Ugh I just can't anymore. I like the show but the pacing angers me way too much. I think I need to take a season or two off then just binge.

God this show is so fucking dumb.

A handful of walkers that you can poke your finger through can overpower a 500-700 pound Tiger. Right. One swipe and they'd have literally been torn in half with how squishy the show portrays them.

I liked the episode... but showing Shiva get mauled like that was depressing and crazy. She should've overpowered them easily.

That was the first great episode of the season. Hopefully they keep it up.

(But the fact that the "all out war" with Negan started and we haven't seen him for 5 episodes is ridiculous.)

I'd say the only real negative was the horribly cast Negan baddie. God he was terrible.

He was a terrible actor and those gigantic glasses certainly didn't help.

Sucks that the tiger died, but really it just ate budget. They didn't do a single interesting thing with it, best to drop it here in the service of totally knocking Ezekiel to rock bottom. He got hit super hard and I really felt bad for him, something the show rarely makes me do these days.

The tiger was actually in more episodes of the show than it was in issues of the comic, believe it or not! (9 vs. 6) She was always basically just a plot device, a means of activating a specific trajectory in Ezekiel's development. RIP girl

My brother and I watched the season 6 outpost massacre again, and the action felt distinctly more gritty and better handled than anything we've saw in the S7 finale and this season. I wonder who handled the action in that episode, or the season 5 premiere or the Wolves attack, because those segments are a far cry from what we get now
Yeah, the other battles made more sense and were better directed. But I guess if they have to drag this out for 8 episodes, it is what it is.

Why do I keep watching this shit?
Probably the same reason why most people kept watching Lost. You just want to see how everything ends.
For me Rick is definitely the one pillar that keeps the show interesting. Its definitely fascinating to see the Walter White -> Heisenberg effect on him (though not as clever as they pull it off in BB ).

Wow this show is so bad. Let's stop for 5 minutes for dialog while the walkers who were right on our ass make no progress toward us. Let's have an axe cut a man from skull to mid-sternum, through a fuck-ton of bone, and then that same axe can't cut a chain. Let's have Carol shoot about 80 zombies in the head through a chain link fence. Let's have a 50 cal not completely fuck up a jeep, or even when we have the radiator blown the jeep continues to run perfectly fine.

Just... ugh. There's no scene consistency. It's so fucking bad.

Yep. I'm one of the ones who have been cynical about the show for years now and I was still surprised at how cheap the developments were. The one that really got me was that guy cutting another human being in half with no problem yet he struggles with the chain. Oh, also the useless turret gunner. He couldn't even hit the windshield!

Best episode of the season. Not a fan of how Shiva died, she should've either gone down killing way more zombies or they should've shown her injured from a gunshot or something. Ah well.

I really don't know why show the time jump on season opener and not follow up on it. It really doesn't show any purpose that confuse the viewers.

These gunfights are dragging .

So was I the only one who heard the score from Independence Day kick in when the speech was being given at the beginning of the episode? Too many pep rallies this season already!

I'm so glad you brought this up. This shit was pissing me off the whole way through. I really really want to like this show again. I thought the second half of season 7 was headed in the right direction. We had a strong opening this season. But since then it's been nothing but people shooting things for 40 minutes. And I really hate to be the cynical viewer that's shits all over the show, but god damn guys. Don't make it so easy for me. Ezekiel and his army would have been cut to ribbons. Some of them were. Creepy 70s weirdo guy comes out of nowhere to taunt Ezekiel, axe man cuts him clean in half, but can't cut through a rusted out chain. Rick chases down 50 cal and the gun doesn't do shit to his Jeep? Just a little smoke coming out of it. No big deal. Cartoon tiger shows up at a super convenient time. Also fuck Daryl. When are they gonna do anything remotely interesting with his character? He's just action man. No feelings, no personality. Nothing. My brother refers to him as a bow with a guy on it. That's exactly what he is. I only just caught up on the past 3 episodes today and Jesus, what a bunch of morons our heroes are. I'm sure it'll follow the formula. First 8 episodes are dragged out shit fests, then the next 8 is where things actually happen.

I don't know how much longer I can take these firefights. I feel like it's what this show does the worst and that's all this season has been so far.

yup action consistency is poor for WD. Same with the rules for the universe. Sometimes walkers can do X and sometimes they can't. Its very frustrating.

Still this episode was much better in lots of ways. It was totally 80's action show, even with a baddie with the 80s oversized glasses. There was even some tension again with walkers, Although they still struggle to get enough extras into the scenes, it makes everything seem unreal.

How many people are suppose to be living in the kingdom?

Carol in badass mode was nice too. Hiding in the roof and opening the gates while distracting the guys was decent TV.

They need to pay someone just to do all the action, because that's really where this shit falls down.

also Shiva :(

I hate Ezekiel so freaking much. I think I hate all of the characters actually, but Ezekiel especially. Cant stand his goofy ass gimmick.

The transition from comic to big screen has been really really lame, IMO. I think he would work a lot better without the drama/theater accent and just had everything else.. maybe people just call him King Ezekiel? I dunno. It could have been done better but in all honesty it's kinda hard to tell because it worked so well in the comic.

However, the guy who plays him is fantastic and really delivers his lines well when he's talking to Carol/letting his guard down.

He was a terrible actor and those gigantic glasses certainly didn't help.

I just don't understand TWD casting sometimes. I really don't get it. Also, I'd like to see a few guys who actually resemble REAL PEOPLE in the Saviors. It's absurd that 99% of the people they come across are evil assholes pushing the same tired schtick.

They have to all be evil asshole jerks. If they weren't it would be obvious that Rick is worse than they are.

See this is where I think the show messes up. Rick made a cold, calculated decision to strike first, but he didn't do it because he wanted to be god emperor Negan. He did it as a precaution.. because he saw how dangerous they could be, saw the pictures of skulls being bashed in. He doesn't have a lust for blood or pain/suffering.

Rick didn't kill because he's an evil asshole, like Negan is presented in the show, he does it to survive, or at least from his point of view.

So you don't need to have every single savior be a mustache twirling bad guy. It makes the saviors far less believable and really detracts from the show when you could be showing more people like Dwight, who struggle with their decision to follow Negan blindly.

Because.. they're still people, and there should be plenty of folks who just do what he says because he's in charge but secretly hate him. I thought the comic did a much better job of portraying that.

Rick been crazy for a while now. Though he kind of yoyos back and forth (along with several other characters).

And where is dearest corral? He feels so forgotten.

I get that this was an episode focused on stripping Ezekiel down, from self-proclaimed King living in his Disneyworld fantasy land to "hey motherfucker this is the zombie fucking apocalypse." That whole "I'm still smiling" schtick gets wiped away by the time we get to the end.

It's just that the wrapping this gift came in was horribly done. There's so little focus on making the details right that the overall outcome is just ... meh.

Someone help jog my memory here -- at what point did Negan learn that Maggie was alive? I don't recall that happening.

I think it was the season finale last season, when they're all fighting Negan in Alexandria. Maggie and The Hilltop show up to help fight the Saviors, and Negan's surprised to see her. It's been a while though, so I might be wrong.

It's weird to me that he is demanding that she be kept alive and captured if possible. She's not the leader of Hilltop......as far as Negan knows she doesn't have any kind of strategic value.

I just got caught up with this new season, what is even going on anymore. I saw like three different Ricks, that Rick with beard and grey hair looked dope.-

I think the premier was a flash forward/dream sequence combined. The Jesus Rick was the dream sequence and the flash forward being him somewhere clearly distressed and shook AF. That's probably when he's dreaming of this.

Fuck sake, now I'm 2 episodes behind. That's pretty much insurmountable at this stage even though I have so much free time.

Finally all caught up on TWD, and man, it's so jarring when coming right off of Fear the Walking Dead. I know we're talking about shows with zombies, but Fear seems so much more grounded and believable, while the original show has... well, Ezekiel and Shiva, for one.

Don't get me wrong: I am enjoying this season so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes in relation to the comics. But at nearly every point, I've been asking myself, "How are these two shows set in the same world?"

Lol I feel like TWD suffers from the opposite problem GOT does, it's being held back by it's source material. Not that I trust the writers of TWD, but the source material will spin it's wheels for all eternity, and a TV show needs more development than that.

In shows or films that require a suspension of disbelief you have to have a certain level of quality in areas like writing, dialogue, acting ability of the cast etc. You take Game of Thrones for instance. A show with dragons, zombies, and magic. The world and characters feel believable and realistic despite all of the fantasy elements.

Contrast that with this show. The writing is laughable, the dialogue is corny and cringey, and outside of maybe 3-4 characters at this point (Rick, Carrol, and Darrell) the acting is amateur level stuff. Like, fan made YouTube tier level acting. It's so hard to feel any kind of emotional response to these scenes and circumstances that the show runners are trying to draw out of me when I'm just rolling my eyes and thinking "yeah fucking right" the whole time.

That was one of the worst episodes in ages in terms of eye rolling. The tiger basically Gandalfing itself to save Ezekiel at the end there? Really?! We see weak little characters on this show killing these zombies by effortlessly sticking blunt objects through their skulls as if they were jello, yet a massive tiger gets destroyed? Come on...

If I hadn't invested years and years into this show I'd have dropped it a while ago. Just can't stop now no matter how bad it is.
