Two other developers want the land PSV wants and presented at a community meeting last night, where two council members were present.

https://communityimpact.com/austin/...emerge-for-coveted-austin-owned-mckalla-site/

"Capella Managing Partner Neil Francois said his firm first became interested in the McKalla site almost four years ago when the company was approached to develop an adjacent 3-acre parcel of land. Capella announced plans last week for its North Gateway Plaza to have a 22-story multifamily high-rise and 11-story office building, both of which include seven floors of parking.

Francois said Capella met with city officials, including former City Manager Marc Ott, numerous times and that the city had planned on released a request for proposals for McKalla last year. He also said the city told them the land was valued at $29.5 million, although other reports indicate the site is valued closer to $8 million."

Apparently there were bonds issued to help fund remediation and/or water dept activity on the site which may be the reason we are seeing the $29m number.

Business might be picking up.

Earnie Stewart is going to take the USMNT GM job. I edited my post, thanks!
Cool, thanks. Sounds like it's been headed that way for a while. I think he might do a good job given the right situation, but most reports say that he doesn't really have enough power in the new position to institute much change. :/

Own Goal: The Inside Story of How the USMNT Missed the 2018 World Cup

Klinsmann blamed the poor results on referees, and privately told U.S. Soccer officials that he believed some of the matches were rigged.

Players described routinely having to figure out positions in the tunnel on the way onto the pitch.

Now, posed with a question about what should happen with Klinsmann, Dempsey wanted no part of it. "I wouldn't have done this to your father, and I'm not doing this now," he told Bradley, according to multiple sources within the team. "I just want to score goals and go fishing."

Asked if there was a single snapshot of that night burned into their memory, multiple players recall the sight of Pulisic, the most blameless person in the entire catastrophe, still in full uniform, weeping in the shower.

Yea, the whole thing was a mess. Reading this, I'm shocked we made the last World Cup.

A lot of this we knew, but tons we didn't. Dempsey shouldn't have ever been captain and Gulatti should have had some balls.

The thing is, this barely even touches how Klinsmann all but ignored bringing in younger players after Brazil. He'd barely even look at MLS when it came to this.

That's not even getting into how fucked up the locker room got. The US used to be a team that would routinely punch well above it's weight simply because they had a "never say die" attitude and always had each other's backs. Whoever comes next has to be the sort of coach that can get that feeling back because there's a lot of talent coming up right now and with that attitude of old (combined with the talent they seem to have) they could shock some people.

If I remember correctly you were a pretty unabashed Klinsmann hater over on the old site and I always thought you were a little crazy. Welp, you were right.

There were indeed bonds on the site, I believe. They were around $21 million so that plus the $8 million valuation on its own gets you to $29 million.

Also the meeting crowd laughed at PSV's shuttle parking idea.

Too many first team guys missing this week, call ups ups decimated the team's best 11. If we make it to the next round it'll be a miracle.

Edit: oh, for you. I'm not able to watch the game tonight, has Vieiera adjusted your game plan or is he still trying to play through the middle?

Vieiera wants to continue his same game plan that hasn't worked.

Jesse hasn't implemented the secondary wide press that Leipzig uses so if he were to force the ball out there he could tire RBNY out faster.

Anyway, he probably doesn't care about open cup. The organization never has. And besides that it's rumored this is his last week before moving to Nice.

Honest question, do MLS fans care about the Open Cup?

If NYCFC could remember how to play soccer when they face the Redbulls, that would be great.

It's a style issue. When one team plays out the back and into the middle and the other presses super high and in the middle it's probably going to go badly for the team playing out the back. Vieira needs to adjust his strategies if he wants to compete.

Not sure what Vieira is thinking running the same strategy out there over and over. I hope they don't do this shit again in the Bronx.

It's definitely part of it, but it's also how local RBNY's team is. There's a bunch of guys that grew up watching the squad, dreaming of playing in a big rivalry game, getting to live that dream. So they give everything they have and then some. Everyone on every team gears up big time for a rivalry match, but the local guy who grew up watching is going to gear up way more than normal.

I also hope Vieira adjusts, because as much fun as it is winning like this I do kinda want these games to be a bit more competitive.

Might go to the ATL/CHI match

I kinda hope it's at Kennesaw State rather than Mercedes Benz, just to see how the atmosphere is like there in-person. It looked pretty good for the Atlanta/Charleston match last night.

This summer, the eyes of soccer fans all over the nation will turn to Atlanta. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be on a global stage, so let's show the world what soccer in the ATL looks like.

Immediately following the 2018 World Cup final on July 15th, FOX will switch over to broadcast Atlanta United's home match versus the Seattle Sounders. To celebrate, we're throwing an epic World Cup Viewing Party presented by Coca-Cola at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Everyone with a ticket to the Atlanta United vs Seattle Sounders match is invited to come early and watch the World Cup final at our stadium in downtown Atlanta. All you need is a ticket for the match to attend. More details still to come, but save the date and secure your tickets now.

Just found out that I may be going to this. Pretty excited

I kinda disagree with Warshaw that the press would be easier to implement. You need specific types of players at a specific fitness level to pull it off and the pressing schemes can get pretty complicated and require everyone to buy in and be totally insync to pull off, if even one guy is a step late it all falls apart. Most of the guys coming up right now could pull it off, I think we mostly have the right kinds of players right now, but that's only best 11. Pretty much everyone in the front four needs to be able to play make and score, so I'm not sure if the depth is there to do it.

Plus it wouldn't work on anyone in region except Mexico, since there's a lot of bunkering among CONCACAF teams.

I think the conclusion that Doyle comes to in the end - that it'll be some sort of a synthesis of pressing/possession - is the correct one. As they note, the USMNT won't be able to hold lots of possession in certain situations, and they won't be able to high press all the time, but having a team capable of improving and implementing both, and with some semblance of an actual tactical plan, is certainly a step forward.

Nope, at the Benz. I think the tickey demand would outstrip 5/3.

City council member in Austin: Precourt Sports Ventures' stadium plan 'looks like a massive giveaway'

Leslie Pool, a city council member in Austin, Texas, whose district includes the city-owned site eyed by Crew SC operator Precourt Sports Ventures as a possible stadium location, on Thursday detailed her concerns with the group's 189-page stadium proposal as well as its general approach to a potential move from Columbus.

After a detailed review with her staff, she said, the plan "doesn't pencil out."

"It looks like a massive giveaway," Pool said. "Precourt Sports Ventures, they don't want to pay property taxes but they want the city to cover most of the cost for them without any revenue to pay for it, which we could get from the property taxes."

Pool as said multiple times throughout PSV's seven-month pursuit of a stadium solution in Austin that she does not want to be rushed into a deal. She said she has heard similar concerns from her constituents.

"They've pointed to boondoggles, that you're being hoodwinked when people create a false sense of urgency, that you have to do it now because if you don't do it now then this deal is going to go away," Pool said. "That's a time-honored approach for a used-car salesman. 'This car isn't going to be here at this price tomorrow.' I'm constitutionally reluctant to be pushed like that. That's not fair and it's not a public process in my mind.

"That's not how a governmental entity should be making policy or decisions for the taxpayers."

Pool argued that PSV, based on its proposal, is attempting to privatize public land.

"They want all the benefit from it — the gate fees, the merchandise, concessions, advertising, you name it — and they don't want to pay property taxes and (want to) keep all the revenue," she said. "They want to privatize this public land and then require the city of Austin taxpayers to shoulder that tax burden and pay for those benefits for them. They haven't given me any reason except that it's soccer, which I don't think really rises to the (acceptable) level. That's a concern."

Jesus Christ. That's about as blunt and honest of an assessment as I've seen from anyone outside Columbus with any sort of power. Councilwoman Pool is seeing right through the charade.

We're having to pay the piper for SunTrust Park right now, with parks and libraries and aquatic centers having to close because of a budget shortfall.

Hopefully I can move out this county before the housing market tanks.

Huge fucking twist in the Crew-to-Austin saga:

McKalla Place has a new bidder. They have a potential fuckton of money (John Chen is, I believe, the Blackberry CEO) and they want to buy the property from the city for just above market value.

Additionally, another huge plot of land opened up in downtown Columbus today. They seem to be saving it for Amazon's HQ2 but Columbus won't get it. It's the huge area behind COSI in Franklinton.

I don't watch MLS often, but I'm watching this Philly and Toronto game. Man Philly has had chances but can't do anything in the final third lol.
