I beat Dark Souls :)

intestesting, frustrating, and horrifying experience that i hope i never go through again

Praise the Sun bro :P

It really is a unique experience. I'm glad I took the dive, and apart from being fun it also honestly made me think about the way I approach games, and even challenges in general sometimes.

Going into Quelag's Happy Hollow now. Went in through Blightown the back way, same as my original play through, and I just never felt the horrible pain of this area. I'm sure having the Spider shield both times helped too. I mean, sure the performance sucked in the original, but for whatever reason I've been at a relatively comfortable place both times I've played it through.

I'll probably go back out the front as I did in the original, maybe the fact that I do that after "beating" the area helps it not seem so hopeless lol.

Edit: multiplayer broken? On PS4, all summons fail. And no I didn't try to summon for Quelag, why would I do that? Pssh. Get out of here.

Do you keep your weapons and other equipment in NG+?

With the Great Hollow and Ash Lake out of the way all that's left for me to do is the DLC, look for any items/upgrades I might have missed and go to the final boss.

I am not good at this game, and got Capra the first try.

Following advice on this thread, I slashed one dog immediately, rolled past the demon and up the stairs. Second dog followed me up, slashed. After that, just kept either drop attacking the demon from the stairs, or when he followed me up, jumped down, waited, got my two hits in and ran back up.

I have a +5 katana, wondering if its worth it to make it lightning or is there something more effective? Any perks to divine?

When you run up the steps there's a lip on the wall you can walk on to get to the corner on the right, then just sit there with your shield up. He'll try to attack you and fall, then you can just plunge attack him.

What's the earliest I could feasibly go after The Four Kings?

I have never gone Kaathe/Darkwraith route before and I'm hovering around SL25. Haven't even gone to Gaping Dragon yet.

I've beaten Sif, drained the water, but I don't think I want to venture into New Londo let alone the boss room without some aid.

My very weak build has something to do with that.

*sigh*

It's hard helping fools with Manus when they A) don't have the Silver Pendant or B) decide to stand right next to him when he does his Frenzy Combo.

Erm. What the Fuck.

I'd like to know more from people with knowledge, was that definitely a hacker?

Good moves getting out quick either way lol. I would be furious about cheaters on PC.
100% a hacker. You can't even do normal multiplayer sessions (summons or invasions of any kind) in Ash Lake. It's probably that Malcom hacker everyone's been talking about.

Playing Dark Souls online on PC seems like a damn gamble. Gotta keep save backups or that guy can destroy your save file. From really should enable the VAC protection.

A part of me sees how it is meta-trolling in a Dark Souls fashion, but I do not think it is okay at all. I agree it should be stopped and don't understand why it hasn't been.

Sticking with this Astora's Straight Sword through Stray, Gargoyles, and Moonlight... I know there are better choices, but it's served me well. I really like how attached you can get to even the most basic weapon. I like the balanced speed, reach, and moveset. Those stone guys in Darkroot go down in just a few two-handed R2s, and it seems to stagger pretty easily too. We'll see how long it remains effective, but so far, so good! Already forgot to chop of the Gargoyle tail though. Oh well, next time through!

My first playthrough of Dark Souls I used the Longsword for the entire game. I still love that weapon it has a great moveset.

God damn, the Avelyn sure was a pain in the ass to get.
You're gonna hate me, but...
Stand on the side above Avelyn, go on the stairs and turn the switch, then reload your game. You'll respawn right above avelyn, with the stairs turned, creating an opening for you to drop. Old trick that still works in the remaster, heh.

What is your first weapon? But yes, the BSS is a good weapon. Uchi/iaito/Chaos Blade (whichever katana you'd prefer), great scythe, falchion, Quelaag's furysword are among the best dex weapons.

So after finally playing this, I absolutely, 10000% do NOT understand why "praise the sun" is a meme.

I never even unlocked the gesture.

Holy shit! I had no idea you could do this. I have played this game for 1500+ hours across it's platforms and I love that I find something new every time I play it.

so i'm finally playing bloodborne— thanks ps plus— and loving it so far, haven't felt this impressed by a video game in a long time, and i've got my eyes on this game next. but from what i'm hearing, it's not really worth the money. still, seeing how i never played dark souls proper, is it still worth it? or will i miss the 'dark souls experience' if i play this first?

my friend insists i will, but she's more bull headed than a bucking bronco, lol, so i sort of want a second opinion.

If you've never played DS1, how is it not worth the money? Also, those haters quieted after release. It's Dark Souls 1 at 60FPS, that alone justified its existence. As far as playtype, after playing BB it might take a while to adjust to the slower combat of DS1. But yes, all Souls games are great (except maybe DS2).

I don't know if I've just been hacked on the Xbox or what. I ran out from the bonfire in Undead Parish and I saw a glowing item on the ground (looked kind of like a cross between a sack, halloween lantern, or the estus flask). Upon picking it up I was given a titanite shard.

Will have to wait and see I guess.

to be honest with you, if the 60fps is nice and smooth, that's all i need to hear, haha.

i am worried about the speed, though. i remember giving it a try once and being put off by the glacier pace. do you have any build suggestions for a dark souls beginner who's used to faster gameplay? i bumbled my way into a bloodtinge/skill build for bb, and while it was worth it— slicing through enemies like butter with chikage never fails to give me a rush of blood— i'd like to try something a little less challenging next time.

After what must've been 30+ attempts I finally learned how to beat S and O consistently on NG+.

Trick for me was to fast roll and stay close. That way Orstein cant use his glide attack. Definitely had to make use of the pillars. Shame about the clipping in the fight though so it's hardly fool proof.

Rest of the game should be cake now at least.

I do not think that fight was designed to be no-shielded or played solo.

So I just spent an hour running up and down stairs dropping off rotating platforms to my death countless times, and all this time I could of cheesed it?

FUUUUUUUU!!!!!!

That is pretty cool though.

This is literally the best version of DS1, especially for new players. It's the same game with a higher, locked framerate (the visuals aren't even that touched up, honestly). You will absolutely not miss the experience, lol.

A dexterity build is probably your best bet if you want faster-paced combat. I came to this game from Bloodborne, went with a strength build and missed having speed BADLY. Dexterity is the ideal way to play for me personally.

I hate how this game is dead silent sometimes. I play with headphones and sometimes I have to check whether or not they are on because of the complete lack of ambiance in some areas.

If only you could be so grossly incandescent as the rest of us.

You need to join the Warriors of Sunlight covenant at the sunlight altar just below the hellkite drake to get the gesture. But you need 25 faith to join. Helping others fight bosses cooperatively lowers that requirement by five points.

An upper ledge in that area has a useful item that can help kill the Armored Tusk.

When you get it, read its item description and
throw it into the fire

Thanks. Though I manged to kill him without the special item. Now I'm upto the Bell Gargoyle and need to get better at my timing. At least I found the bonfire that's relatively close. Even with the shortcut ladder that you get in the Undead Berg next to the previous bonfire, it's a long trek to get back to that boss.

Yep, if you're looking for some faster gameplay you should go with a DEX build. You'll probably want to use something like the Uchigatana and have really light armor (perhaps Shadow Armor to complete the full ninja vibe). Just pour your stats into DEX and Endurance. However, you best make sure you get good at dodging because if you get hit you're going to feel it.

And, the remaster if worth it. It improves on the original in a lot of ways without changing the actual gameplay of the original on top of the 60 FPS bump.

On a separate note, I finally decided it was time to move on to NG+.
Gwyn really gave me a hard time because I wanted to fight him a certain way (In full Artorias gear plus his sword and relying mostly on parrying), but he proved more troublesome than I liked. I ended up beating him with Artorias' sword but went back to my trusty Wanderer Coat.

This damn game. I joined the Forest Hunter covenant, Shiva appeared and I killed his bodyguard for the ring. Except he falls right off the edge and the item he dropped is halfway down the cliff. I had already died once by Shiva's hand and I had a bunch of soft humanity and like 100k souls, so this seemed like I good idea to use one of my Rare Rings of Sacrifice. I equip it, quickly drop down, loot the drop and... 1 humanity.

I run back with the Ring of Fog and Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring — nobody notices me, not the NPC hunters and not Shiva himself — and the ring simply lies on the ground behind him. Meaning I completely wasted that Rare Ring of Sacrifice.

Oh well. Live and learn.

Now to Oswald to pay for my crimes.

Edit: haha, nevermind. Completely forgot Oswald, bless his soul(s), also sells Rings of Sacrifice.

On playthrough 4, I finally got into the Warriors of Sunlight with my Faith/Dex build. I didn't even know it was a thing, and does the prompt to inspect that broken statue there even pop if you don't meet the minimum requirement? Even though it was a little hidden in DkS2, it was way more obvious there. Oh well, glad to be a part of it and to have at last gotten the gesture.

Is there a way to get the bellowing dragoncrest ring without levelling up int? Griggs won't sell me anything but I could use it for pyros...

You need to get the Dark Wood Grain Ring. It makes your character dodge/roll faster and gives you slightly more invincibility frames. Also be sure to wear light armour as you need to be 25% or less in equipment load.

Yeah but... min maxing

LOL I get that but the lowest starting INT is 8 and I personally would much rather have the 20%+ damage boost on your Pyromancies vs 2 stat points but that's just me. The choice is yours...

EDIT: You can always use the Crown of Dusk for a 20% damage boost without any stat investment.

If you do it when you're still low level, it won't feel like such a big investment either.

I just started the DLC. Guess I could have expected to be greeted by a boss fight right off the bat, haha. Luckily it was an easy one at this point in the game.

Finished Siegmeyer's quest tonight. Hit me right in the feels at the conclusion.

Decided to jump into the DLC before finishing the game. It's funny because it reminded me a bit of Bloodborne more than the base game.

As for the bosses, I've beaten them all except Kalameet. Damn that lightning. I'll get it tomorrow I'm sure but that was a challenge.

Manus was a loooong fight. He's aggressive as hell, but imagine my shock and joy at seeing
Sif! I felt bad killing him but the fact that I could bring him back for this fight was great, even if he was only good as a distraction.

I'll most likely finish the game tomorrow having beaten all bosses. It's been a great run and I'm so glad I finally got to play this masterpiece.
