This game is really a perfect fit for Switch in handheld mode with the shoulder buttons.

Damn this game looks good. I want to buy and play it but I've also never played Syberia and I'm a huge P&C fan. No idea what to do :/
Help me!

I've only played the intro so far

1. This games looks absolutely beautiful
2. The soundtrack is already amazing
3. Controls are perfect

Well, that's a good start.
And why does this game feel like a Nintendo game?! It's strange...in a good way of course.

I like the concept of this game more than I do playing it, but that's to be expected as I'm not a pinball guy.
The spider boss has confirmed this to me, that took me far longer than necessary even when I "get" which point I should be doing the flippy dippies.

Ha yeah I'm not good at pinball at all but still enjoying this. Sometimes it takes me way longer to do things than it should just because I have trouble hitting the right spot.

Finished the game today. So clever and low stress. Is there a way to get back in

the juicery if you screwed it up? I thought maybe the gang would let me in since I helped them and they all like me, but the grumpy guy still won't let me back in.

Just a small little anecdote about this game...

My wife is not a gamer (for the record I actually love this fact, I have something for myself and we both enjoy the "me" time we both get whenever I play).

She is usually pretty annoyed if I have a game on in the background. Especially if you are not a gamer, games can be rather loud and annoying. Especially the ones I tend to play.

The minute I started playing this game she was whistling along with it right away.
Her exact words were "why can't all of your games sound as soothing as this one?"

Fairly shortly after the above happened I got the "horn" whenever you press A, and she changed her mind rather abruptly, but just the fact she originally felt what she did is a testament to how damn catchy the music is.

I completed the game tonight and I really enjoyed it. The game oozes creativity and is a fun and chill experience from start to end.

I keep forgetting this thread is here.. Anyway, to repost from the June eShop thread..

Just finished.

Yoku Island Express is an Incredibly charming, extremely chill kind of game that took two (of my favorite) genres not commonly associated with one another and blended them together to make not only something wholly unique and special, but easily the best game I've played all year.

Kudos Team 17 and Villa Gorilla.

Anyone else bump off this after a short while?

I'm finding it so hard to navigate the world without any sort of guide or signposts for basic route finding, and I don't know what my next objective is.

Admittedly I find this to be a common with most Metroidvanias. Once I become stuck I'll backtrack and be completely lost for a long time. Yoku makes this worst because the pinball makes the routes especially strange.

Have you unlocked the Beeline's yet?

If you haven't, they speed up backtracking significantly .. Though, to be fair, it's still sometimes a slog to get to certain areas. Also, your next objective should be on the map via signpost.

You also also should never need to do a table again once you "complete" it.

I haven't unlocked the Beeline. I still haven't made it over/across the waterfall and I can't find the way over.

Your objectives are displayed as signs on the map. The map can be zoomed in two steps and moved freely, to help you find the routes in the areas you have visited.

Don't treat the game as a linear experience. Explore! The routes become clear.

This is how I backtracked to the start of the game and ended up lost/bored/annoyed. :) I'm sure the tangled knot of routes become incredibly clear if you have a good sense of direction.

That is fair. I will say: make good use of your map. Look for undiscovered areas and see if you can work your way in. Check for hidden passages.

I played for another half hour, running into the NPC that said I should plant the seed by the salty air and gulls. I tiresomely found a route to the beach only to find nothing.

I think I'm probaly done with this, sadly. I'm just too bad at it.

Edit; I like the game lots in theory, and it must be great for most other people. I just am especially bad at this type of progress block.

It's a pity you can't enjoy the game. I'm usually pretty bad with orientation myself but it never felt a big problem in this game for some reason. I just pinballed my way through the world while the map unravelled. If you play each "table" and go from there, it should all go pretty much automatically. That being said, it took me a while to remember the fastest routes to revisit certain areas but it did eventually by playing. Maybe take a break and come back with fresh motivation sometime in the future?

This was already after a break, but maybe in a month or two I'll return with a walkthrough or something. Always tricky when the universal response is 'it was easy for me', and everyone else is having a frictionless experience. That's okay tho. Thanks for taking the time to reply :)

I looked up what I had to get the beesuit last night and It made me want to stop playing.

The complete lack of direction in the back half of this game is breaking my balls.

FWIW, the beesuit isn't required to complete the game. It's an extra puzzle.

That's even more frustrating because if that'st he case, I have 0 idea where to go.

Between the map bugging out to show open chests as closed and the complete lack of feedback from the characters, I'm just getting fed up.

The game is very simple in its basic structure:
1. Go to the village
2. Talk to first NPC in village. NPC gives you a task of 3 NPCs to talk to.
3. Visit all these 3 NPCs
4. Go back to village and talk to NPC at #2

Between the map bugging out to show open chests as closed and the complete lack of feedback from the characters, I'm just getting fed up.

IIRC, there's a specific item found late in game that will specifically highlight the closed chests.

I've done all that. they're all stuck in their loops. They just tell me to finish getting the instruments but won't tell me where to do that.

Just finished he main game at 50%. Excellent game that I'd probably never touch if I hadn't heard about it on the Eshop thread. Will definitely go back to try and get 100%. Though here are my thoughts on the final boss:

What a heel turn by Kickback pretending to be an ally and all the sudden Kickback was the God Eater all along! The opening but was neat to navigate through the area and then relying on a slug to damage Kickback first. Then you're in this arena where you can get knockdown in a pinball table, but can get back in the arena. The fight itself was, but got repetitive when I kept hitting Kickback in the air and then launched myself to hit him on the ground. I wished they changed his attack patterns in the middle of the fight.

After you wipe out most of his health, he finally enters into his final form and puts Yoku in a trapped spot. This leads to a multi ball portion where I launched Undertask people into slug bubbles. I didn't know what I was doing at first, but then I realized I was making a slug dynamite line and Yoku just had to blow his noisemaker to create a satisfying line of explosions to defeat the final boss! The fight could have been a bit more varied, but the conclusion was super amusing!

As of right now, this game is a shoe in on my top 2018 games list!

The instruments are in the village. IIRC, there was a zoom in on the place, or a sign on the map or something when they told you about the instruments.

Anyhow, here's where they are:
just above where they are standing in the village

The slug mechanic really drags this game down. Why it takes so long for you to suck them up is beyond me. 9 times out of 10 you destroy them and have to do the same shit over and over again.

Hmmm I think I'm stuck with one of the quest

So I have the quest to talk to the dude in the top left to get the climbing gear. He asked me to get his 6...things which I did. He cleaned them. Now the ! is still on him but when I talk to him all he does is talk about the Space Monks lifting off and that they will watch from the top balcony. I go there (at the top of that building where there's a dude and a chest) but I'm not seeing anything special?

How do I actually continue that quest?
