Why?

If you don't like it why would you deprive other people who actually enjoy it?

People sticking the knife in at a mediocre sequel has destroyed many franchises.

Ghostbusters had only just come back and all the hate has pretty much destroyed any chance of a future movie.

Internet outrage didn't kill Ghostbusters' franchise potential, making $229 million on a $144 million budget did.

Studios don't give a fuck about what people think of their movies online. If it makes money, the sequels will pour in.

Fallen Kingdom isn't going to make less than a billion worldwide. So stop freaking out. No one's depriving anyone of anything. If your enjoyment of a movie or otherwise is that impacted by what anonymous nobodies say, start evaluating yourself.

Yes and why did it only make $229 million. The amount of hate the film got ever since it was announced. Then they announced a female team and the whole internet blew up. Every successive trailer got shit on and it 100% put people off going to see it.

In my anecdotal evidence as a member of a rather large Ghostbusters fan facebook group it put a LOT of people off who eventually wound up watching it when the bluray went on sale or on demand who said actually it wasn't as bad as people were making out.

You can't say that all the negativity didn't have an impact.

I don't get why people so actively want to see the franchise flop. It doesn't seem any worse than star wars or marvel movies yet somehow those are beloved and this is the man that ran over their puppy dog.

You kidding me? Jurassic World was much worse than any Marvel or Star Wars movie.

I mean you're looking at this from a pretty subjective standpoint. That said Jurassic World seemed about on par with Force Awakens or Thor Ragnarok for me. All these movies basically feel about the same so the sliding scale of quality with them is marginal. Everyone has their own taste though so no reason to put others down for liking something that you don't.

Yeah, no. TFA and Thor Ragnarok (which is a full on auteur piece of work) achieved a far greater level of ambition and artistry than Colin Trevorrow's hackneyed attempt at a blockbuster.

Really?

I thought Ragnarok was shit. It had style but it was just another Marvel movie with another terrible antagonist.

I don't know what you consider an auteur piece of work, but I think we get very different things out of mindless popcorn movies. I'm glad you found some sort of depth to a Thor movie though.

TFA is very much a JJ Abrams film and Ragnarok is very much a Taika Waititi film, auteurs don't have to just be highbrow arthouse filmmakers.

You're severely overestimating the impact of web cubbyholes and their campaigns of hate. Families went to see Ghostbusters and they drive the majority of business for a film like that, not 23-year old alt-right MRA dude.

The film managed a 2.78 multiplier, which is excellent. It had good audience reception; there just wasn't enough initial interest in the reboot.

In my anecdotal evidence as a member of a rather large Ghostbusters fan facebook group it put a LOT of people off who eventually wound up watching it when the bluray went on sale or on demand who said actually it wasn't as bad as people were making out.

Your anecdotal evidence means nothing really.

You can't say that all the negativity didn't have an impact.

On the contrary, I'd like to see evidence that the internet negativity had a notable impact on box office. Go for it.

i thought jurrasic world was one of the most boring and worst movies of that year. I don't get why it made so much money. Kids love dinosaurs, that has to be it right? At least with marvel movies people are invested in the franchise so it makes sense for them to make a lot of money.

I have no doubt I'm going to love this movie.

I loved Jurassic World.

And, mind you, Jurassic Park still reigns above all its sequels, but dumb fun is dumb fun. So many people seem to hate dumb fun and that just seems... dumb to me.

I liked Thor: Ragnarok and all, but I think it's pretty over the top to call it "auteur".

Auteur means the directors style is present and distinguishable throughout. Batman v Superman and Avengers and Michael Bay flicks could have that label applied to them too tbh

And I think ragnarok was iffy. The middle act with the gladiator planet felt most like Waititis work, but a lot of the asgard stuff was dull and annoyed me when they kept cutting to it

If he ever works with Marvel again they better let him cowrite next time and work on it from the ground up

I am probably a bad person because I want to see more dinosaurs but not a young smuggler that looks nothing like the one I am used to.

According to I read, that's exactly what Ragnarok was. When Waititi pitched it to Feige and Co they didn't even have a script and he was the one who sold them on the idea and themes of the film.

That film was a Waititi film from the start.

It's fascinating to me how many times I've heard "it looks shit but ehh dinosaurs I'm gonna see it". The general public's fascination with dinos only makes it weirder to me that dinosaur movies aren't a genre of themselves. Like, the most interesting part of FK is when it becomes a horror movie and reminded me of the video game Dino Crisis. A movie that fully committed to that, maybe with an R rating, could be pretty neat.

Yes, the horror-scenes were the standout parts of the movie, especially the opening part (sadly the best part of the film IMO) and Lockwood manor once "Frankensaurus Jr." is on the loose.

That 63% and red tomato might just be enough to convince people to turn off their brains and have fun, at the very least, and that might help the movie in the end.

Although it definitely looks like it will come in way below the first time in WW box office anyway.

If it dips below 60% tho...

That Ghostbusters remake is bad though.

Really bad.

Compare the structure of the first film's opening scene with the reboot's and you have the template for all the problems the reboot has throughout its runtime.

Eh no. There's no way Iron Man 2 or 3, Thor 2, or Attack of the Clones are that much better than Jurassic World if at all. Phantom Menace too if we're being brutally honest, by about the time Jar-Jar showed up on screen that May night, I would've gladly taken the "TPM alternative that's only about as good as Jurassic World" pill.

It's the first JP film that properly acknowledges the first film right down the musical cues and throwbacks to the old park logo, jeeps, etc. that's why that worked.

It is some what generic, but I still enjoyed as a huge fan of the first film. It was the sequel in many ways I was waiting for since 1993. JP2 and 3 just felt like their own things. That said I'm not going to pretend World is some great film but I enjoyed it.

I watched the double feature yesterday and JW is a much, much better film than when I originally watched it. So entertaining. It's one of the few films where 3D actually adds to the experience. And it's the movie that finally shows us what Hammond's park would have looked like and I love it. If you watch these movies for the story, you are obviously in the wrong place. But as action movies they are incredibly well done, yes, even when the assistant out of nowhere gets eaten in a minute long torture scene. The movie is intense.

I think ID4 is secretly kind of brilliant to be honest for what it is. The way it balances like 12 different characters in a pretty damn satisfying way is rare for a Hollywood event film.

Emmerich's other stuff ... not so much.

The first Independence Day, anyway. Resurgence though... nah (didn't bore me as much as Rogue One, but doesn't even reach the mediocrity of the likes of The Lost World or JP III).

Yeah that's why it never made any money...oh wait it made over a billion.
So by that logic the Transformers Franchise is the Citizen Kane of our time then!

Shit movies make money too.

JW was garbage. Couldn't even finish it. I just said fuck it and looked at my phone for the rest of the movie when that woman was running around in high heels ALL THE FUCKING TIME in a jungle. The motorcycle scene gave me a good laugh though.

SW prequels > JW
Transformers 2-4 > JW
Almost anything action-esque in recent times > JW

I say this as someone who was so gutted by The Phantom Menace getting mixed reviews that I physically felt like I had been punched in the stomach and had to turn off my computer ... there's no way TPM or AOTC are as good Jurassic World.

I would have done cartwheels of joy down the parking lot if the first two prequels were to Star Wars what JW was to the JP canon.

JW2 is basically an Emmerich movie in the first half and a Star Wars movie confined to one location in the second (without space ships and lightsabers, of course, though the latter are kinda in it?). It even has a Vader kills the emperor to save Luke scene, just with a shorter shaft.

They're comparable to me. Jurassic World is certainly more bombastic and crowd-pleasing but - seeing as I don't really give a shit about Star Wars but I wore my VHS copy of Jurassic Park out - Jurassic World was way more soul-destroying. The guy who trained velociraptors was the good guy! If people liked it, more power to them. I just can't bear more of the same at this point.
