, from which the cuphead animation seems to be inspired by. How does the game deal w/ the racial over-tones that were a big part of those old cartoons? Is it an issue at all? I haven't played cuphead yet, as I have a PS4 and a mac, otherwise I would explore.

I stumbled across this article today: https://unwinnable.com/2017/11/10/cuphead-and-the-racist-spectre-of-fleischer-animation/. Does this resonate?

There are no racial stereotypes in Cuphead.

As for the article, I don't agree with some of it, but I can tell you that neither Cuphead or the developers are racist.

Thanks for the info. I never meant to imply that cuphead or the developers are racist, only that some cartoons of the 30s were. I'm not sure I know enough about the game to decide if the aforementioned article has merit.

The animation does look beautiful. I've never seen anything like it in a game.

I didn't mean to accuse you, but you can't really expect any game made today to have any of the racial stereotypes found in those old cartoons.

How hard is the third island compared to the first two? Have managed to A rank everything and get all coins so far on the first two.

I love this game. I'm in the third isle and working on the robot. There is another boss that I still have to beat but I cannot remember which one. Some of the bosses are so creative and each seems to have its own strategy that works best. My favorite bosses have been the Bee, the Pirate and the Roller Coaster.

I wish I had more time to play!

I got my S and P ranks on everything for my first save. Then I did a save clearing the game with 0 deaths on normal (granted skipping like half the run and guns, just did enough to get the upgrades I wanted). Hopefully they make an online version of the co-op because otherwise I'm pretty much out of reasons to go back to the game.

I just beat the ghost train. It took me too many lives to complete. That second phase kept on screwing me and I had a real tough time seeing the rings on the fourth.

That said, when I did ultimately beat it, I didn't lose any HP. I think that may end up being my favorite one at the end of the day. Now I just have to beat the robot.

And the final bosses.

Beat it tonight!
Sort of an anti-climactic end boss imo? King Dice was crazy though!
But I'm not anywhere near done. Got about 6 more achievements left to comp it out, gonna be fun nabbing em all.

Just started playing and it's so gorgeous but it's making a mockery of my gaming skills (or lack of them).

I am using a 360 controller which was just the quickest solution at hand, but I can't blame my terrible performance solely on a bad d-pad. The buttons are a lot for my brain to handle - I changed lock to left trigger and super move to right trigger, with the bottom right button of the four main ones left unused. That's working better for me than the default set up, but it's only helped a little.

Any way - I'm really enjoying it and can see what a work of love it is. But I don't know if I will not have the patience or ability to play much longer. I got a 'double KO' on Hilda Berg after about 30 attempts and had to call it a day, my brain needs a rest!

After I changed my Dash to RB, Changed switch type of shot to LB, Lock on to LT and SUPER shot to RT I immediately started enjoying the game more.

It's so great

Just unlocked Pacifist. 3 trophies left:
1. Beat King Dice without getting hit
2. Clear the game on Expert
3. Beat a boss with only the bi-plane

Probably most worried about #1. Seems like it's going to take a ton of practice...

My non-Nintendo game of the year. My favorite boss fight so far was Baroness Von Bon Bon. Fuck the fucking jellybean for real though. I can't recommend this game enough.

I'm stuck in my last two bosses for the expert run: Hilda Berg and Wally Warbles. I had no trouble with Dr Kahl and the other plane bosses but these are impossible for me.

I've been working through s ranking everything; just started the third island last night, and Hilda Berg has without a doubt been the hardest. Every other boss has taken like an hour at most to s rank, but that one took me two consecutive evenings. The most helpful tip I can give is that the pink bullets shot from the mini blimps aren't random, and once I had which ones would be pink down to a science it really helped in terms of when and when not to use my super

1 isn't too bad. The easier bosses are #2, #5, and #8. They're pretty easy to no-hit.

With Dice, take the parrying really conservatively. Bounce multiple times per card. Equip coffee and go into the fight with a super - you'll be able to build up to landing two super attacks on him. It'll go by pretty quick.

Thank you I will check that later, in the end every detail that helps having more control of the area is helpful.

I read that for that achievement you can get damage during the first fights

For King Dice, you can get hit by any of his mini-bosses, but you can't get hit by King Dice himself. I was actually attempting the achievement the other day, until I realized that I already unlocked it. The joy of playing UWP games on PC and achievements not plopping.

Anyways, I'm at 126% completion right now. Took a break to test several games on my Xbox One X and I noticed that Cuphead doesn't really profit from the Xbox One X hardware. Load times are still pretty long, but I can manage since I'm doing one boss at a time anyways.

Where dat nerf patch at?

Hopefully it never releases. ;)

Popped the King Dice no-miss achievement, hoo baby was that hard! Thanks for the advice Mullet2000, Sioul and Akai. Ultimately, it came down to just familiarizing myself with how his card attacks work, and that meant even in games when I got hit, I would stick around just to bounce around on the cards and figure out where and when to parry.

For people having trouble with this achievement, some advice: for a pink card two cards in, regular jump and parry. Any pink cards 3 and deeper should be air dash→parry. Tricky thing is the timing there. You basically need to parry as soon as you come out of dash, like don't wait at all. If you can do that, you'll get the first bounce, and if you can keep going from there, you'll be able to move through the whole deck. Note that I popped it with the Invincibility super, but you could probably use the blast attack one no problem.

It's really hard, yeah. But it feels so rewarding when you figure out the correct pattern and beat a boss. I dislike the flight bosses the most so far. That fucking bird kicks my ass all the time.

I managed to find the last copy of the "physical" release of Cuphead at my Best Buy (I was emailed the digital code; it wasn't in the case!). The game is a looker and I love every piece of aesthetic. I beat The Root Pack with an A- on Nornal, but I'm going to have to backlog the game until I am finished with my others. I couldn't pass up on the last copy. Either way, I think this is going to be a fun and challenging ride. I'm looking forward to coming back to it.

I just beat the robot. He was tough but I eventually figured out a strategy that worked for me.

Definitely not my favorite boss though. I did like that the first phase doesn't actually take damage like phases of the other bosses.

In what has been an insane year for video games this game still makes it into my top ten for GOTY.

Also, I'm sure this has already been mentioned but for anyone coming in new to the game CHANGE THE DEFAULT CONTROLS. I played for 20 minutes or so with the default controls and just kept thinking "this can't be how they want me to play this game." Remaped ex. shot and dash to the bumpers and never looked back.
